It would be an absolute dagger to supporter morale if Shiel chose the druggies over the CFC. Absolutely devastating.

Absolutely correct! Imagine growing up a mad Carlton supporter, your family are Carlton supporters, the club being able to facilitate a top deal and being able to pay you top dollar to come and play and then choosing bloody Essendon! It happened with Saad and if it happens with Shiel the disrespect the current AFL players have for this club is at levels clearly not seen before. we are officially the new St Kilda of the 80s!

It is an indictment on the current playing group, current and previous administrations that this is a possibility. GWS walking us off the park a few weeks ago was probably the sealer if this is the case.

I've been very patient in this rebuild. very patient. I've copped the injuries this year, the youth excuse, the torched earth approach taken by the club to reset the list...we've taken it all in, the group I sit in the social club with every week has as well. We've been on board.......BUT...... the results and the level of play this year has been unacceptable at this level and if it continues next year the patience will run out....it's as simple as that....next year we are 4 years into this and might I add 20 years from our last Grand Final....right now we have never been further away from another one!

Talk it up all you like, the kids, the kids etc.....it's a results business and this year is our worst on record and it'll finish with 2 wins and a list that is as unbalanced in profile as I can remember and one that hasn't scored over 100 points in 50 games. that's the cold hard reality. Another year like this and the bottom line will suffer, we'll attract no one else again and heads will roll. Board, coach and all.

I'll say it again Silvagni and our new head of football have a big job to do this year, they need to look at our list and say we have enough under 22 year old talent to last us a very long time...... right now we have nobody between the age of 24-28 (apart from Doc) who is capable of being anywhere near an AFL quality player and that is the age profile that makes you competitive in AFL football. we will have Pick 1, a PP and two second round picks this year. Go and get a Shiel quality player or two to walk into this side to help us get competitive. Do whatever it takes with those picks to address the gaping issues that are present in our list. The Mullett. O'shea days are over, they've set us back and we don't need another pick 1 to wreck their careers just quietly

Anyone who disagrees with me needs to read the start of this post, accept the possibility that Shiel and any other player of worth right now doesn't want to come here at all and accept that our current playing stocks are the laughing stock of the competition.

Big off season coming up, the natives have been patient more than ever, but we're getting restless.

I wanted Shiel rather a lot, as he's a very good player, but I come back to something I've been saying rather a lot recently.

Who cares?

Shiel's good, but you know who's better? Kelly, who's a FA next year. Fancy offering GWS pick 1 for Kelly outright, or throw in one of the seconds to make things more palatable? How about doing the same to Tobe Greene? Name a marquee midfielder in the competition who's contract is due to expire and who will enter into FA next season, and you will have a prospective player to trade pick 1 for, and that is should you choose to trade it at all.

There is more than a single way to skin a mongoose, and getting stuck on a single target blinds you to every other option you possess. Move on from a player who doesn't want to come and play for us, and onto another option, and that's if you're willing to believe Essendon supporters when they speak.

Mongoose ….. **snickers**

How many old blokes should we play? Simmo, Murphy, Wright, Ed, Daisy, Mullet then add Fasolo, Poppy and Roughhead. Sounds like the Pagan days are coming back...
Hope we can fit them in and add youth in our rumoured 8 list changes.

Would actually like us to field a younger team next year FFS.
I was thinking along the lines of having Roughead in there with his leadership footy smarts would fastrack Harry's/Kerr's development. Same could be said for Poppy, each game played with him in the forward line would be gold and be fastracking players like Picket, LeBois, Garlett. Much like having Simmo and Doch in the backline to support younger players. Who is the general in the forward line ATM?

Apologies mate but unfortunately the emotions are starting to boil and as with anything in life you must accept the reality of what you face, if there is a problem you must address it, no point to keep telling yourself it will be fine when results are telling you otherwise. we are at a critical point in the clubs history and the club must act with urgency!

Ok. I have very good mail that there is a very strong likelihood that Shiel WILL be coming to CFC either this year or next. Marc smurf 3 can you please corroborate from your end?
not how it works......

For what it's worth, Kelly is OOC next year but not a FA.

The decision to release Mitchell and Lewis sort of coincided with the belief that they would be rebuilding. It looks as though they have done the fastest rebuild in AFL history however.

Can we just trade pick 1 for Clarkson?

It's not a rebuild though. Someone (not sure if them or media) have constructed a rebuild narrative. There are still enough premiership players and squad members in that team to say its the same team. The players who have gone only have a year or two left. They didn't plan on unsettling Lewis, but they did and he left. You could call it a makeover, or a renovation, but not a rebuild.

We're rebuilding. Early in the process, and soon after the knock down, we did some soil testing and found that the ground was contaminated. It's been that way since dumped some toxic chemical called Elliotoxin. So we had to do a full site clean up. Guys in protective clothing. Only then could we start the rebuild. It's slowed us down, but the design of the new building still looks magnificent. Just taking a bit longer.

Goal kicking mid hey? I think you have Shiel mixed up with someone else who kicks goals!

In all fairness Juddy, after setting aside players such as Martin, Danger, Gray etc, that spend a fair bit of time resting forward, most "goal midfielders" would probably average about 1 goal every second match, which Shiel, Neale, Cotchin, Kelly do

I hear you - but talk of Fasolo (who cannot even get on the park) and Roughhead (32 FFS) do not inspire much confidence we are really doing a proper rebuild. Plus another old Hawks player (Poppy?) makes it sound like our kids won't get much game time at all next year.

We are going to the draft and trading but the other clubs are too. Hawks got O'Meara, Mitchell and Warpol into their midfield last year. We got Kennedy, Dow and LOB. They get greater immediate impact - so it is very hard to catch up.

We hired Bolton as a development coach - It is slow and tedious - so we are all frustrated. All we have is small signs like McKay starting to blossom.

But if we change streams now and stifle our kids development then we really are a joke. Would prefer young kids losing and improving (like GWS did) than old blokes giving us their best - but still losing.

When promoting a player as a goal kicking midfielder, its not right to say Shiel is one of them. 5 goals from 19 games this year with a 20% scoring accuracy. Yes thats 1 year. Other years arent much better though...

He is an elite outside mid link man who can sometimes get his own ball. He has a higher turn over percentage than ed curnow with practically idential disposals per game.

I rate him! Want him. But he has flaws and isn't what you would call a goal kicking mid.
