I think it's important to note all Carlton supporters one way or the other are unhappy with the current state of affairs. Emotions range between mild unease to rabid pitchfork gatherings - and everything in between. Patience is seen as too passive by one lot, burning down PP seen as too dramatic by the other. Discussions are be edgy, please don't suggest because more than one person disagrees with you that you are being block attacked. We're all just showing our support in different ways. My way is the best way of course but many others have valid comments as well.

I absolutely agr...

Wait, what?!

Mickey, perhaps also celebrate the wins, rather than only showing yourself when you have an axe to grind, then perhaps people will be more open to your concerns, just sayin

I don't think the team have played good enough football to celebrate this year, so why would I?
Shouldn't have to fabricate it.

Worrying about any of our players leaving for Free Agency is probably the last thing the CFC are worried about right now.
Who are we worried for losing for several years yet?

The blowtorch is on the club and how we handle the tough times will determine just how good or bad we'll be in the future.
My feelings and a little common sense tells me that if the board initiated this program we're going through, they can't just bail on it, on too short a notice and I don't think they will.
Could someone else try coming over the top though? It's possible.

Do the majority of supporters even want this though? It's useful to think about what we could be doing better and where we've gone wrong. From a coaching standpoint, the game plan change from defensive mindset to offensive seems to have created a little confusion amongst the playing group ,leaving some half way between it seems. I never quite got how the kids who weren't even at the club at the beginning of last year were meant to have absorbed what they weren't around to learn. From a list management perspective the Docherty injury in the first days of pre season led to the loading up of O'Shea, Mullett and Shaw. A little too much insurance and not enough quality it seems. From an admin side of things, the Trigg departure was messy, though too early to tell on Liddle as yet. None of this screams the need for major upheaval to me, more about lessons learnt if anything.

Did Einstein really define insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"?

No, the Carlton Football Club did circa 1996 - 2015

Beat me to it. :thumbsu:

For as long as I can remember, Blues fans have been bemoaning that fact that we have never embraced the draft & salary cap in preference to taking ill-fated shortcuts.

We have seen the ever popular 'Messiah Complex' far too often as well as some utterly appalling player selections in the draft due to the fact we had an unprofessional & under-resourced recruiting department.

The end result was a lopsided list (how many HBF'ers ??) and a spiral of diminishing returns.

The moment we decide to bite the bullet and get serious about our work, we have supporters with unrealistic expectations.

I do not like losing, in fact I ****ing hate it but without implementing a 'Scorched Earth' policy, I genuinely was not expecting to see another flag in my lifetime after being spoilt with 8 in 27-years. In fact I could've seen us becoming another St. Blunda, a club that virtually makes up the numbers with the occasional 'streak' of good onfield performance.

We have sat by idle and watched other clubs zip past us with monotonous ease, they have also dropped down to our level but dug their way back out as well.

The line has finally been drawn in the sand at Carlton, we are doing it properly for the first time ever in this new era of professional football. Whilst people can question what is going on right now, I hope they will be man enough to apologise when it all falls into place in a couple of years.

kiss me, you crazy Bedouin........

Sensible post that echoes precisely what I am thinking. Too many getting ahead of themselves, just as many thinking it is do or die.

We all hope this rebuild is the right path, and surely we can all acknowledge that there are some troubling signs that in reality outweigh the positive ones at the present time, due to a number of factors.

But were those troubling signs completely unexpected?
I was prepared for them, personally, taking into account the state of the list and the transactions made over summer.

I'm actually enjoying the positive signs. Zac Fisher is looking like a bona fide AFL midfielder at 19 years old, gathering 27 and 28 possessions consecutively, with plenty of contested possessions and clearances within. Dow is calibrating to the level and picking up mid-teens possessions pretty consistently (mostly contested too) at 18 and playing with a level of mental and physical strength I haven't seen in a Carlton midfielder since Cripps.

A pair of 12-year midfielders emerging as we speak.

Huh? ****** if I know if I said anything about that. I remember being happy to finally get one against them though... Not sure I see where you are coming from.

