A lot too like from today, CRIPPS SPS DOW FISHER WALSH all really impressive through the midfield, WEITERING JONES SIMPSON THOMAS GARLETT great in defence.

Down forward CUNNINGHAM impressive again McKAY McGOVERN got better in second half CHARLIE ok POLSONS pressure was good PHILLIPS out played but gave it his all in the ruck, SETTLEFIELD building, still looks a little rusty Quieter games by NEWMAN MURPHY PLOWMAN CURNOW GIBBONS not having much influence.

Game Plan and Team Structures looked more impressive than last week, was another level up against better opposition, thought we got opened up easily when they rebounded from defence, their ability to switch play, run and link up way too easy.

Probably the most frustrating aspect of our ball movent today were the turnovers from bombing it into the forward line, wrong options and forwards not playing in front of their man, things we can get better at with a bit more poise. Great hit out for round1👍

Wouldn't mind another mature tough body in there though. A Callan Ward type would be very handy at the moment

Well, we have Ed Curnow who when he stops dominating as a forward [emoji849] is a hard, tough, contested 2 way running mid.

McGovern was genuinely taking the piss for the first three quarters but good to see him pull his finger out and get involved in the last, suspect we'll see a much more switched on player in Round 1.

Charlie was putrid but I don't think it's anything to be concerned about whatsoever, I think he's also eyeing off Round 1.

Jones was amazing and is looking really solid, looks set for a really strong season. Weitering also very good.

Loved SPS's game. Fisher worked into it strongly after an average first half.

Cripps looked to be going through the motions somewhat today but was still a standout contributor.

The scoreboard definitely flattered us, felt like Collingwood were just toying with us for extended periods of the match.

Plowman looms as a huge problem if selected in Round 1 (and let's face it, given no Marchbank/Docherty/Williamson he almost certainly will be). Looked like he'd never played a game of football in his life at times today.

I really think that was a bit of a pre season thing. Come Rd One I bet Curnow is straight into the middle. I'd still like another one though

The biggest issue from Today's game is Marc Murphy. He butchers it way way too often. You saw Collingwood mids punishing us with their inside 50, whilst Murphy punished us with his turnovers. I really think he's a liability.

You hate Murphy more than your father in law hates lefties.

Entries into the 50 need to be addressed but starting to think we want it bombed in fast and back our talls - in that case our talls need to be more competitive.

Very rusty and Collingwood killed us in the link up and get out possession to a player in the clear.

Polson is the least poised small forward in front of the goals in the league. I want to like him but it's a huge issue.

Plowman looks like he can't give a shit, I'd chalk it up to JLT but it's a trend. No urgency and lacks effort/smarts. Honestly, bring Goddard in.

Samo, Dow, Setterfield, Fish, Cunners and Walsh will give us a great boost this year, been really fun watching them this pre-season.

Tigers will take the win in 10 days but there's a good chance we challenge them!

Walsh is a class above most Carlton players already. Glad he stated he would be a one Club player before the draft.

Jones and Weitering did well and I thought this was Garlett's best game back there - although looked more dangerous when he went forward.

SPS and Cuningham were very good again. Setterfield was struggling in the 4th - played well up to that point. I've decided I like Thomas - has earned my respect because he truly gives it his all on field.

Fisher /Charlie/McGovern would be disappointed with their performances.

Looking at Charlie/Dow - you need to kick those fellas.

Congratulations Walsh on taking responsibility for the shot.

Best thing about the game was clear evidence that the side has more 4 quarter run capability.
Gees I thought fisher did ok

I thought this really stuck out. So much possession for so little result. This points to a very good effort by our players to minimise the damage from their huge possession advantage.
Carlton was prepared to close down space which forced Collingwood into lots of short kicks to keep possession.

Gee the Umps are quick to pay a free against us.

Pies do the same thing it is bloody play on.
The number of times they have pinged us for incorrect disposal and the Pies just throw it out when tackled and it’s play on. Joke

Very happy with that hitout.

I said a few days ago this is just about as good a contest as we can hope for in the leadup to round 1, with the Pies a mature side who look likely to go deep again in 2019.

