A depth player? He's 6 games off playing his 200th, and is coming off a 4 year $400k contract this season.

lol I didn't know that. That's quite astounding.

IMO opinion, if the AFL want to continue going down the path of suspending players who knock someone out, then the person who's knocked with concussion must also miss a week minimum. This I feel will stop further cases like this Carlisle v Riewoldt one.

It also shows how far behind the AFL is behind other world sports regarding having these sort of on field tests.

This should be a given. It's a second concussion whilst the first hasn't fully healed that's the most dangerous. All players concussed should be forced to miss the next week.

And all players who are tackled high should be immediately be forced to take go off the ground for a concussion test, with someone else to take the free (the added benefit of this would probably cause a strange drop in the number of high frees Duckwood gets, if someone else is taking them all and he's off the ground for a couple of minutes each time having a test).

I personally am against the concept of promoting gaming in schools. There is plenty of info out there on its potential and actual detrimenal effect on academic studies and physically activity.
Can guarantee you are wrong on this one - in fact the weight of studies show that gaming can be a positive. The key here is it must be in moderation (like most things in life). You can get video game addiction, just like you can get gym/workout addiction - both unhealthy in their own ways.

He's the type of player a bottom 8 club would like to have due to relative consistency, but the type a top 6 would want to upgrade to someone who actually impacts games. However, due to their losing so many premium players on top of draft sanctions for draft tampering/salary cap cheating they've had to focus on core players which is why you still get guys like Mackay, Brown, Ottens etc. as regular best 22.

No, any detrimental effect is as a result of shit parents who don't limit the time their kids spend on gaming. You can make the same argument about detrimental effects in relation to reading and TV. Games are just another way of expressing a story and creating a world.
And football, its a ridiculous thing to have children do, with concussions, knee injuries, breaks etc.

Let’s agree to disagree.

You’re only taking this stance because it’s the Crows though, if it was another team you wouldn’t give two shits. Unless you’re getting ‘gaming’ confused with pokies, or those shitty addictive Candy Crush type pay to play mobile games? That’s not what esports is.

Nah. Unless they draft an absolute superstar with the compensation pick, the further damage that yet another senior high-profile player leaving would do to the fabric of that club outweighs whatever benefits they would get from the compensation.

I would have thought we're already well past that point. They're toxic.

There have been studies on its addictive effect and withdrawn behaviour in individuals and also it is the opposite of encouraging participation in physical sport in the real world for fitness and well being effects.

I've been addicted to Dota 2/Overwatch (eSports) while watching competitive matches. But I still also obsess over sports & play sports, work out at the gym 4-5 days a week. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think esports specifically does imply an addiction. Normal gaming is fine, but esport people do an insane amount of gaming that seems unhealthy to me, and I have the occasional twenty hour LAN game of Empire Earth.

No Ports fan should want to see Sloane go (if their wish is for the Crows to not win a flag).

He chews up cap space, can be tagged out and will command a decent pick.

He IS an excellent player, but they have more to gain by trading with his current injury. Without it him leaving would have been better, with it there's a huge question mark.

Both great points but how about a compromise, a broken Rory Sloane elects to go home to Melbourne and is traded for a 2nd rounder, his value having all but dissipated under the pall of injury.

Seriously has anyone kept count of how many Friday night games Carlton has had this year?
