Given how we normally are great to deal with I'd suggest there may be more to this one than meets the eye to be honest.. Something is making us play harder than normal.

What the club seems to get (that people on here don’t seem to get) is the vast majority of players swapped are worth very little and are interchangeable, Kelly is not that type of player, hence we are holding our ground.

Geelong will get the pick they want or something very close to it, or they won’t do it. This is the Eagles best chance at him, if he stays another year, Freo become favourites.

They will pay up.

Especially if Freo get Hogan and Lobb and start to improve a little, they may be a more attractive proposition next year, and willing to offer a lot more. A lot can change in 12 months of football. Buckley was going to be sacked this time last year and didn't Robert Walls have WC getting the spoon or something ridiculous like that?

Who knows, if van der Wielen can't get this deal done this year, TK may have a new manager as well.

I was thinking that as well. Two things actually which is one more than normal: a) club have been let down by expectation and dealing with TK/mgmt. b) club has their eye on the prize-and I doubt that this hasn't been all worked out pretty well before now. Fact that we talked to Freo when TK's mgmt. indicated he wanted either WC or Geel or bust makes me think something is not quite right. Go home factor, go home to anywhere you can.

We all don't know what is happening behind close doors, we don't know what deals clubs are doing with picks etc, we are just keyboard warriors wanting the best deals for our clubs.

But you do have picks 20,21 and next years first round plus players you could trade. Could’ve traded the picks from this year to Sydney but missed that. I think the Eagles do have the currency and any team does it’s just that they’ve given no indication of what they’re willing to trade.

Freo have to spend big (picks) to get Hogan and Lobb. They aren't going to have enough left over to spend on a player who doesn't want to go there and who has a manager that publicly insulted them.
