2017 Draft thread

A (semi-realistic) dream draft for me would have us choosing all three of the top Dandenong midfield prospects: LDU at 1, Clark at 15, Bonar at 18. Gives us the right mix of safe picks and risk/reward. You'd figure LDU has a relatively low go home factor since he's country, a surfer and has a house in Brisbane. We had that conversation some time back about how pre-existing relationships could help reduce the go home factor, and perhaps a solid three from the same team can all keep each other interested in staying.

I don't actually think Clark and Bonar will last to our picks though.

I'd be over the moon if we got Clark at 15. More likely I'll be angry when he gets drafted between picks 12 and 14.

Take Gryan Miers at 40 or Zac Bailey if either is still available. State league 3rd tall? We won't do that. You might as well take Jack Payne (KPD) from our academy at 44 or 52.

Miers and Bailey went 23 and 24. I was going to take Payne at 52. 40 and 44 would be used on a Ballenden bid (unless the bid comes in at pick 30 or later). 40 will most likely be Jackson Ross, Ed Richards, maybe Charlie Ballard.

lol that reminds me of me watching lat years draft. After Sydney drafted Florent at 11, I was sure each team between 12 and 16 was going to draft Berry. Every time Gill read out a different name, I muttered a little "c'mon, get there". Then started the same thing after the Bulldogs picked Tim English at 19, praying for Witherden to get to our first second round pick.

Yeah same here, and I was ready to kick the cat if we didn't then actually select them even though they were available!

Remember Berry was rated top 5 after 2015 draft went away with Top prospects to US in early 2016 then had quite a few injuries over 2016 TAC Cup year, think perhaps we remember this and take note who was rated high at start of 2017 year but didn’t get the best of luck over this year

Drafting Darling as a 16 year old would have been an impressive move.

Chose Redden over Beams. Would have been much easier just picking Beams in the first place.

A lot of the pundits were insisting we'd taken Jarrad Redden. A massive glimpse into their incompetence there.

I refuse to view Redden as a bad pick. 129 games for us. There's only two blokes taken after him that I'd prefer (Beams and Hannebery), which speaks fairly well of a pick.

I remember the main uproar on here at the time was not picking Mitch Robinson with that pick. Turns out that time is a circle.

I remember following the draftonline that year and the AFLwebsite had no info on Redden bar club and position. Didnt even have a picture of him. I agreethat Redden was stilla good pick.

We have for the most part been pretty dam goos with our picks, especially with mids. Our problem has been retaining them, there arent many busts though. Our drafting of talls has been pretty pathetic outside of our academy kids though.

Well the woods rated him well enough to draft at 27? In hindsight he would be the number 1 pick. Massive steal and poor judgement by a lot of pro recruiters.

To put it into perspective, the Woods also did not rate him enough to take him with pick 12.
