Docklands Stadium (Marvel Stadium) - Discussion

We are lesser for having it forced on us and accepted by the masses.
We weren't worth a pinch of s**t to begin with if our moral fibre, or whatever you're talking about, is dictated by stadia quality.

Serious question, if Docklands was somewhere else in the world, anywhere else, is anyone buying a ticket to go there as a tourist destination? I know I’m not?
Probably not on its own -but a revamped, more interesting & varied Docklands, ALSO taking advantage of the water vistas, enhances the "Melbourne Tourism Experience".

MANY other cities take full foreign tourism (& local visitor) advantage of their water vistas -& heavily promote them. It will simply be another "selling point" for Melb., it will probably encourage tourists from overseas & interstate to stay longer in Vic.

MCG can only support businesses when there is an event on[Yes] and Docklands can only support businesses when there is an event on.[No] Thanks to the office buildings there is a hell of a lot more at Docklands[Yes] than there is at the MCG notwithstanding it is pretty sterile. But everything new is sterile - chadstone, docklands, even fed square is pretty hard.
Docklands is now actually a part of the CBD, & ALL the HUGE no. of people who work, live, & shop there. The MCG is not part of the CBD, it borders it.
When the Docklands area rejuvenation in the 90's was being contemplated, the plan was for Melb. to take advantage of the water proximity & views -as a 365 day pa TOURIST attraction. This has not eventuated after 7pm Mon -Fri, & weekends.

The AFL is pitching to the Govt. to resurrect this goal -by upgrading the outside, harbour side of DS. If the general Docklands area is successful in becoming a tourist attraction, it will be a big WIN for the tourism industry, Docklands' local businesses, & the Vic. taxpayer (who would also benefit since the Govt. still owns much land in the Docklands area -a more successful Docklands increases the value of the Govt's. land). And the AFL, of course.

Absolute joke. The only reason for Disney to do that (given the product basically advertises itself) is the rumours of them acquiring land for a theme park in the west are true

There is a report of the AFL using this to ramp up the 'game day experience'.

You have to wonder if anyone at the AFL actually enjoys the game itself.

What happens when these Marvel movies jump the shark next year? Will just look sad having Marvel plastered all over the stadium for a further seven years. I guess if Disney have the rights they could advertise something else if they deem it necessary. By 2022 it will probably be the Jedi Dome or Frozen Field.

That’s a fair list of stadiums.
You forgot to add Mars Stadium to your list as the dogs have played two afl premiership matches there.
