You might also need to exchange draft picks and / or a player. They are the "currency" of trading.

But you need to be careful not to "sell the farm". I am not sure what this means, as I know we've just divested in pubs, but had no idea that we were also prevalent in agribusiness.

Sorry thought he was uncontracted , surplus to there needs maybe a pick swap

Hill is only one year older than Langdon but I thought the speculation of him leaving was killed anyways.
If they making a big offer then they have to offer quality.

Pick 18 + Langdon for Logue + B.Hill?
Logue would fit right in been out injured all year :drunk:

I think Langdon staying depends on how hard we pursue an experienced keyback.
Ie: if we get May, we might not be able to keep Langdon.

Langdon will be receiving offers close to 1.5 times our offer. Our offer is probably around $400k, and the rumours are Fremantle are offering 600k. He’ll never be a superstar, so I wouldn’t blame him for taking the money.

This is why I think we should chase young key-defenders with upside or players towards the end of their career, so that we don’t neccesarily need to break the bank when trading for them.

If Moore,Dunn, Schaz, Reid, Goldsack and Magden stay fit, we have ample KPD.

That’s not ample imo

Shaz , Goldsack are not KPD

Moore isn’t yet but his upside is huge

Madge who knows if he will come on.

Murphy is the ready made replacement for Langdon, and he is the best reader of play at our club. THE best.
Can run all day too, marks v well and his kicking skills are better than Langdon.

Is it possible Langdon is cashing in ? Maybe he knows Murphy is going to pass him. Remember home saying we would of been happy to take Murphy at 6 if needed such was the option on him. Maybe we can fill a need moving him on and Langdon gets paid. I’d rather keep him that being said

My feeling is Murphy will be a lock in our back by end of 2019. Unbelievable we got him at the pick we did.

I’d say not.
Langdon is just going with his managers advice of letting him get best deal that’s fair to both parties.
Nothing more than that.

We’ll keep Langdon and Moore

I don't see this. Murphy's marking is good, but Langdon's is exceptional. They don't seem to be the same kind of player to me. I realize that Langdon has always been heavily criticized here, but can his critics not accept now that he is a good player and look at the positives of keeping him. He is a valuable player looking for a contract that reflects his value. This is normal and acceptable in my view.

Good news - Moore staying. Looking like we are out of the race for May though.

I dont think we need the gun FB. We should be looking at the "cheaper " alternatives. Hombsch, Schoenmakers, Adams or look at the VFL. We need someone to just play a role down back, until Will Kelly is ready to come in and be a permanent fixture in our back six. In saying that we have great FB in Dunn, just depends when he is back and how he goes after knee surgery at 31 yrs old.
Realistically the only way we get May is if he came across to us next year as a free agent. We dont have the tradable commodities to get it done this year.

Apparently there is a substantial difference between what he wants and what we are offering.

Now that Moore stays I think will be interesting what they do with the first rounder.

Still think they need a defender but Melbourne look like leading race for May so lets assume he is out.

Adams is the one for me. Got all the attributes except for being 'brittle'. We would also be able to land him and retain that first selection.

The other one I would look at is Hombsch. Met him a few times and a ripping fella and would be a good fit in any club. Lovely kick, can take big blokes and whilst he didnt have a great year this year would def look at. Also comes cheap.

In terms of the first selection we could also aim to trade up to circa pick 8-10 by uisng next years first round as well. That is a bit left field but possible.

Im a big fan of bringing in Hombsch, looking like May going to Dees and Adams to Lions. Also see Kelly at CHB and McLarty at FB.

Hombsch, Dunn best 22 with Kelly and McLarty developing in vfl not bad.

Moore and Cox up fwd with Mihocek and Reid as depth up fwd.

May's manager said only 5 minutes ago: "It is wrong to assume Melbourne are leading the race to sign May"

Agree they seem different players.

Ideally for us I’d think we are viewing Langdon and Scharenberg duality in defence with Howe in those intercept roles supported by key types Moore and Dunn/McLarty/May?/Reid type.
Though Reid seems more CHB for mind.

Then the other backline support the smaller defence or running types of Maynard and Crisp then Appleby/Murphy?/Murray????/
Greenwood/Varcoe

Unsure details.
Managers like extracting clubs like that a little less.

I like Hombsch but Shoenmakers had helped us win enough already.
