Rumour Sam Newman is about to be sacked by channel 9

Have literally not watched in 5 years. May give it a shot with Eddie returning.

Back in its day it was required viewing because:

Love or hate him Eddie stories (real stories not some sponsorship deal) broke
Sam was a gun 1 on 1 interviewer with the special Guest before going senile/pushing his political agenda no one cares about
Players (Love or hate) showed their true personalities

It was a light hearted look at footy. Need to keep it. Forget Street Talk (picking on the mentally ill) Sams Mail Bag (Boring) Crawf and Billy (Not funny) just get everyone excited for the weekend of footy ahead.

 

[Pessimistic]

The show just needs a revamp, firstly people need to be reminded that it is a footy themed entertainment show based on the old League Teams from the 80's. The teams are already announced well before the Footy Show commences these days, so that isn't essential anymore. They will keep doing that of course, but they must get back to what made the show popular in the first place, forget about the PC police and new millennial footy snobs. With Eddie back on board they can be more structured. Wednesday nights haven't helped them either.

Here's my Top 8 fixes.
1) The time slot change doesn't work, the Footy Show should return to a 9 - 9.30pm start
2) Get Marmalade to return
3) FFS get Street Talk back, if Newman doesn't want to do it then get Crawf or Billy out on the streets
4) Billy's Wheel and involve local clubs
5) More comedy skits, involve players in them.
6) Break up the show with a live act
7) Stop trying to please everyone, footy fans are tribal, both Eddie and Sam have their detractors and suffer the tall poppy syndrome,haters are gonna hate.
8) Eddie must let Sam work unrestricted, let Sam be Sam! .

The Footy Show theme is football, not a football analysis show which many people get confused with. The Footy Show is fine as long as it returns to its acidic best and that means an uncensored Sam Newman. Things have changed considerably since the show first started, it was once the "news" breaker, but with the internet being so immediate we all know the scandalous news sometimes before it's even happened. The show will always have the Eddie and Sam haters, they will be out in force tomorrow.

It is just a little bit tedious with Sam trying to be a very obviously antagonistic personality that doesn't do anything
for the show.

He is probably getting a little tired of it all as well. Don't blame him. He has gone as far as he can go.

He’s getting tired of it...please! he’s gone way beyond his limited capabilities. Credit it to him though, he probably got a 5 x return on the Thailand facelift..

I'm not a huge Sam fan or anything, but its laughable to think that he cares what us plebs think.
The guy has made millions from being himself a lot of the time (although a bit different these days).

Anyone that knows him properly says he's a genuinely decent generous person. Thats good enough for me.

I reckon I watched it near every night for about 4-5 years. I don't know of the ratings, but I wonder if it's just a show that has a use by date with individuals, but not the market as a whole. I'm sure that when I dropped off, they picked someone else up. You don't need to remain relevant with everybody who used to watch your show, you just need to be relevant with enough in every particular week. Again, NFI on their ratings though.
