Yes and no.

Yes, it's sorted, no, because I don't think it was ever a problem to start with. The old man says it's normal for that to happen from time to time. Says it's an old V8 and it likes to be pushed and fed and not coasting for long distance or left idling for too long.

He's no mechanic but.

Would also stall regularly not long after starting, at the first stop sign I run in to at the end of my street. Same thing he reckons. Not enough to warm up before coming to a halt.

That's a float chamber problem, causing stalling when you pull up. And no it's not 'normal' for oil lights to come on from time to time, even for an old Holden, but yeah they do like a good kick in the guts to clear sludge, as idling doesn't pump oil that quickly

It also leaks petrol when refilling, from the breather tubes in the tank, which my mechanic tells me g he's never seen before. Fine when not refilling.

My mechanic worked for Peter Brock so I assume he knows what he's saying.

Aaaand the fuel gauge doesn't work.

Aaaaand it can be very temperamental to start, needing some serious accelerator pedal assistance.

Fuel gauges never worked on old Holdens, well the only ones that worked for me were a couple of HT's I owned

Leak's where? At the tank or the filler end? I think HQ's had a length of 'breather' hose that acted as a condenser for vapors to liquify and run back to the tank, not sure just remember something

Nah was just rusted out, is going to get it rewelded but has to be done carefully to stop the whole roof flexing.

We have a lemon tree that was not looked after. I have to clear ivy and Blackberry and general horror to get to it. It's not in a piss friendly location. Amateurs

This is two thin hoses either side in a U shape coming out of the tank, and also shoots back up out of the cap.

I can't find a diagram on line, but I might have an old manual, it will be a vacuum/atmospheric pressure problem as you fill the tank. Not sure why that mechanic bloke is unsure what it is? Everything is logical

Has to be welded in a pattern. Spot weld the ends first in a diagonal pattern, then the centres and so on. Too much heat and tension in the one spot is what causes flexing
