Finally, a flag for a club that hasn't ever bottomed out?

When did the Swans bottom out? Also you can't say 1993 as that was so long ago it is not remotely relevant to the modern Swans list.

Didn't bottom out but you significant advantages unavailable to other teams.
Does OP have to put an an asterisk in his comment

*and hasn't had a massive leg up from the AFL

C'mon, what club would even have to entertain bottoming out if it had a 10% cap advantage over the rest of the comp?

Answer: No club

Sydney are not relevant to the purposes of this thread.

If you search for it every team would have an asterisk.

Yeah and I'm not saying the Sydney premiership isn't legit.

But when it comes to discussing list management you guys are irrelevant because the COLA meant that you weren't operation under the same rules as the VIC, SA and WA clubs. Adelaide did so they are a very good example of an alternative strategy that those other VIC, SA and WA clubs could have followed.

Well technically Milera was pick 9 if you don't throw the academy bids into the draft order.
So he was the ninth best player aside from those two extra higher quality players taken ahead of him

Your concessions are designed precisely to stop you from bottoming out, which is why you’ve made finals more often than any other club since you were granted them.

In the past twenty years you’ve poached the two greatest forwards of their generation, when most other clubs have spent decades scrounging around trying to find one half as good.

Don’t pretend you’re working under the same rules.

People don't come on this forum to find 5 threads with the same idiots bitching and moaning.

Like you've been doing all morning in threads? :$

What years were you embarrassing? And what selections did you have?
2011/12 we won only 8 games in 2 seasons.
In 2011 we lost in successive games to Hawthorn and Collingwood by a combined 303 points. Lost 6 other games by more than 10 goals.
Got picks 6 and 7.
Mind you we did pretty well picking up Chad Wingard and Ollie Wines with those 2 picks.
Anyway this thread is about the Crows ability to perform without high draft picks (penalised traded or otherwise) which is a massive achievement

Why do people mention all these players the Crows lost, apart from Tippett (such a big lose there) they didn't leave for nothing.
Only players that have left the club fit the narrative.
Players who have joined the club don't.

People on bigfooty put waay too much weight on high picks imo... The way everyone talks, everyone picked from pick 1-5 is destined to be a star and everyone above pick 10 will only ever be average.

There is definitely a much higher percentage in 'hits' for top 10 picks though. It goes down steadily with every 10 picks (i.e. 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 etc). Of course there are stars anywhere in the draft because it's not an exact science but the % hit is higher in the top 10 (and I think from memory the 1-5 split is higher than the 6-10 too.)

Richmond is very much the same since 2013. 3 years of finals, missed out in 2016, then back in 2017 and hosting a home preliminary final. Their core group has always been solid, they've just added and deleted as required.
you're using richmond as an example of a team that's 'not bottoming-out'?

Probably never bottomed out but definitely given a massive leg up from father son picks which ultimately led to the rule being changed.
The same Father-Son Rule that was applicable to all other clubs????? This fallacy has been done to death on BF, but our FS Selections are only champions in hindsight! None of them, except for Hawkins, were ever going to be high draft picks. And based on last night, not sure how much of an advantage Hawkins has been to us! The fact that that Ablett and Scarlett became so good for us was attributable to development and luck, not through Geelong taking advantage of an unfair rule that favoured them specifically!

You benefited hugely that you could pick up these players so late in the draft and keep your early picks for other players, it's a double up effect. Don't get shitty, I'm not accusing Geelong of cheating but the rules were changed because of the massive advantage that you got.
Enjoy your day, mine is f***ing fantastic.
;)

Good on you for enjoying your day. I have had my fair share of that in 2007, 2009 and 2011. Hell, we even had a similar sort of day last week. Means nothing if you don't win next week though!

Anyways, enjoy your Saturday, by all means. It is a great day up here in Cooma.....now to hopefully watch the Giants beat the Tigers!
