Article this morning on AFL.com.au saying that Fremantle and Geelong are the keenest on Francis Kinthari from NT. 24 year old small forward, highlights look decent and would be happy to take him as a rookie if he is still there.
Would have to be a late pick as we are only taking hayball as a rookie, he does look like he can play though would be happy for the cats to pick him but there’d have to be some concern over him settling in. If it’s a late pick those players all have risks so parhaps it’s no more of a risk just a different one.

We've been linked to Sambono too. Thankfully it appears we are going to draft at least one small forward. Wonder whether the apparent interest in these two is an indication we are not that keen on Miers?

Or they have concerns over the long term viability of Gregson and McCarthy.

I doubt it. Miers is a 20-35 pick (may even go before our pick after his TAC GF) whereas the other two are borderline 72/rookie picks so i would suspect it's more we want a range of options.

McCartin is tricky because he is only draft eligible by 2 days (its likely the falcons would take him back next year if he isn't drafted) recruiters would be comparing what pick they use on him this year vs what pick they think he would go at next year if he continues his current rate of development.

P.O. Is that a reason Geelong might have some inside running? Draft at 35 (or 53? ) if no one else wants to pull the trigger. Then allow him school time and a few VFL games before hitting AFL full time.

Thanks guys, that's great the AFL should have that as a splash/landing page on their site.

Just a reminder to all that if you are viewing the page on your smartphone on most models you need to turn on the desktop version of your browser to get the full functionality of the page.

This is not official just speculation but AFL draft central have released their list of the 19 players they think have got an invite to the draft (basically the guys who are some chance at top 10 as the AFL wants the whole top 10 on camera-remember this can change cockatoo was rushed there at the last minute when we indicated we would pick him).

Allen
Bonar
Brander
Brayshaw
Cerra
Clarke
Coffield
LDU
Dow
Both Fogarty's
Higgins
Murphy
Naish
Naughton
Rayner
Richards
Shipley
Stephenson

The interesting ones in there are Shipley (i doubt GWS match a bid if it's in round one) and Naish (if he gets bid earlier than expected it will help a good tall fall past Richmond and to us). Murphy clearly a bolter up the order.

Interesting absentees are Hayes Constable O'Brien and Bailey so while if a club goes left field in the teens it may shake things up but otherwise those guys may be there in the 20s.

Not surprised with O'Brien's ommision from that list. Posted earlier last week that I wouldn't be surprised to see him drop. I can see even Wells letting him slide through our picks even if available to us.

O'Brien has his faults but the game is going the way of elite endurance players the fact that he ranks highly for this will see him go earlier than people are predicting.

He would be useful for us although there are others i am keen on.

I'd be happy to see him come to us. His combination of endurance and having a sublime kick is appealing. Looks a touch soft but they can't all be contested bulls. Outside run is a real weakness of ours.

I'm surprised not to see Ling in that group. He's been climbing up a lot of mock drafts. Maybe we're a chance to snag him at 22

I think it's fair to say he won't go top 10-12 but the teens picks are hard to predict as multiple clubs have 2 picks (bulldogs 9 and 16 wce 13 and 21 brisbane 15 and 18 richmond 17 and 20) which often produces tactical selections and 'reach' picks when clubs have 2 picks close together. This year there are extra complicating factors in wce may feel they need to go for kelly at 21 to stop anyone else taking him and we dont know whether ballenden and naish will be bid on in the teens. So those picks could be unpredictable on draft night but i think there's a good chance he will still be on the board at 22.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you to Pure Ownage and all the other draft gurus around here. I dont have Foxtel nor do I get to any Falcons games or anything like that, so I am completely in the dark with the draft prospects. Most of the info I read in here is fantastic and really appreciated by us mere plebs :).
I am astounded at the knowledge you guys have in regards to the drafts and I just thought it deserved acknowledging.

x 2.

I have Fox, but don’t get to games because of work, and wouldn’t know one draftee from another. Hence I’m also very grateful for the contributions you have deservedly commended.

Pure Ownage and Turbocat are top class posters regarding the draft, contracts and our list and we are lucky to have them as Cats fans

I hope not!.....inconsistent and releys on others for possession. (low stats)
What we want really are hard nuts who can play run with but win their own ball as required.
Players with narrow limitations don't deserve our prime picks imo.
We have a habit of wasting our best picks on outside only players who drift in and out of games.

Quality KPP drafted top 25 since 2000

Riewoldt (1)
Kosi (2)
Petrie (23)
Lonergan (23)
Chaplin (15)
Roughead (2)
Franklin (5)
Kennedy (4)
Ryder (7)
Clark (9)
Riewoldt (13)
Kreuzer (1)
Henderson (8)
R Tarrant (15)
Taylor (17)
Rance (18)
Hurley (5)
Davis (10)
Talia (13)
Carlisle (24)
Tom Lynch (11)
Patton (1)
Tomlinson (9)
Plowman (3)
Daniher (10)

and listing any later than that is probably unfair due to development...

So in 14 years of drafting, there are the best (from what i can gather) KPP picks in the National Draft. There's not even 2 a year. I've gone forwards and backs. If we refined it to forwards, there's around 10. Of those ten, Petrie and Riewoldt are the two forwards (that saw in my quick look) drafted between 10-25 that have been decent between 2000-2014.

Now, I could make a list of all the fails drafted between 1-25 in this time for fun. But I'd be here for ever.

Clear enough?

Some of the names on that list... quality KPP? Some are ordinary KPP and some are already at their non drafted club. Are you changing your contention we should look for Mooney and Pods types? Id agree the earlier the pick there should be a higher success rate in KPP..as there should be in all players. The smaller numbers of KPP type players should mean that the most obvious are drafted first.. but Id say the kids are so young that although the obvious are talented , that there are players who are talented and less obvious , maybe with a couple of workable flaws who can later on become more than acceptable.

McGovern Ade was a p43. Why..maybe too short.
McStay (p25) seems someone who has done at least as much as some names on your list.
Brown at 47 , Lobb at 29 , Gunston at 29 , TMcDonald at 53 ...there are examples of talls that come from later in draft that have developed into very good players.

The issue is we have to deal with what we have and what we need. Its been that long since we have had regular early picks .. we use one on Cockatoo but one needs to have several early picks unless you are extremely lucky or proficient.

If we can trade someone in that is a known standard then obviously we should look at that for next year etc,the cost would probably be prohibitive but we should look.. and if there is a player in the 2nd tier somewhere that we would think could do a Pods then sure draft him. but in sync with that I feel we are obligated to add to our list with talent and try to develop from within. Sure there will be churn ..but we may also find a gem for little. Im happy to place it in the hand of Wells and company and if they like someone , id suspect there must be something worthy of our time and effort.
