WAFL 2019
What if... national expansion never happened? What if it was the Fremantle Derby that could sell out the Optus Stadium in 2019? What if the West Coast Eagles or the Fremantle Dockers never entered the VFL/AFL? What if State of Origin still existed and was a battle to see which state, and subsequent league, was truly superior?
It’s 2019, and the WAFL is still the premier competition in the state, starring local stars such as Josh Kennedy, Nat Fyfe, Lance Franklin, Alex Rance and more!
In this portfolio, each WAFL team’s home and clash guernseys will be presented, as well as a look back at what the club wore in 1999, as well as a look at each of the clubs and their subsequent stories.
Welcome to the West.
God bless you Freight Train

Grandsun I said on the 2019 jumper ideas thread after someone thought Freight Train's gradient anchor design was legit, we need to start ******* with people.
It is time to do your duty.
FOR THEREPUBLICFJGD BOARD!
I think Silent Alarm was responsible for that...
I say we start ******* with them
I think Silent Alarm was responsible for that...
This is very tidy
Be chuffed that people think it's legitnah as in silent alarm took my Freo design and posted it on his Facebook page.
not sure if I’m sad about a lack of credit, or chuffed that people think it’s legit due to the lack of credit.
Any WAFL logo for this or the future should be based on the classic swan design. So smart. It's a swan, holding a footy, in a W, in state colours!

The club logos of the time where the W outline was coloured and the logo and wordmark inside was interesting too, real point of difference to the VFL template. In fact, the separate state leagues all had interesting approaches to uniform club crests: shields for the VFL, the W for the WAFL, and the roundels in the SANFL.
FWIW my only portfolio on here was a 'Commonwealth Premiership' in which Western Australia was its own commonwealth country, with its own league. Reckon it was 2011.
You’ve probably seen it, but there is a 1983 version of this that’s being made by someone*. I’ll quote the OP over to here because I can’t hyperlink on my iPad.VFL-WAFL-SANFL merger - 1999?
*Shameless plugSeeing as it's about 1:00 am when this goes up, yesterday I was thinking about my 1983 portfolio that I began in late 2016 (I can hardly believe it's been that long) and I decided to give it a whirl again. So while I listened to 6ix9ine and tried to let that coffee I had 8 hours ago keep me up I designed and designed and designed until I got 12 teams done. So let's get into the story, shall we?
In 1982 South Melbourne moved to Sydney, giving the VFL the upper hand over the SANFL and WAFL. Shortly after South moved North, the CEO of the SANFL flew as quickly as he could to Western Australia and met with the WAFL CEO. They realised that if they didn't take further action, either their leagues would fade into oblivion or their clubs would defect to the VFL at some point. So they devised a proposal that they thought would be fair to the interests of each league. Their plan? A "super league" consisting of all top-level teams in Australia. Basically, every team in the VFL, SANFL and WAFL was in. Each league held meetings with club presidents. In Victoria clubs voted 8-4, in South Australia, it was 5-5 and in Western Australia, the vote was 7-1. These margins were enough for this proposal to be put forward to the ANFC (Australian National Football Council) and when ANFC President Allen Aylett saw this proposal he was amazed by the amount of forward thinking put forward by the leagues. However, Aylett wasn't completely satisfied. One of the ANFC's main functions was to develop and promote the game in markets where rugby football pre-dominated, including Sydney, country New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT. Aylett wanted expansion teams in these areas, and conceded that while they could not possibly found enough teams within 1 year, it was now a pre-requisite that the new league fill this quota. With a proposal of 36 the league would be split into 3 divisions of 12 and be called the AFL. I'm tired, so for now I'll leave you guys with an image of the 1983 Home jumpers. Clash jumper will come later, believe me. I'll upload them all separately soon, and when every design is done I'll make logosfor each team, and eventually there will be future updates but like I said, 1983 Home jumpers:

That's a lot of colour!
Here is the original thread for reference: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/1983-alternate-history.1152172/
It's clear to see I've improved in designing since then so it would be wrong to mix new designs with those old ones.
Would like to see that logo incorporated on a preseason jumper perhaps?View attachment 494945
Thirty years later: It always comes back to tradition, one way or another. After years of experimenting with different designs, bounding roos, side roos, chevrons, etc etc., the club went back to their North Melbourne roots with a simple striped design, whilst retaining orange as a tertiary colour on the collar and cuffs.

This is one of the best threads I have ever seen on this board.
10/10 would read and like again.
