A fellow called Anthony Colangelo who I've never heard mentioned in any serious Media circles writes a story to fuel the Melbourne based readers desires to snare an Adelaide player with nary a mention of the source of his allegations.........take with a grain of salt.
He's just regurgitating. There was an article a while ago that stated the same thing (no sources in that one either).

100% false. No way the club would initially offer Lever less than Milera, unless they already knew he was likely leaving.

if we get two 1sts 2017, 2018 for a proven 3rd Tall interceptor it should be party time at the Crows......I seriously doubt that will happen
Top 40 AA 21 year old who is being paid a massive contract, its fair to say they rate him very highly, irrespective of the role he plays.

UNCONTRACTED Top 40 AA 21 yr old
Going home to Victoria where there are a plethora of clubs who have money to burn and who have picks before Melbourne.

But you seem to flip fopping between positions, is it talent, position or contract that won't see us get a very good trade?

Past history tells us players very rarely don't get to the club of their wishes & Lever is Uncontracted. Don't see him standing out for a year like Cam McCarthy and it would be a very brave club to take a player that doesn't want to be there. Not a need at Carlton.

North Essendon Saints Collingwood all have the cash and a need.

Melbourne want him badly, that's why they are giving him big money, they won't want to not get him.

They also all have list management and I get the feel Melbourne already have his signiture......unofficially of course.

There is an air of certainty on that in the Vic Media surely you get that vibe?

Yes but they haven't got him without a trade

Lets just give him away for free shall we?

Well not only is what you say extreme, but has no basis in reality seeing we have no real control of where either Melbourne/Collingwood finish next season.

UNCONTRACTED Top 40 AA 21 yr old
Who cares if he's contracted or uncontracted. If he's contracted the only time you would trade him is if he was over rated. AFL has to go back to the players worth as its too easy for 10 Vic clubs to keep pecking at interstate clubs for Vic players to come home

There are suggestions he along with Watts may be available.....I've liked him ever since seeing at U18 level......top end talent that hasn't quite been realised yet. He's one I'd take the gamble on to come on in leaps and bounds....would be a steal if he meets his potential.

Would take Salem as well as a first rounder. He is at the age and experience where he could make huge strides in his development. Really impressed with Salem's ball use early this year and think he would be a great replacement for Smith. After a year he would then take Mackay's spot.

If we got Gibbs for our 2017 1st and 2nd and added Salem and Melbourne's 2018 first for Lever then I think we will be on track for top 4 again. Add Edwards and upgrade Keath and Hugh this year and thats a good off season. Then hope that Melbourne go backwards and we could end up with a top 6-10 pick and our own 2018 first rounder next year.

I dont want Lever to go, but the excitement of Salem and Gibbs would help me forget him pretty quickly.

What does next year have to do with anything?

We want picks now.

Given how strong the 2018 draft is supposed to be, where would Lever sit in knowing how good he is?

I wouldn't drink the next year is awesome koolaid that the draft bunnies peddle most years too soon.

it's a way of talking about their great knowledge of draftees, without the scrutiny. always next year.

2018 draft has a few top-end SA players projected to go early. Get one of those and the go home factor is no longer a worry. However, unless we have a top 6 pick to play with it's doubtful we'd get one of them.

I've heard next years draft is so strong and deep that teams are expected to clear their whole playing lists and just draft in a new team...

Sounds like that's what we should be doing. Personally, in 12-14 years of draft watching, I've seen that many young South Australians talked up as superstars 6-12-18 months out from their draft only to become flops or only average players, that unlike most, Im certainly not get too excited re Rankine or next years draft as a whole. I think there was an 8 year patch there that every 2nd draft was billed as a super draft 12 months out, only to have people back away from that statement as it gets closer to the date.

Just from a South Australian POV, I would look at Sellar, Kennedy, Toumpas Trengove, Day, Aish, Grigg, J Scharenburg... Big names from well before they were drafted, who were drafted high, only to flop. Then you have Gibbs who was going to be a once in a generation type midfielder, become a decent bit not superstar.

As much as I hate to quote Vader, there's far too much "shiny toyitis" in the recruiting world.

Now it's all well and good to get excited about draftees, but talking about guys >12months out from their drafts as potential superstars and must gets, I'm very wary. There's a lot of water to go under the bridge.

Did you see Lukosius debut yesterday for the eagles in the prelim final?

Except Geelong, who are trading out their first for Michael Tuck, Dustin Fletcher and Boomer Harvey, as they felt that those players would help them top-up their list for a premiership tilt.

EDIT : UNCONTRACTED
There would be a second going back if it was two firsts.
And he is worth it. There is no KPD in this draft halfway as good as him.

Works both ways.
Bryce Gibbs is a go-home potential recruit.

And there have been others
  • Dayne Beams
  • Cam McCarthy
  • Sharrod Wellingham
  • Brad Ebert
Not saying I like it but the FA era will always result in this happening.

Nope, but I saw plenty of those above whom I mentioned, every bit looked like being superstars at the next level. Not saying these guys won't be, just I wouldn't be getting too excited just yet and I certainly wouldn't be selling the farm for picks in next years draft. Recruitings a tough game and there is no such thing as a sure bet.
