Hawthorn's better second half of the season was entirely due to Burgoyne busting his arse at crucial times in games; and Hodge getting his finger out of his arse after starting the season with all intentions of having a lazy gap year.

Hodge's first half was better than his second, Burgoyne was consistent throughout, however players like Sicily, Howe, Brand, O'Brien and co really warmed into the season or were given pivotal new roles after the break which turned the season around. That's the exciting part, regardless of whether the team made the finals.
