No chance Roo gets rid of Bird, won't happen. 2 options

1. Bird is promoted into the newly created and very important role of General Manager Special Sports Science Stuff.

McKay is brought in to fill the lowly and not particularly special role GM of Football Ops

2. Bird remains in the very special and important role of GM Football Ops

McKay is brought in to fill the newly created and not very special role of GM of Stuff related to football that Bird is too important to do.

I feel like there is a Matt Hass promotion missing, but pretty close.

Would Andrew come here for a lower position. Funny as it sounds, he might after 15 years off field at Carlton.

Without trying to look like I am sticking my head in the sand, we should just let this one die off and get on with it.

The media will only continue to keep this flame growing if it continues to push interest. I doubt many fans / players from the opposition really care. There may be some who gloat at this opportunity however, similarly, that only works when interest keeps going.

I am done with it to be honest. Yes we messed up the announcement and yes the whole thing has been a shambles....but they have stopped it now. Yes it should have been handled better.....and I think we all feel that way. But let’s just let this one die so the media lose interest. We still have the mismanagement of our players at an injury level to keep us going for the rest of the year. We also have players like Mackay and Jenkins to keep the momentum going.

I think anyone with a fresh set of eyes is worth having a go at.

Very experienced also.
A better CV than Burton. As for the rest?

I seem to remember Carlton posters having a go at him. I may not remember correctly, and even if I do, they may be wrong.

No point replacing our Burton for another Burton though, just because he's from here.

“I have been here for seven years as an administrator and eleven as a player - the Carlton environment is all I know. I need to experience other environments to enable me to develop further. I am really open-minded to new professional challenges out there within the industry and more broadly in time to come, but I firmly believe that Carlton’s football programs are now in a good position and the Club is on track to get back to sustained success.

Sounds like he wants to try his hand elsewhere, obvious SA connection, but the million dollar question will still remain. Do we have the guts to move Burton on? My money would be on "no".

Let’s build the best football program in Australia ..

Andrew Mckay’s From SA, lets get him

He does have a much better CV than Burton though.

He doesn't have to be moved on as such, even if he should be.

Slot McKay in under him and oversee his failures.

Does he?

He's overseen lots of 'teenth' seasons, 13th, 14th, 16th, 18th. Burton's been here for a GF.

Back him in to respond

Carlton have done many many things wrong in recent times that's for sure, but people will be chasing him.

Exactly. Who the hell decided this was a good idea.
This is one of the most concerning parts. How did we go into the press conference with zero plan and zero idea what was about to unfold. You had to know what the questions were going to be. If you didn't, you are an idiot.
So, who should have been responsible for this? Shuts? Fagan? Anyone?

Brayshaw etc.. are correct.

We had to come out on the front foot. Talk about the CM program, what the intentions were, what their role was, what successes we felt we had, the camp (and hose down rumours by explaining what was actually done) and then mentioned that after reviewing with the playing group and after discussing with CM, we have decided not to continue. Be open and honest, remove the 'false stories', make it sound like it is something tried, reviewed and then moved on from.

It's a very simple plan. You can then open to questions and if you don't want to go in to any more specifics you can refer to the information already provided.

Instead we sent two guys very unprepared into a situation that became hostile very quickly. By sitting like lame ducks, the media saw blood in the water and went after them both. Pyke handled it pretty well. Burton did not.
To go out there and begin by saying your not sure why your there on a Saturday afternoon is just horrible.

There needs to be questions asked about how we are consistently not reading the mood and getting it wrong.

What is obvious is that we are lacking any kind of leadership in the club at all.

Burton needs monitoring. Due diligence was NOT done (no way you hire those guys if you did it). Once the camp issue leaked we needed a proper response, instead months later we put that joke up. Our media strategy was horrible. We had no clear plan.

The whole episode has exposed a large list of issues that need to be fixed.

Interesting observation.

The complete invisibility of Fagan and Chapman is an indictment on their supposed leadership of the club - they are conspicuously absent...

It’s hard to believe anyone in that position would be so arrogant or gutless as not to front up...

Maybe there is something going on in the background?

When you are looking for your next role, the last thing you want is your name linked to this disaster. Smart move by Fagan, but a sh!t move for the club.

Possibly

More likely Matt will be a significant loss to the football program, his cutting edge work having taken the club to the very boundaries of sports science.

The club will wish him well in his new venture and find him very difficult to replace

Anyway, while the resident melters were melting during this press conference, I was busy but in the background of what I was doing there was a tv that had ABC with a program on, Redesign My Brain with Todd Sampson, and from the tidbits that I could take in, it think it was covering some of the stuff that was being debated on here about effectiveness of meditation. The episode is repeated this Saturday at about 3pm if anyone wants to check it out.

Not sure effectiveness of meditation has been discussed all that much.

And then find ' the best person for the job'

Burton had to know that one of his main jobs in that press conference was to explain, very clearly, the hamstring curse, and what steps we’ve taken to fix it.

Instead he looked at the reporter like she’d just asked him to donate a kidney, and Pyke had to jump in and save his ass.

It’s not just that he wasn’t capable of explaining, it’s that he didn’t think he had to. He acted like he was being doorstopped, not fronting a media conference that his own club had called to clear the air.

And that’s not entirely his fault either. The club called the conference and didn’t even say what it was for, didn’t have Pyke or Burton open the conference with any sort of address about CM or anything else, just had them walk in and stand like there sitting ducks.
