Didn't Lethal go to court after punching Neville Bruns all those years ago ??

This is a serious serious incident, I'd be seeking damages.

He was the last person charged for an on field incident

I doubt charges will come out of this but he’ll certainly be out of the game for some time

Gaff has ****** up and ****** up really really badly, but that's it, he isn't a worse person because of it. People need to get a grip.
Yes he is

It's exactly precisely what he is

Gaff should absolutely be facing criminal charges. Off field that's jail time.

When engaging in a sport, participants implicitly agree to accept a certain degree of risk which includes injury resulting from actions both inside and outside the rules.

However when an action is so far removed from what might be expected, then the perpetrator can be subject to criminal action.

A coward punch 100m off the play, delivered with such force that it causes serious injury, in my opinion, fits the description and Gaff should be charged.

I asked this question on the main board but encountered some emotional dockers fans.

Do people think he actually meant to hit him in the face? Or was it a clumsy swing of the arm?

If it was the former, that's a huge brain fade. Footballers are highly constrained these days when it comes to punching anywhere near the face especially like how Gaff did. I just find it hard to believe he would intentionally do that knowing the consequences.

Has he come out and said anything? Is there better footage?

I haven't watched a lot of gaff but he's never seemed like the thuggish type. Maybe I'm wrong there.

I doubt he meant to punch him in the face, if he did he rightly deserves to be called a dog.

of course he didn't mean to, people suggesting otherwise are just trying to create so moral chasm that they can push Gaff into as part of their being outraged on social media moment.

calling for assult charges isn't going to help either, the courts would much prefer it dealt with by the AFL league and rightly so, given it wasn't premeditated he is unlikely to get much other than a fine.

Given the AFL is setup to look after its players, Brayshaw is going to have the best medical assistance in the land to fix him up and no cost to him so the whole court thing is a waste of taxpayers money. In the end Brayshaw is going to have his injury remedied without the coursts needing to be involved (a win win).

Think we need to stop with " he should go to jail" or " if he did it in the street he'd get jail"

At worst he'd get a suspended sentence given his circumstances.

Anyways, how many West Coast Eagles players need to go to jail before they admit there is a problem?
I'd be surprised if he'd be given a suspended sentence.

Not with that level of bodily harm.

I read sentencing remarks everyday in the courts, makes for interesting reading.

Anyways, first offense, pleads guilty, shows remorse, willing to compensate medical bills, has a good job, respected member of the community, he isn't doing jail time. He has all the things judges are looking for to suspend a sentence and enter into a GBB

Not to mention he has the capacity for great legal representation.

What exactly did he mean to do? Wipe some dirt from the kids face like a doting mum? Pull a penny out from behind his ear. He clenched his fist and swung it with enough force to dislodge teeth and break a jaw, well behind the play.

Of course there should be discussion about whether or not this was assault. It may well have been a complete brain snap, well out of his usual character, but to suggest it wasn’t intentional is absurd. People should realise by now that a single punch has the capacity to do great harm and you don’t get to use the excuse that you didn’t mean to do any damage. Of course you did. You punched someone in the face. The only reason you do this is to cause the other person harm.

Also, the argument that it’s all fine and dandy because Brayshaw is going to receive top class medical treatment is as silly as most of what else you’ve written. Good god. There is no defence for what Gaff did, and thankfully we won’t be seeing him play for a good long while.

It was pretty unreal given that Gaff is usually very disciplined and I can’t recall him ever acting doing anything thuggish. It reminded me of the Mark Bickley incident (it happened “right in front of me”) although Bicks was a much tougher footballer but never thuggish until that moment.

IMHO he will get 5-8 matches. Does he get the Cotchin Final’s discount? Nah, not a Victorian.

Compared to Bugg
1) Both players were facing each other whereas Bugg was more of a sniping act.
2) Obviously head high, intentional and a devastating impact.
3) Gaff has a spotless record compared to Bugg, does he did a discount for this.

I expect him to get 6 matches, he would be very lucky and get 5 matches, 10 isn’t out of the question.

Not particularly relevant but Gaff doesn’t know how to throw a punch. It looked like a person who just swings his arm wildly and it landed exactly where it would cause the most damage.

Calling it now.

IF Port are stuck on 13 wins after their last game

Will Kenny and Kano cry about the AFL scheduling their game on the Friday night when a team sitting ninth goes past them on Saturday or Sunday knowing exactly what score they need to sneak through on percentage and knock Port out.

I remember Bickley’s hit on Wakelin
Instantly remorseful , did huge damage - copped his whack and was apologetic for years about it

Very good point!

A Port poster bumped the Jonas thread saying Jonas is now justified for hitting Gaff

The stupids of some people
All it shows is that Jonas and Gaff are both thugs

Destroyed her haha. Tbf her questions were pretty dumb.
She was provoking him trying to get him to go ballistic and call for Gaff to be suspended for 12 weeks etc. needed a headline

It certainly seems out of character, but I think if you wind up like that with the intention of hitting somebody in the chest, but accidentally collect them in the face, you don't just merrily jog off after the ball after the act. You immediately check on the person and see if they're ok. I have zero doubt he lost it and intended to punch Brayshaw in the face.

Gaff should be in Jail after that, just because you're on a footy field doesn't mean you can just assult an 18 year old kid like that.
If he did it on the street he'd be arrested and charged 100%
