Won't matter Bris and McGC will draft them anyway.

Brisbane in particular, but both Qld clubs you would think, would be gun shy.

I'm in two minds about this. It feels very much like a form of draft tampering, but on the other, if honest, it helps clubs not waste their investment.

Agreed, though it doesn't mean it isn't also helpful for clubs to know they may not want to stay.

That said, if it's words being put in their mouths by, say Carlton, to ensure they slip.

It's like third party payments outside the cap. Rarely policed and in fact, dare I say it, encouraged in certain cases.

Gold Coast are a lot more interesting as they may then be tempted to trade down. I mentioned it earlier, but if Gold Coast are confident that Carlton won't take the player that they're after, then I imagine it wouldn't cost us much to move up and take the BFNAAK Dow.

If Brisbane team continue the trend of draft Vic country guys, is drafting LDU danger waiting to happen. I guess it's really down to how focused on getting into footy the kid is and isn't worrying about what state they live in. Still something to consider

Brisbane could go with Cerra at #1 in what would be a bit of a shock.
They need a clearance king and may draft to their needs, even if he doesn't provide that service from game 1 - esp if Rocky goes.

Stephenson has a pretty awkward looking action.....has me worried.

Apparently LDU loves surfing more than footy. So wouldn't be surprised if Gold Coast rolled the dice on him, if Brisbane didn't.

LIONS’ PICK 1 HINT

THE race for Pick 1 of the 2017 national draft has been wide open all season — and it’s likely to remain open until draft night.


But a late-season form surge from a top-five prospect has piqued the interest of the Brisbane Lions, who currently hold the first pick in November’s national draft.

Dandenong Stingrays big-bodied midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke has emerged as a live chance to be taken by the Lions at Pick 1.

The initial mail out of Brisbane was that it favoured Western Jets forward-midfielder Cameron Rayner, who surged into Pick 1 favouritism after booting a carnival-high 12 goals for Vic Metro during a dominant national championships campaign for Vic Metro.

But it’s understood that the Lions have also warmed to the idea of using their first draft selection on Davies-Uniacke, who produced an outstanding finals campaign with the Stingrays.

Foxfooty.com.au can also reveal that Lions coach Chris Fagan recently met with Davies-Uniacke, however it’s not uncommon for senior coaches to meet with potential top picks a few months out from the draft.

The Lions’ curiosity intensified after witnessing Davies-Uniacke first-hand when he took on the Geelong Falcons at Simonds Stadium, booting one goal from 22 disposals and six tackles. That performance came a week after his 33-disposal best-on-ground effort against the Eastern Ranges in an elimination final.

The 18-year-old, who has grown up in Rye, would also suit the Lions’ young ‘country boy’ culture that they are trying to develop at the Gabba, with players such as Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry, Alex Witherden and Sam Skinner all joining the Lions from country towns in recent seasons.

It’s been a stunning turnaround by Davies-Uniacke, who had dropped down some draft boards in July after a subpar national carnival for Vic Country.

Davies-Uniacke is a bullocking midfielder in the (Swan) Josh Kennedy mould, whose core strength allows him to feed the ball out of congested situations, while he also has great explosiveness on the outside. He also possesses a long right-foot kick.

As well as Davies-Uniacke and Rayner, Bendigo Pioneers midfielder Paddy Dow is also in the Pick 1 mix, primarily thanks to a massive TAC Cup game against Gippsland that saw him boot 2.2 from 35 disposals and 21 contested possessions.

DAHLHAUS CLONE’S INSANE GRAND FINAL

GRAND finals, especially for players aspiring to win a spot on an AFL club’s list, are all about delivering on the big stage.

Collingwood star Steele Sidebottom did that in 2008 when he booted 10 goals for the Murray Bushrangers in an unforgettable TAC Cup performance.

On Sunday night, Geelong Falcons livewire Gryan Miers produced a Sidebottom-like effort to inspire his side to one of the most thrilling premiership victories in TAC Cup history.

Miers booted seven goals against the Sandringham Dragons, including some stunning snaps and dribbles from the forward pocket, to lead the Falcons to a memorable two-point grand final win at Etihad Stadium.

Dragon Joel Amartey had the chance to win the game after the final siren, but his set-shot kick skewed to the left, sparking scenes of ecstasy for the Falcons and devastation for the Dragons.

Once the excitement had somewhat subdued, Miers — who has been compared to Bulldogs on-baller and ex-Falcon Luke Dahlhaus — was announced as the TAC Cup medallist for best player on the ground, finishing with 7.2 from 16 disposals, nine contested possessions and 12 score involvements.

“All it takes is limited opportunities for Gryan Miers to have an impact,” AFL national football talent manager Mick Ablett told Fox Footy.

“He’s a class act.”

Speaking in the aftermath of Sunday night’s thrilling win, Miers paid tribute to his teammates and Falcons talent manager Michael Turner.

“I just had one of those days. Lucky it just came to me every time,” Miers told Fox Footy.

“It’s unbelievable, we’re like brothers our team — such good camaraderie between us.

“To do Mick Turner proud, he’s been living on this for so long and wanted it so bad.”

While Miers was clearly best on ground, he had ample support from his midfielders.

Sam Walsh — a top five contender for the 2018 draft — won a game-high 30 disposals to go with seven inside 50s and five clearances, while Cassidy Parish — the brother of Essendon’s Darcy Parish — racked up 28 disposals and six clearances.

For the Dragons, Geordie Nagle was immense across half-back with 24 disposals, 10 marks and five rebound 50s as their best four-quarter performer. Charlie Constable (two goals from 23 disposals) was electric in the first half while Kai Owens (three goals and five marks) and Will Walker (two goals from 19 disposals) inspired the Dragons back into the contest in the final term.

Of all the players that graced the Etihad Stadium turf on Sunday night, Sandringham’s Andrew Brayshaw is likely to be the first taken. The brother of Demon Angus Brayshaw was consistent throughout the game, finishing with 21 disposals and laying a game-high 11 tackles. He looms as a top-10 pick.
