Wait two years. Bookmark this. This one might (Kelly) play out longer than it did this time.
Difference is Kelly's old man isn't a dick.

The way Ned has raved about the club speaks volumes. Unlike most of us he knows how every club operates and he was glowing in his assessment. I do not think there is a culture issue. I think there is an issue of us developing bloody good players who get offered shit loads of coin.

If there as a culture issue Danger would have left in 2012, Sloane would have taken the Saint's money. etc

Gunston was homesick, what can you do?
Davis got offered shirtloads above what we could afford - an 18 gamer offered top dollar long term? I would have goon too (esp given in 2011 we finished 14th and had dumped our coach)
Tippett. Cripes the Sydney money. Farrrk. Glad we didn't pay it
Lever. Cripes the Melbourne money. Faaarrrk. Glad we didn't pay it.

Maybe our list management is poor and we do underpay players. But that is not "culture", and if it is, I don't think it is a bad one.

The club needs to take a fair bit of blame for this lets be honest.......if the first offers are more around the mark players wont go looking elsewhere to start with.
Rubbish. You never start with your best offer. "Around the mark" for Lever would be $800k.

That's way overs.

$650k is fine. -$50k for his last third of the season so $600k all up

Weren’t there rumours earlier in the year that he was about to sign with us for 5 years. Then the big offers came and he started stalling. Our initial offer may have been low, it may even have been insulting, however if he was about to sign on and then got tempted by the big offers, then the insulting offer was hardly the catalyst for him to leave.

Lever already planning his future September holidays?

I'm still shocked that someone has actually nominated to be traded to Melbourne :$
We pay well.

And I seem to remember a star forward nominating us known as Mitch Clark...:)

Remember when Griffen walked out on the Dogs, so they went and offered ridiculous money to Boyd and ended up getting him in the trade - maybe we should be doing the same with one of Melbourne’s gun mids...

Are we still going with the “best available” strategy? Muppets.
Apart from Burton which SA boys over the last 4-5 years would have you drafted with our first rounders ?

He seems pretty good, just hear they’ll be looking for a fair bit more next time round.

Now that it out in the open,
I know one thing that is going to Happen,
Lever wants a role in the Media in order to get one he has to be seen as the good guy in this, Leaks which has started will become mainstream painting the Crows as the bad boys in this,
Such as the lowball, walking out of a meeting with Melbourne, Believe there is one in works on how the official treated him coming into play.
Within 2 weeks Lever will have done the right thing and the Crows would be the bad boys, setting up Lever for some media time next year.

The worse thing is a few of our supporters will believe this because the Crows true to their word will not leak to the media.

One Thing I do know the first offer to Lever was not a Lowball for a 3rd year and 3rd tall defender. But to a player and his father who expected the first offer in the range of 500K it was a Lowball offer.

Might not be popular point while we are all fired up

But >250k per year to move home , I can actually understand it

Unfortunately it's the new game

Until the talent pool at U18 level is more evenly spread between the states and not 60-70% Victorian then this will continue to happen

The ONLY saving grace is there are 10 Victorian teams so they all scrounging for the trade targets between themselves

Such an imperfect system , it's farked really

i don't know about this as it always appears from this ten at least one will rise every year with the motivation and sales pitch to have a crack at a top tier out of contract Crow.

I was going to suggest maybe we send over Jake K and keep Jake L, since apparently no-one can tell the difference.

But I think I would rather keep Jake K to be honest

If Pies are involved may work....but I wouldn't do that...Jake of the Kelly variety seems like a club first guy.

No, what im saying is HE believes he is worth $800k. I'm betting they would have seen $600K as an insult too.
