As the OP pointed out, the siren not sounding and "next score wins" if the game is still tied is a recipe for disaster.

Has there been a grand final draw not involving Collingwood? In the event of a draw this weekend I say ban Collingwood from grand finals
Should be first to 100 wins
For those who were unaware, golden point has happened before in the TAC Cup GF without issue:
From about 3:50
So a bit anti climactic then.
Blow siren for full time. Then restart play in the middle. Then there is no doubt when the winning score is kicked (or rushed) and the cheers will go up instantly.
So if a player marks or gets a free kick slightliy outside of one of the goal posts in front of the point line. When "lining uo for goal" the umpire positions them across the point line with the opposition manning the mark near the goal post. It going to look stupid when the player just turns 90 degrees and kicks the ball 30cm through for a point to win the biggest game of the year.
Even if nothing else changes, im genuinely mystified as to why you wouldn’t blow the siren and let everybody know what’s going on.
Why on earth would you risk confusion at one of the most epic and important moments in the history of the game? What’s the gain?
****ing clueless. The siren means "stop," so it would be confusing if in this rare situation it meant, "keep going."Yup, this would be the only change I'd make - just give the siren a couple of quick toots.
Nothing else should change - if a team is in the forward 50 just before this, then I guess they're closer to scoring, so they should retain this advantage. And points are a legitimate form of scoring at any other time, so no reason they shouldn't be in golden point time.
Agree that the seamless golden point ruling is dumb af, no matter how unlikely it is to happen... typical Amateur Football League
Siren should sound, 5min break, then golden goal starting from the center.... behinds are not registered at all
Or goal kicking shootout from all the forwards from different points within the 50m arc... world cup style... drama would be massive.... I actually wouldn't mind seeing this trialled for home and away for one season (immediately after 4 quarters, no extra time) just to see if it would be well received or not

folks, including me, want to romanticize a golden score to be a goal
if they did a golden score properly... siren sounds on the end of ET2, 5min break, the bounce down.... and a shitty behind is scored in 30sec and everyone is like WTF
That would be every soccer world cup ever.I actually really like the idea of a goal kicking contest. The pressure on the player that has to kick the goal from straight in front would be immense

Obviously it's best if everyone knows what's happening, but since in modern AFL players know when there's 10 seconds left, I don't think anyone will have too much trouble.
but why would a point be a shitty way to win?
I think Tony Lockett's 1996 prelim final point after the siren is the most replayed point in footy history and is celebrated as if it was a goal
