Players he's grabbed have been Marchbank, Plowman and Pickett (and a bunch of spuds that we picked up to get the former players we wanted, cheap).

We're looking at Kennedy and Smith this year and they are not 'rejects' either. I'm sure GWS would love to keep both.

GWS are happy to recycle either their rubbish (which you took a lot of) or their mid-tier players, for more first round picks.
They've been given such a free ride that with half decent list management they should theoretically stay competitive forever.

You've got some good guys from there. Marchbank is a beauty. I dont really rate Plowman, but he does a decent job. Picket jury is still out. I notice you skipped quickly over the bunch of spuds you packaged up. I dont know how those other players came cheaper because you took a bunch of spuds with em?

Well I guess lots of them, when they realise that you're asking $100k for 1998 beat up corolla with no hub caps and 250,000km

The seller sets the price, not the buyer. No player, or player manager, in their right mind is going to look at this situation negatively from a crows perspective.

Also I think you'll find that Gibbs wants to come to Adelaide...hence this discussion.

We took the rubbish as a salary dump to get the players we did want for cheap.

Marchbank (pick 6) and Pickett (pick 4) came for a downgrade of pick 15 to a pick of 30 odd.

Plowman (pick 3) and (pick 8) came for 17 and 30 odd.

Those deals are clear wins for us. We had to agree to trade 135 for Palmer, and take a bunch of hacks off them (alowing them to pay Kelly and others and stay in the SC) to get them done so lop sidedly for us.

We have no top 10 picks on our list and are in a GF, how many do you have?

I went off a league average and it would be actually under 50%.
Well if it's so easy to find good players for you then what's the difference between 10 and 17

the point is you were relying on other clubs to make mistakes. Yes they were great picks but both should've already been taken. That's the important thing about high picks. It gives you the best chance of getting things right

Nope, we relied on shrewd knowledge of what we needed, and what the clubs around us needed and/or were targeting.
And a general idea of where the player we wanted was likely to go.

Which is risky because if Richmond had taken him you would've been skewed. The higher the pick the less risk

Future pick's are an option but with a strong 2018 draft do you really want to be trading out of it ?

Salary Dump is only to get rid of rubbis of your list and Smith / Kennedy are not rubbish and wouldnt be on high salary, Teams will be happy to take them with good picks and pay them even more than what the are currently on.

The only player that may be a salary dump is Griffin and i believe he only has 1 year remaining so you may get him but the others you will need good picks

I'm not sure you get what I meant by salary dumps btw, Kennedy/Smith aren't the dumps, the dump is the extra player whose inclusion brings down the overall price of the trade. Palmer, Sumner, ect.

One last thing - it doesn't matter what other teams offer if the targets have chosen Carlton as their destination.

I do know what you mean but the only player that GWS would even consider that would be is Ryan Griffin But what you dont realise is that Griffin only has 1 year left on his deal and he wanted to live in sydney thats why he selected GWS

Our 2nd next year will still be 20-24 in the draft, maybe our 3rd this year as well but it really doesn't matter too much.

Griffin will be pushed out the door to free up half a mil for the kelly contract, when your club doesn't want you and you still want to be paid you go where you are told, he wanted money without attention and he can have that in our VFL side.

So by freeing up some cash for GWS allowing them to hold maybe one more player that would have been squeezed out next year we get Kennedy and Smith for 20 + 39 instead of 20 + 24. Contrary to popular belief we have 3 f/s selections coming in 2018 so our need for picks outside the first round is very limited, our 3rd/4th/5th round picks will select those 3.

Do you think making such an ignorant statement on here will filter through to the clubs and get your club a bargain? You offered more then a first round pick for him last year and you will offer the same again if you want him, we will keep him unless we pick up Rockliff anyway.

Lots of ifs and buts there.

If we're desperate for him, you might be right. But i don't think there is a desperate need for him with the emergence of both crouch brothers.

Last year neither were established and our mids were much less established or set in stone.

Oh yeah, and he's turning 29. He isn't up and coming. He isn't in the middle of his prime. He's nearing the end of his career in 2-3 years, at a point where form tends to taper off.

And again he's not exactly an out and out gun. Even at his best he's never made AA.

So how exactly is a pick 20-25 unreasonable?
