Don't misunderstand me here Honey-Dripper, I'm a fan of Lloyd's work & would relish the opportunity to have him at the club.

However, the defensive unit is the one area we have loaded up on first & there may be a reticence to go after more defenders when we have other areas that certainly need some attention first.
Honey dripper. Not sure if I should be hungry, offended or tantalised. Not misunderstanding. I get it. We are all looking for answers to a challenging puzzle yet none of us have the insight or resources that a recruiting team has. No issue.

We will also get BSOS and I reckon the 2 x second rounders will be very good players. The one for the Bulldogs could be Pick 22 and from Adelaide around Pick 30. In this draft they are 2 very good picks.

I also have no doubt that SOS will use future picks to bring in a "Big Fish" and/or some more talent like a Lang or Marchbank. Lot to look forward to
Hickmott seems to be doing a bit out west too. Road to the draft talked him up a bit on the weekend. Looking forward to seeing how he goes at the champs and won't cost much.

I guess you might be questioning Levi's value versus playing the kids?

Where I am coming from is Levi ( in my books ) is the best tall forward we have - so play him and let the kids learn how to play around him and hopefully supplant him when they are able to do so.

Also I am only saying this because so many in this thread have been suggesting he is already surplus to requirements - which is difficult for me to understand and therefore agree with based on performance on field.
Especially given his output past year and improved goal kicking. Watch how many he competes with in packs. Smalls at his feet should have a field day. SPS? Garlett? Wright?

We have nothing to lose except salary cap space in going after a RFA and IMO it must happen. Get Guthrie or Gaff, sign up Cripps and Curnow to long term contracts now and go to draft with pick 1-4. Docherty comes back and we are a year older across the board (plus the RFA adding a mature body and head).

Especially after seeing that video of Guthrie swapping jumpers with Judd I just think the idea of Judd calling him for a coffee and the chance to sell him on the clubs future with him on the board will be enough for him to make the move. Hes exactly what we need.
Don't care about the narrative, only whether he can play or not and he seems to struggle to be consistent. Will watch this space with interest but not too excited about Guthrie talk.

Ummmm. Sarcasm meter on low?
I don't rate either. Take 'em both please. And If Barretts on the money ... If Cam leaves then Zac does too.

On Lloyd, I think we could comfortably fit him in the backline without forcing out anyone important.

Lloyd, Marchbank, Plowman
Docherty, Weitering, Williamson

Byrne on the interchange.
Jones or Rowe come in for Byrne if we come up against a side that has a particularly tall forward line, and Willo moves up the ground.

The bigger question is what we'd have to trade for him and whether there would be a more appropriate acquisition we could make for the same price. Mids and athletic medium forwards should be higher on our shopping list.

It would be hard for Daisy to sacrifice 200k this year when he took 2.4million while adding nothing for 4.
Sorry I don’t buy into that.
OK but I will never question a player getting paid. They aren't in the game for long and I believe they should get what they can while they are able. Market forces at play. He got paid when he was a premiership midfielder, as he should, and he took a cut when he wasn't there anymore. No issue. Prolonged his pay day and still contributing nicely though I wish he would spoil more often if he is going to man up down back. He is the one dealing with the panel beaten body for the rest of his life, if he gets paid, good luck to him. We are the suckers for allowing Malthouse to further mortgage our future.
I like the statement he made and by all reports he is good for club culture. Happy to have Thomas on the list.

Agree totally, especially if the youngster is Jack Lukosius, after a season or two he'd run defenders into the ground, has a great work ethic and skill. Levi commanding some attention too would create a functioning, mobile, open and potent forward line at long last.

Explain me - how do we get Wines and Lukosius in the one year???

Not sure what we would need to give up for lloyd. But that backline with doc, williamson and lloyd looks amazing!

Anyone else think Wines is the wrong option for us right now. I rate him a lot as a player. But when you see opposition players stream through the centre on the rebound and we cant stop them as we are carrying a slowish midfield im not sure how Wines can help us too much. If we have gone down teh route of Cripps and Kennedy, that invalidates Wines. We need another Dow (speed type) to offset what we have created with Cripps/Kennedy. SPS is not a speed demon and Fisher can sometimes stop them but due to lack of physical size can miss the tackle too.

Let wines pass as that makes us too slow around the corridor.
Agreed whole heartedly. Speedy pressure blokes who run both ways and finish. I hope WC win the flag this year so a bloke like Gaff scratches that itch and comes back to Vic looking to lead a mid field. Otherwise grow our own kids. Think outside the box and focus energy on preseason athletic development minus the * supplements.

Cripps.
Curnow.
Curnow.
Dow.
Fisher.
Petrevski-Seton.
Weitering.
Marchbank.
Docherty.
McKay.
Williamson.

As I said. The class is there, it's developing. There are others, but these are the ones that, in my view, have shown the most promise so far. That's why we loaded up on early draft picks, to bring in talented young players.

Difficult to attract the high end free agents when you're in our position. We're not that attractive for a 26 or 27yo chasing the flag and money. But if we can cover some list gaps with good AFL role players like Wallis and Guthrie, we would be looking to elevate our profile next season.

Melbourne brought in good role players like Hibberd and Melksham, proved to the competition they were on the edge of a serious finals push, and as a result were able to sell the club to Lever. That's the process for us.

Wallis, Guthrie, Dahlhaus etc are the players to look at this year. Still bring in a Lukosius or Smith via the draft. Then with some more on-field credentials we can go after a Shiel or Kelly at the end of next year to slingshot into finals.
Love everything you said with the exception that I don't believe the players you mention in the list would be rated as A graders by many clubs, even allowing for future growth. Questions about all except Cripps, Curnows and Doc. That makes 4. Love Murphy but I wouldn't put him there either.

I think Marchbank is a lock pending health. The rest have questions though Dow looks the goods.

Reading draft writeups I wonder if Silvagnis could be our version of the Abletts?

All time great dad...shorter older son starts as a forward then moves on ball...taller son stays forward.

obviously jsos will never turn as good as ablett, but one can dream.

No different to the club in general. Impossible to pick one week to next what you are going to get from Geelong. I seem to remember Guthrie always operating at high intensity and has incredible dash and line breaking ability as well as a big body to hit in. Always liked his game and saw him becoming A grade. His injury this year means it could (and looks like it has) create a disparity between what he perceives his value vs the club. I just think one player like that is our missing link.
