Thats rubbish treatment towards existing teams that lost 3-4 good players each.

Way to turn more people away.
At the very least compensation for existing clubs should have been one round earlier.

And somehow we don't get the 2nd pick each round

Instead stuck with the last pick each round, rules on the run

No you got the last and Geelong get the second last. Geelong got four high picks to compensate them for not raiding 17 players during the free-hit open season exclusively for the expansion teams

Of course its "on the run" how the f2ck else are they meant to do it?

Uh no Geelong have pick 1, ourfirst pick is pick 12

Our pick should be pick 2

ah, no they are compensation picks, have another look at the general order

you might be late to this so you are unaware of the quality of the players you've signed from other clubs. If you think that you should be loading the first or second best kid in the country on top of that you are dreaming

The sense of entitlement is breathtaking. Fair enough you've done some long term work with the relationship with Melbourne Uni which you've parlayed into a large creaming of some of the best players in the comp. But be greatful you got a team ahead of other clubs rather than whinging about a pragmatic decision in a competition that has been necessary managed through a sequence of pragmatic decisions

We put in the work early with MUFC we get the players wanting to come to us fair and square

Regardless of who we get both the new clubs should have the first 2 picks each round

None of this penalising competence bs

What? You mean don't pursue a competitive balanced league? A league in the third freakin year of operation because on of the expansion clubs essentially absorbed one of the two super clubs from the old state league?

You've got more than what you should have got already. They could have put a much larger cap on the numbers you could have signed in your free-hit trade period. They got that wrong and now have made a modest adjustment to the draft order that go nowhere near compensating the clubs.

Next years expansion teams will no doubt find their free agency signing period is a lot more constrained because of what North's done.

This is the confusing one. I suspect it's because the Lions will get all the best Queenslanders anyway
People complain about the bizarre way the AFL makes it up as it goes along, but can anyone think of a realistic way to compensate Brisbane? Its about all they can do.

the point im making is we outsmarted clubs, got our players

the draft picks should be set in stone before this.

Its based on ladder position, and when new clubs come in they get the first picks in the first year then from there on its ladder position based in the following years

competitive balance can come after we actually play a game in teh following drafts, we dont even know how we will go next year

And Brisbane don’t get anything
While it's as good as nothing you get an extra rookie, which if the 2018 rules remain you won't be able to play unless there's an injury. An extra senior list spot would have meant something, even a compo pick may have helped if BL could entice a Vic north.

I'm not sure though how the AFL are meant to do it but to "make it up on the run"? They have little or no reference point for most of the decisions they have made because they don't exist

Anyway, they have clearly ended up with an overly favourable "free signing" arrangement for the expansion clubs, particularly as it played out for North. Good for north but save is the whining about not getting the best of the draft as well

No. That's why you haven't got the first picks. The AFL reserved the right to make a decision on draft order until after what is the first expansion team signing period. They did that and you've got a what you deserve

maybe do so in the following draft after you know we actually play a game

our draft order has been affected and we havent even had a training session. You dont handicap preemptively

That would have been one of the other alternatives, however under that system NM and Geel likely would have been given extra picks to trade for players and the free signing period would have faced much greater restrictions. Even just on account of greater transparency doing it this way would have been the better option.

Been a big supporter of AFLW, attending games and multiple memberships this year. 3rd round compensation for 3 premiership players, including the league b&f. AFL and AFLW can get fcuked - I won’t donate another red cent, will support local women’s league in Ballarat only. Any mention of or viewing of AFLW in our house is now banned permanently.

Also looking forward to North AFLW confirming the well publicised stats regarding knee structures in female athletes on a grand scale.

Campaigners get a massive free hit and have the temerity to whinge about draft order, snivelling goat-$&@%ers.

Enjoy watching the north powerhouse go undefeated

Fact is we outsmarted all, put in the work with MUFC years ahead of aflw

So much so the afl have out of nowhere handicapped us before a ball has been bounced in training or games

Be thankful we didn't take ellie Blackburn also who plays with MUFC
