Luckily I have the Labor version of the NBN and no issues at all with streaming.

I have the Liberal NBN, with performance equal to your Labor NBN. Of course, the NBN is only relevant for the "last km", and the streaming problems actually occur outside of their sphere of influence. So, we can't really bring politics into this! ;)

I think the most interesting thing to come out of that game is that all of Murphy, Stengle, McAdam and McHenry did enough to put a claim on that second small forward spot. JLT will be interesting to see which one can pull ahead of the pack.

Just based on that game, I would have McAdam ahead not just based on goals, but his speed and skill when in possession.

Game didnt tell us much imo. Keath a key defensive post round 1 along with McAdam playing round 1 I would say. Ruck depth a major problem. Not sure where Fogarty plays, possibly down back or if one of the forwards go down. Liked Mchenry. Next week will tell us more.
"Ruck depth a problem"? So we aren't calling for Sauce to be sacked still?

You'd think this match would be a much more genuine opportunity for Port players to press claims for a round 1 spot given they will likely be playing many more U23 players than we will.

Realistically there were only a handful of our players that will be considered for round 1: Crouch and Doedee, possibly Knight, Gallucci and Keath, and maybe one spot between Fogarty, Jones, McAdam, Murphy, Stengle and McHenry

Port will be considering many more than six players. Amon, Bonner, Byrne-Jones, Burton, Butters, Gray, Howard, Marshall, Rozee, Duursma, Broadbent, Farrell, Johnson will all be in consideration for upwards of 10 spots

Assuming no injuries to the rest of the players, from today surely it would be just Brouch, Doedee, Keath, Fog and McAdam.

The club’s ‘future’ Ruck division and Knight & Galluci the worst take aways from the game, both of those players bordered on totally disinterested and just plain sub-standard for most of the game.

They get worse each year.

I was hoping we'd go down the Murphy route and bring in guys who missed out on being drafted.
Me too, there was/is a ripper kid Charlie Wilson [medium forward/mid] that went undrafted that would kill for an opportunity to play SANFL/VFL to show his worth, 2018 TAC Cup equal leading goalkicker, just a good natural footballer. Not sure where he'll turn up this year maybe back at his home town Warracknabeal for the Warrack Eagles, way way better than that!

Did McHenry ever tag as a junior? Has the tank, and decent tackling technique. Will hurt his opponent going the other way too. Already pressing for Knight's spot in the team I reckon. I liked what I saw a lot. Good pressure, good skills, good workrate, and pretty decent output across the game. Kicked a ripper of a goal too.

Murphy, Stengle & McAdam all put their hands up for the vacant small forward position. I don't envy the selection committee in choosing between them. I'll be happy with whatever decision they make.

McHenry was pretty good in patches, though he did try to do a bit too much with the ball (i.e. getting caught when he tried to sell the candy a 2nd time in the 4th quarter).

I didn't see much of Jones, and the two times I did spot him were both clangers. I didn't hear his name called at all in the second half.

Fogarty didn't seem to have improved much from last season. He's still a very big unit, who moves slowly and leads in straight lines. He kicks the ball like a mule, but he doesn't get near it enough to be dangerous.

Adelaide's second half was disappointing to say the least. The ball was permanently camped in Port's forward half, and rarely entered our F50. The forwards did a good job of taking advantage of those few opportunities, but the opportunities were few & far between.

I don't think Keath is a lock. Hartigan has supposedly been in full training for weeks and will play JLT. We typically heavily favor incumbents so it will be hard for Keath to surpass Hartigan and Talia.

McAdam I think might struggle to make the 22 based on fitness.

Fogarty, while I'd love to see him play, we shouldn't play him if it will disrupt our structure

or does the depth issue start from the top?
Is it a depth issue if theres nothing to be considered as good enough to be depth for?
I guess then its a dearth?
We have 5 ruckmen on our list - Sauce, JJ, ROB, Hunter & Strachan. Two of those are on the rookie list. Three of those players have 2 AFL games between them. The depth is very thin, particularly if something happens to Jacobs.

Probably because half our squad were forwards. Our defenders were extremely raw outside of Keath and Doedee, and our midfield was basically Crouch, first year players and top ups

Keath is the incumbent, not Hartigan.

Their accuracy is what is keeping them in this match to be honest. Its a kind of game we should be comfortably 4-5 goal up.

I thought that we had the better players and more effort (until the last), but they were far cleaner and more direct, which led to their accurate goalkicking (although they had a few lucky ones). We were too scrappy.

True... but that midfield performed a lot better in the first half. Things really fell away badly after the long break.

I was assuming Keath is a lock based on Hartigan's interrupted preseason.

If not McAdam who would you have instead of him?

I think Fog can play a swingman off the bench allowing either a forward or back a spell on the bench.

A positive is we shouldn't have to rely on Gallucci or Knight as small forwards, who are both better suited to midfield roles. We should be fielding a team with Betts and at least one of Murphy, Stengle, McAdam or maybe even a McHenry
This 100%

We needed those types to show a bit today and they did.

Played better than Hartigan had all season, and would have kept his position if Hartigan had been fit to return.

Sure, that's what you think might have happened but there is no precedent yet to suggest Keath has the spot over Hartigan.

Considering how we tend to favor the more experienced player in any situation like this, the most likely situation is the coaches will pick Hartigan first

ROB was dominant for a half, he will be fine.

We are going to have to overpay to bring someone in this trade period. Jacobs will most likely play every game and then retire.
