Autopsy Rd 9 Belted by a ton ... few positives

Last week the club, coach & players were in fine shape & everyone was excited about the future. One week later and the gates of hell have opened & are awaiting our imminent arrival.

FFS, can we have some perspective & consistency in opinions around here ??

We have not played one game yet this year with our absolute best line-up on the park whilst today we had a virtual novice forward-line on display.

The Demons are at least three years ahead of us in the rebuild & development stakes so just take from todays game what we should be like in three years time.
Well said.

It’s also worth remembering that the Demons are basically injury free, which is immensely helpful. The contrast with us is almost as stark as it gets

when I saw the final side I was really worried about today. worst side I can remember and so many poor players and kids. although disappointing IMO not that unexpected. Been saying it all year we will have good days and bad. This is the toughest year of a rebuild. We will still wins games and have lots of positives like last week. people just like to jump on the moment and not look at the bigger picture

While I agree it was one of the worst sides we've put out in a long time, there were only 2 changes to last week.

Against the Bombers, the tackling pressure was huge, sure Ed was a big part of that, but the others played their part in it as well. Today not the case. That's why I think they could've given more than what they did.

Look at the first quarter, we played with intensity and the right attitude and while we were lucky to only go in 3 points down, it was a lot closer contest around the ground compared to the remaining 3 quarters.

I doubt people lose sight of the bigger picture over a few bad losses, of course you'll get the unrealistic ones but they're just the fair weather supporters.

Anyone else feel as though the autopsy thread should be locked for 24 hours after losses in general. I understand having high emotions after these games but sometimes I think more harm comes from immediate responses.
venters gotta vent - gold fossickers gotta fossick...........

If you want to grind your teeth ad-nauseum over it then knock yourself out.

I'll keep some perspective about where we have come from and what we are trying to achieve whilst understanding & accepting that there are going to be some hiccups along way with a young group.

Last week we defeated the Bombres which resulted in them being looked at as in a trench with no way out. Yesterday they rolled the Cats against all expectation.
I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one. :D

Graham was nowhere near best on. Don't worry about his possessions, he was going at 57% efficiency with a lot of turn overs when delivering inside 50 gave our forwards no chance. The worst part was those inside 50 kicks were out wide so the Dees could waltz out the fat side and rebound out with ease and hurt us.

Kerridge I didn't think was too bad, he did make his share of mistakes too though but unless your name is Patrick Cripps they all made a lot of mistakes today.

As for Fish, SPS, Dow and LOB turning it over under pressure, to me it was obvious as to why. The Melbourne mids were far more established in their AFL career. Their bigger bodies really made it difficult for those kids to have an impact. We need to pump a few preseasons into these kids before we see them come good and stand up to that sort of pressure.

Graham was far more contested today. Definitely one of our best in general play. If you are going to judge based on forward entries, you'd have to point at the whole team.

All those teams had players they could have added. As I responded to Soapy, being a bit pedantic but teams will never have their best squad out there. In most cases it's not a huge difference if at all. Gives opportunity to hungry fringe players or new players that bring extra enthusiasm and a different dynamic.
Yeah agree. Except normally you’d be hopin that Sps dow types are the hungry fringe players. Not players we are relying on :/.

If we have only 2-3 wins this year Bolton won't be the carlton coach in 2019. Club is going backwards!
30 efforts in a decade - don't tell me - blah blah sack pagan, ratts, malthouse blah blah?

Look at kedges stats!!!He was rated equal 3rd in the foxtel player rankings for us!!

With all due respect , stats sheets are of most value in a restroom.
Goddard and his like rack em up week after week.
My eyes told me today that Dow , SPS , Fisher and O'Brien although still so young and physically underdeveloped , spent more time at the coalface than the chiseled Kerridge who routinely fumbles , makes bad decisions and inevitably turns the ball over generally in open space.

a pump that can do it all in 6 days would be nice

What's going on with Weitering, anyone??
Aside from developing some aspects of his game, recovering from an injury, regaining confidence and settling in defence nothing to be concerned about.

Why you asking. You always claim to have the best inside knowledge. Would’ve thought you’d be telling us.

What's going on with Weitering, anyone??
I reckon Weitering is questioning whether he wants to be a career AFL footballer. Just coz someone is tops in the less physical underage competition it doesn’t follow that they are going to enjoy and be effective in the big boys league. Just an instinctual assessment. Hope I’m wrong.

Yes he was, but I'd argue what's the point of winning a contested possession, only to turn it over going inside 50? He had the most entries (based on what I can recall) and not sure how many were effective but I doubt many were. I'd rate his game as decent but like I said definitely nowhere near Cripps.

I only saw bits of the match today. Murphs seemed down in first half but got some touches in second half. How was his leadership?
Threw himself at everything. Tackles as hard as he could. Shouldn’t have played but he certainly didn’t try to just get through the game. Gutsy effort.

9 contested possessions, 6 tackles and 2 clangers says different. Thought he was good today
he goes into packs fine but just doesn't come out with it or dish it out enough - liked his endeavour today - would like more creativity and impact

It’s hard to stomach just how awful we are.

Melbourne are a rising side don’t get me wrong. But they’re not a side your expect to get belted by so much against.

We desperately need Curnow and/or Casboult to be fit next week. Our ball use was atrocious yes, but we were also really screaming out for Curnow or Casboult to clunk some marks and make things a bit easier.

This season has only made me think even worse of our situation. We are years off being good. Our players do not have the size and skills to beat teams on a consistent basis. Just flat out depressing.
Consider this.
First, Melbourne are further advanced than us - List wise.

Second, they have hardly any injuries. We have more than half of our best 22 out injured.
