Footy Prophet mock draft has us with Callum Coleman-Jones at pick 42. Yeah dunno. Can't see both him and Sean Darcy playing in the same squad together, so why spend our 3rd pick in the draft on him. Still keen on Krueger, McCartin or even Worpel (as he was still available at that time...)

Ben Miller in front of them all imo and may be available at 60 the way it's going. McPherson still there too.

Fair call, he's got the attributes to be a great forward/ruck combo. Couldn't have done anything more at the combine

Haselby has no idea. I don’t mind his commentary but I heard him on 6PR (wed or thu) evening whilst driving in peak hour traffic. A Freo caller asked them about their thoughts at 2 & 5. Langdon believed two midfielders were likely. Haselby went on about them picking the best Key Position player which he said was Brander at 5.

I’m not sure where Brander will fall but certainly Naughton has definitely pushed ahead of him into second half of the top 10 and I would guess Brander is more 11-16 range.

Pretty much every combination of those top prospects seems a dream draft. UDL & Brayshaw, Rayner & Dow, Dow & Stephenson, UDL & Dow, Rayner & Fogarty, UDL & Fogarty, Rayner & UDL etc - We might all have preferences but I don't think we can go too wrong. The last time we had two top 5 picks was 1999 and we picked Haselby and Pavlich so the expectations are pretty high :)

Great post again WTGo. Agree with all of it.

Suppose with the Cerra interview like maybe others letting slip their preference we get concerned about their real desire to want to be part of a new club interstate. Thing is, these days, most are still kids in terms of worldly working relationships and expanded boudaries from home etc but they have very educated minds. Just hope the latter gives them confidence to overcome their fears and once they experience the embracing and supportive club they then say it is home.

Thought Tuckers recent interview was superb on Freo's site..."I'm glad to be home" meaning returning to Freo and resuming training. He has made it his home.

A bad record with Harleys so far... jury is out Pearces
Jury is also out with Harleys. We got rid of the Yahama pretending to be a Harley and the other just needed some replacement parts and an oil change. I think 2018 it will be tuned beautifully again.

Although having thought about it he plays more like a Ducati - fast, smooth and classy.

Is the old story is'nt it. If you have a good thought/idea re club needs then back it up with something. Hase backing it up with Brander for 5 seems dumb to me. It's not as if Brander is even close to what Pav was as a young drafted player. Fogarty could be the one (maybe that is who he has in mind) but we would still need a tall support to be with him.

Sadly the story isn’t old. I heard him just last week saying Brander needed be picked by Freo on 6PR.

Old in terms of a school of thought from 6 month’s ago and he has stuck fat with it.

You make a good point with regards Fog. He is one who for me who sits outside the top 5-6 but at his best is right up there and can fill so many positions. I wouldn’t be upset with him at 5 but seems unlikely.

So you went from having;
1 mid + 1 forward/mid (LDU and Fogarty)
to
2 pure mids (LDU and Brayshaw)
but would be happy with
2 forward/mids (Fogarty and Rayner)

How would you feel about Haynes and Brander?

For what my opinion is worth, the forward/mid option is the gutsy move, and as well as Fogarty and Rayner, Stephenson needs to be considered. With a battery of rolling forward/mids we could begin to manufacture a structure that only requires a mug KPF to be a target, compete and get the ball to ground. I am thinking we can do that easily with Cox, Apeness, Strnadica or Taberner. But no harm drafting Kruger or Miller (my preferred).

For quality, a swarming group of Fyfe, Bennell, Walters, Rayner/Stephenson/Fogarty would be a nightmare.
I think they could be decent talls. Not that hulk type of tall forward we are after though. We have the McCarthy, kersten, apeness, tabener that are all similar to brander and I’m guessing you mean Hayes ? I wouldn’t be surprised if we took Naughton at 5 though as he is a w.a boy. Fogarty might not have the hight for the key forward role but he certainly has a hulky type frame and could be a pav type player that can play as a key forward, mid or back.

Lions fan, I come in peace.

I’ve read the last couple of pages. So you guys have no rumour of an inside word from your club?

For what it’s worth, the rumour on our board is.

For a long time it was thought to be a 3 horse race until about a month a go, Dow, LDU and Rayner. Then the Brayshaw talk began when Canole dropped his name when interviewed at the draft combine. (Same time last year Canole mentioned the club was confident McCluggage would be available at pick 3).

Shortly after, a poster dropped the following;

Dow is considered a flight risk as he doesn’t want to move interstate.

The club have concerns over LDU’s drive, and does he want “it” enough.

So it’s down to two, Rayner and Brayshaw.

Rayner’s endurance is the concern, and if this might be genetic. (Personally I’m surprised the club hasn’t had a proper VO2 Max test done).

Brayshaw essentially ticks all the boxes. He’s a professional, high character, leader, not considered a go home kid, and good skills across the board.

Just from a Lions fans perspective Brayshaw isn’t a sexy pick. But more than a few of the itk fans have really started “selling” Brayshaw as the pick in the last two days.

Apparently the club is waiting on Brayshaw to finish his last exam on Monday before talking to the kids one last time.

I heard a very well respected journalist by the name of Kim Hagdorn on the radio yesterday say that you guys are 100% committed to taking Andrew Bradshaw at number 1 and then his younger brother with your first rookie pick.

Apparently another brother lives and studies up there so the Brayshaw family are happy with the decision.

From the outside getting two mid is the answer but in actual fact tucker could increase his minute on field next year together with Langdon and getting more involve in inside mid or small forward to allow the like of Walters ,bennell , s.hill,Neale,Fyfe, Blakely,Mundy able to rotate forward or HB . The two top 5 will play ASAP in AFL but their minute will be limited just like Logue and tucker this year.

Eg having Blakely playing halfback might allow Wilson some minute on the wing to hit some sweet inside 50 for Tab.

There are very few rumours linking Fremantle to Fogarty but I still think he is exactly the type of pick we'll end up making. Although if one of Rayner/UDL/Dow is still available @ #5 that might throw a spanner in the works.

A different look inner midfield could be; Blakely, LDU, Tucker, Fogarty, Neale and with outside Bennell, Hill, Hill, Walters. F&M forward and back.

I think there’s every chance we select Cam Rayner and then one of Dow/LDU/Cerra/Stephenson with pick 5.

My gut feel is Brisbane are probably leaning towards Brayshaw.

Hasleby's motives are more sinister than you'd think. He believes if we recruit two gun mids that he lose the crown as Freo's best mid.

Using 5 on a KPP would be a waste IMO. We have a 200cm athletic forward who will get a good run on games next season (Tabs), Sean Darcy who came out and said he’s working as hard on his forward game as much as his ruck craft to become a more rounded and dangerous player, an Ape who could still be a decent and competent forward and Nads who I think with another preseason (and hopefully add 10+ kg’s this summer) who is already a strong contested mark and decent set shot for goal. We traded out and delisted a lot of midfielders that need replacing; that we’re positioned to get two of the top 5 u18’s all the more reason to get two mids when the top 5 rated kids are all mids or potential mids.

I think it is where pick 42 comes into play in a big way. If they are confident of a good mid at 42 they may stick with kpf Fogarty at 5. Pretty sure he was in the initial mix for pick 5.
