The show just needs a revamp, firstly people need to be reminded that it is a footy themed entertainment show based on the old League Teams from the 80's. The teams are already announced well before the Footy Show commences these days, so that isn't essential anymore. They will keep doing that of course, but they must get back to what made the show popular in the first place, forget about the PC police and new millennial footy snobs. With Eddie back on board they can be more structured. Wednesday nights haven't helped them either.
Here's my Top 8 fixes.
1) The time slot change doesn't work, the Footy Show should return to a 9 - 9.30pm start
2) Get Marmalade to return
3) FFS get Street Talk back, if Newman doesn't want to do it then get Crawf or Billy out on the streets
4) Billy's Wheel and involve local clubs
5) More comedy skits, involve players in them.
6) Break up the show with a live act
7) Stop trying to please everyone, footy fans are tribal, both Eddie and Sam have their detractors and suffer the tall poppy syndrome,haters are gonna hate.
8) Eddie must let Sam work unrestricted, let Sam be Sam! .

At my work ive seen a number of 65+ collegues retire only to return part-time because they were bored at home and felt like they were waiting to die. I know i would travel the world and blow all of my savings but some people need to have a purpose, and Sam looks like one of those.

I don't think this has received a mention. For all the bagging Hutchy has received, and he's not exactly my cuppa tea, his performance on radio on Saturday morning in response to his sacking was pure, unadulterated, class.

I turned off after about 10 seconds of hutchy and never came back.

Yes, i agree. Some more interviews? Coaches, execs and presidents also? I think we all want to know what's happening. Maybe Eddie can pull those strings?
The show is still relevant IMO as we so often hear how long a season it is and players get depression etc. Well, so do fans! Robert Walls blasts Danger for having some fun with his injury which was all about "media hysteria" more than anything else. Footy needs to lighten up a bit and that's where the Footy Show works. Otherwise we'll be stuck with the "stick in the muds" like Caro!

I dont think it requires strings to be pulled. The format where the hosts talk amongst themselves and have their rants and essentially ignore the player panellists is exactly the show they wanted it to be. Because it was all about them.
It is very easy to actually spend time asking questions of the people you are paying to turn up.
Yes i hear you and i agree, i do remember when Eddie was the host previously he did have more special guests. The journo in him has never quite left him. I'm sure they're nutting all this out during their hiatus. Barrett is too abrasive, he's clutching at straws with a lot of his reports based on rumour and distant hearsay.

Replace the Barrett segment with a chat with an assistant coach (they would all love the chance to self-promote).
Replace the Sam's rant segment with a "fun topic of the week" Street Talk.
Replace the first 20 minutes time waste where the hosts chat amongst themselves with 20 minutes of lengthy chats with the players where they wont be able to just prattle off the 5 second sound byte answers they have been trained to give, and would actually give some insight in to the game.
Have Billy and Shane on every week and let their happy-go-lucky idiocy shine.
I would actually watch that.
One of the reasons I stopped watching was Sam Newman.
Same boring sexist jokes and all round arrogant rude behavior week in week out. It was seriously predictable and boring tv.
Get someone with half a brain and who is funny. Brian Lake would be good.

Why is this thread still active?
Get street talk back on, get Sam, Billy or Crawf to do a segment like the NRL's small talk with kids or a junior club, get Hughesy to spray AFL clubs like he used to, get some more entertainment or good Aussie humour back on the show.

Its ok, but nothing special.
The footy show is comedy, and thats what it's meant for. Anyone watching it to get football news is dumb.
AFL360 is clearly the best coverage of football.
Slobbo is a dick but overall they get good guests. I like hearing the coaches and player speak. They go into a bit more depth than the usual BS answer.
The other night they had Lake and Dal Santo on and they gave a really good insight into defending Nick Riewoldt and how tailored the plans for opposition players were.
