Why did Essendon ditch Neeld.

It will serve three purposes.

1) if he is seen as a reason for losses then getting rid of him might improve performance.
2) circuit breaker to change the media narrative.

3) Keep the heat off the admin. The natives are restless.

He seems like a pretty genuine bloke and a good man-manager.

However, he also seems to be severely lacking in technical expertise.

I thought 4 years ago he was moving between lines of coaching and each line he took was our worst line for the year. Should of been sacked in 2014

It really isn't diminishing his value. Saints and Hawks apparently sniffing if the rumours of him looking elsewhere are true. Hawks have pick 11 which I would happily take off their hands. Saints have pick 4 and nothing else to offer bar a 2019 first rounder. Either way, if Harry goes we will get rewarded handsomely for him. SOS wont let Harry leave for anything other than a first rounder. That id be certain of. Assuming the rumours have any basis in fact.

Harry leaving and us netting a pick at 10 is a horrible return. Big Harry was pick 10 in a strong draft and after 3 season if we traded him for pick 10 then it means we have wasted 3 years of development when we could have used that pick elsewhere.

Im a big fan of his, i don't mind the club making him earn his spot but i am worried we will lose him only for him to blossom at another club. It would really highlight our club as not a good one.

Sorry Sin City... but Barker should have never been hired! I thought that he did a good job as the interim senior coach after we put a bullet into Malthouse's career... but as a general coach... he's useless!

Agree like the idea of Mitchell marshalling our midfield.Hopefully mire grunt and footy IQ will be shown in the boys. An inspirational player should transfer to good coach.

I think it increases our chances. A 2-20 season with asking we'd have a chance without asking no chance. Even with 1-21 and the worst percentage since Fitzroy not asking leaves very little to no chance

Whatever line barker has been in charge of at Carlton since Hawthorn has been horrible. Coincidence??

So how has he held a job at Carlton for what, 6/7 years? I'm not having a crack as we are all entitled to our opinion but if he was terrible, surely he would have been moved on much earlier.

Asking means nothing. So why grovel. Its a pathetic look. If the afl want to give one so be it.

Maybe they thought he had value and moved him on to another position and thought it would suit him better. In my profession I see it all the time.

Explain to me a Carlton line of recent years that has overachieved? How you can possibly blame Barker is strange. The fact is List Management & development are the reason we find ourselves where we are and both of these have been a problem for too long.
List Management has nothing to do with Barker but I grant you, he's a part of the team that oversees development - this however is the responsibility of the senior coach of the time.
Brendan Bolton & SOS are the two most important men at the footy club not Johnny Barker...
