Well yes, I agree that in the eyes of the police/public yes they should be treated similarly (ie. driving ban, applicable fine). But in the context you were making the misguided comparison of within the walls of the football club (ie. complaining about a presumed suspension to De Goey) it is extremely different circumstances.

Carn, Hodge had accepted the role (and accompanied remuneration) of a leader. Whilst DeGoey is a stupid kid in need of a slap on the head, Hodge should have been dragged over the coals. To paint Hodges incident as a silly little mistake is downright stupid. At his age, if he's doing it, he does it often.

What is evident with the Impey and De Goey cases is there is quite obviously a double standard for when a Melb player gets in trouble with the law compared to that of interstate players.

If Collingwood are fair dinkum with him they need to suspended him for at least a month of football considering he should've had 0.00 alcohol in his system while he was driving.

Anything less should be considered a joke.

Damien Hardwick has won flags at three AFL clubs as a player and coach. Who else in AFL history (i.e. since 1990) has achieved such a feat?

Good question - the only names I could think of (Mick Malthouse, Leigh Matthews) had their playing premierships in the VFL days.

Dew.

Who has Mick won flags with? Eagles and Pies as coach - any as a player?

I don't find any of that piss weak at all. I think that's a strong response. He has one drink and he's basically finished as a footballer. It doesn't get any more severe than that outside of sacking him completely. The raft of other things like charity work, employment outside of football etc. is pretty serious action. Given he needs to fill all those requirements to remain contracted, they've laid down the law.

In a yes, In a way no.
He had to miss a minimum amount of football as well for him to appreciate what he currently has on top of all that.

An indefinite suspension is so wishy washy is almost comical for someone who's a repeat offender.

Reporting that he was double the legal limit is misleading - as a P plater the limit is 0.00.

I'd like to know having done what he has done in the past, how he can ever win the trust back of his teammates through 'meaningful change'.

Yeah, that is a strong statement and punishment. Good to see.

He is also punished by, you know the ACTUAL LAW.
Most of us would be gutted if we were punished by law AND work (assuming you don't drive for a living).

How many here would graciously accept a $20 grand fine and community work on top of their drink driving ban?

It roughly translates to "He's fundamentally a flog"

LOL I missed that editorial comment at the end.

Agree, I think Collingwood have done really well here.

Perhaps his next act to demonstrate 'meaningful change' will be to ride his dog home instead.

Barassi player at Melbourne head coach at Carlton and North Melbourne
Matthews player at Hawthorn head coach at Collingwood and Brisbane
Malthouse player at Richmond head coach at West Coast and Collingwood
Hardwick player at Essendon and Port head coach of Richmond

Pretty sure they are the only 4 to do it. But Frank Checker Hughes or Dan Mingoue between wars might have done it.

So Hardwick is the sole 2-as-player 1-as-coach triple premiership holder, and the only person in the AFL era to have 3 across 3 clubs.

Another project for you - SANFL
Fewer clubs so might be none?!

Since the 1987 season expansion only 11 players have won flags with 2 clubs and 5 have been involved in Port's 2004 flag.

Jarman, Pike, Caracella, Wanganeen, Hardwick, Pickett, Ball, Mooney, Dew, Jolly and Burgoyne.

If you look at assistant coaches, which prior to 2000 and full time professionalism of clubs and players you were lucky to have 1 assistant a few have done the treble.

Hardwick goes up to 4 clubs as was assistant at the Hawks for 2008 flag.
John Blakey, 2 as a player at North, then first year 2003 at Brisbane wins a flag goes to Swans in 2006 and is still there, so was involved in 2012 flag.
Dew, 2004 Port and 2008 Hawks as a player and 2012 as an assistant at Sydney
Blake Caracella, Essendon and Brisbane as a player, missed coaching 2010 at Collingwood as was in first year at Geelong after 2007-09 seasons at the pies, but Hardwick signed him up as an assistant at the end of 2016.

Wasn't Hardwick an assistant with Hawthorn for one of their flags as well?

Sorry, you answered my question on my previous post. Hardwick also has the flag as assistant at Hawthorn.

Neil Kerley has 2 and 4 across 3 clubs, although 2 were as a playing coach - West (p/c & c), South (p/c) and Glenelg (c)

Edit: Haydn Bunton Jr is an interesting one - he had 3 flags as captain-coach of Swan Districts and 2 as coach of Subiaco, but he never tasted premiership success with the 4 SANFL clubs he was with as a player and coach.
