I am a primary school teacher year 3 ( 7 and 8 year olds) I don't let children go to the toilet during lessons. Do you think I'm harsh? Would it concern you as a parent?

A little, 7 year olds aren't wise enough to go at certain times and could be busting.

I feel like thats rare at primary school, I believe we were always allowed to go.

Guess it could be a good way to teach them.

I disagree with this sorry.

Regardless of whether they can go during a break or not, going to the toilet to relieve one self is a human right. Kids at that age might find it difficult to hold on.

Even in high schools, I think it should be illegal to refuse a student their right to go to the toilet. Yeah sure, some do it to get out of class, but is it really worth forcing kids to hold it in just on the risk someone might wag? If a kid wags, eventually they will get caught. Other kids shouldn't have to suffer because of that risk.

Accidents can still happen at this age - kids get caught up in the moment and just forget to go when they are having fun. Why do you have an issue with letting them go to the toilet
You let one go they all want to go easier just to say no. Teachers have to hold it.

They get reminders to go at break, too bad if they forget.

That says more about your teaching style than anything else. Kids will only abuse a privilege if they aren’t enjoying the environment they are in.

Not sure how you would repair the damage to esteem if a child should have an accident.

I’m also not sure why you’ve posed the question when you seem so determined to keep the rule in place

I'm a high school teacher and let kids go. I tell them that they have 5 mins. More than that they make it up at lunch time and write the time they leave on the board.

I would expect this type of attitude more from an old school baby boomer type.

Heck, even my grumpy old bitch grade 2 teacher used to let us go to the toilet during class.
I've never had an accident, if they are bouncing up and down then I tell them they go just once and repay the time back at break.

That works for me - that means you get less of a break as well.

They have to repay time back at break because their bladder was full and they were likely in pain?

You are punishing them for a natural bodily function that they cannot help.

I've done it twice. They repay the time because they are missing working time.
