I love the idea in Abbott playing ( if Stanley is playing as well) as we stretch them in hight in the ruck and in size all over the ground..
West Coast killed them when they had 2 rucks.
Let them chase us in our game style instead of us try playing small forwards pressure footy.
This. Let us play our game instead of worrying about theirs. Henry said after the Brisbane game they were going to focus mostly on their game than Richmonds.

Not sure its the right game for Abbott to come in. As I've said before, Grigg is their backup ruckman. Zero need for a second ruck. Rather throw Henry in there and have an extra defender/mid.

Ah well, not the first time this season I've been thrown on selection night.

Lets see how he goes.
Collingwood played far better when they exploited Richmond’s lack of second ruck. We should do the same. We could break the game open doing it.

Losing narkle hurts. We really have very little pace on the forward line. Jones adds tackling pressure but basically nothing offensively.

Both Jones & Narkle have kicked 4 goals in their games this year - so yes it hurts losing Narkle, but his replacement has kicked the same number of goals as him & averages more tackles than Narkle, but Narkle averages 3 more disposals.

Keep Jones forward and have him front & centre at the contest - he isn't a poor inclusion, and chances are that Narkle will return next week after taking personal leave this week, plus this is a good opportunity for Narkle to refresh on a week he is unavailable before coming back for the last 5 weeks of the h&a season heading into finals

Let’s no try to pretend you are not one of the melt crew. You wanted Stanley kicked off the list and never to play a game again at the start of the season.
We all melt over something. You 'quit' for instance because DM was omitted for a final.
The ZG furore is OTT. He's a kid being thrown in the deep end, what he needs is a lot of gym sessions and lots of VFL footy.

But Murdoch & Parsons are named in the emergencies, while Thurlow got overlooked for a debutant in Abbott
There's merit in the Abbott inclusion. Now with Smith emergency to cover Stanley if he doesn't get up I'm guessing we're using a new tactic of playing two ruckman to try and exploit their makeshift in Grigg or whoever else contests the bounce while Nankervis is having a spell. It's a good idea with our star studded midfield and I think we can exploit the Tigers in this area and even more so when Nankervis is off the ground having a breather. The Richmond midfield will have to work harder than normal given our clear ruck advantage. Collingwood did quite well in this area last week I've been told but they just had far too many good players out to get the 4 points. It's something different and I like it.

Smith and Murdoch >>>>>>>>> Abbott and Jones if you want a ruck and a forward option against the premiers right here and right now. Jones might be ok going forward but can't see him having any impact at all against Richmond.
Agree. Playing youth in what effectively is a must win game for top 4 is ridiculous.

Thats a misconception about the Pies playing better - yes they won the hitouts & clearances when Nankervis was off the ground, but Richmond actually outscored the Pies by 13 points during that same period.

Richmond don't care about losing hitouts or clearances because they back themselves to win the ball off the opposition & take control on turnovers

I really hope Murdoch comes in ahead of Parsons for the late change

Parsons will poo his pants in front of the Richmond faithful.

I think the other reason for a second ruck is that we will see Henry play as bit more of a swing man this week rather than a permanent forward as he has the past couple of weeks - with Abbott, Stanley & Henry all playing we should always have at least 1 option for a second tall forward to play alongside Hawkins (or 2 for the times when Hawkins is on the bench) which will hopefully put some added pressure on the Richmond defence.

I agree with you about Smith.

I think we aren't miles apart on that TEDDY
I'm talking about trying it now, not in the finals. The only reason he gets double teamed is when we are bombing. If you lower the eyes, Hawk gets a good look at it. So do others. We actually have a plethora of hard working small forwards who when working together are a very good unit.
Of course when Ratagolea is available we play another tall down there, but otherwise, use the brain mids and lower the bloody eyes
We want you back (El Guapo)

But can't you see. . Let them worry about us in the ball ups, as IF it works out they we will worry about us winning the ruck.

Yet another debutant tomorrow night:

Ryan Abbott will make his AFL debut against the Tigers on Friday night with the Cats making two changes to their side that defeated Brisbane.

The 27-year-old will become the Cats seventh debutant this year and 40th player used by the club in 2018, an AFL high.

The ruckman will be joined in this week’s team by Jamaine Jones.

Out for the Cats are Tom Stewart (injury) and Quinton Narkle (funeral).

Jordan Murdoch, James Parsons, Zac Smith and Jackson Thurlow have been named emergences.

The Cats clash against the Tigers kicks at 7.50pm at the MCG.

It definitely looks like we're worrying less about Richmond's strengths and playing or own game. Dominate the clearances like last time but more height up forward means their defenders shouldn't dominate in the air as much. I feel if we can bring the ball to ground, harass them and take our chances we're every chance. If they take intercept marks repeatedly like last time they might destroy us in transition.

Not if our forwards are accountable.

I have absolutely no clue what to make of these changes. None. Other than to say that surely Thurlow’s papers are stamped now? Thought he’d be in for Stewart for sure.

He's not a defensive player, attacking half back or wing. Stewart going down means we need either a defensive player down back or to replace Henry up forward. Jackson does neither.

I don't think this is the end so much as the available role wasn't his bag.

Comparing both teams our midfield looks a lot better but unfortunately looking at the forward and back match ups they have us covered pretty easily, we’ll need our mids to absolutely destroy theirs for us to win this.
Tipping Tigers by 3 goals.