It's coming from the same place as my first post to you, show your face and celebrate a win, rather than just appearing when we lose, then people will welcome your concerns

Im confident we'll play finals in 2019. Need to fix the midfield first, but this is quicker done than developing key forwards and backs. We have the tall timber front and back developing nicely for the first time in... well... ****. Ever? If Curnow and McKay continue to hit their straps, Doc comes back and leads the back 6, we'll be laughing.

Just need to get some A grade midfielders at the end of the year. Our future aint as bleak as some are making out.
fair call - I don't think the people rattling their rosaries are actually seeing a future - but their vision is clouded by current failures......

Not completely unexpected, but disheartening all the same.
I look forward to a time where we can celebrate a team performance over individuals. I'm a huge fan of Fish, have some question marks over Dow's disposal but he obviously will be afforded a lot more time.

It's not always what supporters want but for where ego can take you.
If chinks show up, as they're doing so now, it's not hard to understand that someone may feel they have an opening available to them to kick the door down.

The problem for them now would be that Chris Judd is on the board and as someone put to me sagely; He's now the boards firewall.
It won't be easy to get around the JJ wall (JJ = Judd & Jenkins) unless one sold them something worth buying. There will always be someone, somewhere that thinks they have a solution to a problem. Investing the resources to fight the big fight, is something different, though.

Charlie's putting up the numbers of a 150 game CHF.

Every game Harry's played in the seniors he's looked like he 'has it'. Compare that to some stuff we've seen from Boyd, McCartin (not to pot them unduly) etc.

Everyone wants team success, it doesn't really need to be stated. We need to point out the little wins along the way to keep us sane and remember things aren't ALL as bad as they appear.

Lolwut. I was at the Hawthorn game celebrating, am I meant to provide a time stamped photo or something? I've hardly posted on this board this year other than lamenting JWs form and this business...

The solution from the Tom Elliot's of this world seems to reside largely in the quick fix, the answer given in Triggs survey as what the supporter base was sick to death of. A return to cash splashing and surrender of draft picks as a consequence. I understand some wish to return to this but I'm not sure it represents anything resembling a majority.

SOS and Bolton are copping a lot of flack right now, but theres wisdom in how theyve gone about it. Our last rebuild circa 2005-2008 was just fixing the midfield with the hope that our forward lasted (it didnt. Thanks Fev), and that our backline was good enough (it wasnt. No offense Jameson).

That midfield of Judd, Murphy in ripping form, and Gibbs being pretty alright and Kreuzer uninjured was enough to paper over the cracks in our list for the most part. We (Wayne ****ing Hughes) just figured our key position stocks would sort themselves out and just kept drafting flankers.

We now have ample depth in the backline and the forward line is coming together. We need a midfield that can decrease the supply to the former and increase supply to the latter.

We're not that far off. But it sure ****ing seems like it at the moment.

Mate seriously stop feigning innocence. You are yet another poster that only shows themselves after a loss, yet NOT ONE post when we had our last win, zero, nada.

But go right ahead and express your concerns about the path we are taking

No but please list them

Given SOS's objective in bottoming out the TPP in the past two years whilst getting games into the youth, we're in a position to have our cake and eat it.
It would be a huge mistake to simply splash money on 'hero' players just to satisfy some, without having open eyes to the draft.
It's really a case of biting the bullet now for the club as a whole, regardless of what external influences and forces come about.

I don’t understand this unrelenting faith in the wisdom of Chris Judd. The most obvious shortcoming is witnessed in choosing a trade to us rather than Collingwood. He chose money over a premiership. I guess maybe money was more important (you’d have to ask him), but given he’s always talked about success you’d have to assume it was a poor strategic choice. If he’s got one of the biggest decisions in his life wrong, what might he get wrong while sitting on our Board. Not saying he’s incapable of making good decisions, but on exposed form, he’s not infallible.

Seriously?

He chose Carlton who had 3x number 1 picks, Fevola, Scotland, Stevens, Betts, Walker, Waite and some other handy talented senior players and a lot of other untried and tested young guns.

I actually think he made a very good choice, not his fault our recruitment ballsed it up draft after draft between 2008 and 2015