Great signs to push them all the way and fight to get back into the contest late. Interesting that we played two less than they did.

Most pleasing aspect for mine is to get through another game unscathed, injuries at this time of year can really derail a season as we unfortunately know all too well.

Murphy - Am glad he is being transitioned out of the middle but the extent to which we've done it has surprised. Will be interesting to see if that carries through to the regular season. Had no impact today, but always cruises through preseason, so am reluctant to judge too harshly.

Simpson - Another typical Simmo game, continues to provide great drive out of the backline but prone to a brain fart or three with ball in hand.

Cripps - A monster in the contest as always, looked to be cruising today, clearly has his eye on the real stuff against the Tigers.

Walsh - Can't have impressed more through the preseason, another strong game today, found plenty of it, used it well.

McKay - Thought he was terrific, worked very hard, both in the ruck and up forward. Imposed himself on the contest particularly late. 4 contested marks is a great sign.

Ed - Just don't like the new role we've given him, can understand the thinking behind it, but think he's of greater value around the midfield contest.

SPS - If preseason is anything to go by, Samo will be one of our big improvers in 2019. Has had a full preseason and boy does it show. He was excellent today, his work in contested situations is a joy to watch.

Cuningham - Has had a great start to the year and today was no different, still fades in and out of the contest, but is dangerous when in the contest. Used the ball well and as always finished nicely in front of goal. Is an absolute lock to play seniors in round one.

Thomas - Playing behind the ball again in 2019 and has done very well through the preseason games. Not a fan favorite but with his experience, smarts and effort you can be sure he's one of the first picked in this side.

Charlie - Had an absolute shocker today, well beaten by Moore, but started to have an impact late. Had no spring in his step so can only assume he wasn't at 100%.

Jones - Outstanding, has had a strong few weeks and looks set to have a good year down back. Was strong in the contest and used the ball well. Still makes terrible decisions here and there but he looks to be back to what he showed in the back half of 2017, hopefully that carries through into the regular season.

Fisher - Great to see him out there, his zip is so important to this team. Quick, handles the ball well, kicks long, he's a beauty.

Weitering - Excellent again today, and certainly looks a candidate for our most improved player. Has bulked up, looks more sure of himself, and it is amazing what some confidence can do. Competed hard, fought through a knock, controlled the defense nicely.

Setterfield - Great to get another game into him, looks rusty at times, but is crucial for us given he allows Cripps to drift forward. Has no problem finding the ball, gets his arms free in a tackle, and was nice to see him drift forward and kick a goal.

Plowman - Had a shocker today but still feel he's a crucial member of our backline, with his flexibility to play both tall and small. Disposal is awful at times so needs to trust those around him more.

Dow - Had the fumbles today but otherwise loved his game and his effort. Just does a few things here and there, that make you go wow - we may not see it consistently in 2019, but he'll be a beauty.

Garlett - Has improved week on week in a new role, which is all you can ask for. Don't like him leaping into contested marking situations but do think he has something to offer with his drive out of defense. Not my preferred option but think he's done enough to be there against the Tigers.

Phillips - Competed really well in the centre of the ground, but was completely outclassed around the ground, as is to be expected. I'm comfortable taking him into round one where he'll have a big task competing with Nankervis who can impact around the ground.

Gibbons - Quiet one today after a terrific showing last week, has he done enough for a spot in the round one side? Not sure, but will deservedly be in the conversation.

McGovern - Clearly very unfit at the moment, as is to be expected after his preseason injury. Will take him a while to build up again but can still be dangerous and I'd play him in the senior side for round one. Some of the overreaction on here in relation to the price we paid for him, on the back of his preseason performances, is completely absurd.

Polson - Had no impact vs Hawthorn or Essendon, but thought he was good today, clearly his best performance of the year to date. Was far more involved, applied terrific pressure, but disposal let him down. Reckon he's there come round one for sure.

Newman - Very quiet today, 4 kicks is not enough for a player with his skills. Seemed to play a more defensive role today, and showed he's no slouch in that department, but want to see him more involved and I am sure we will.

Kerr / Stocker - Didn't see any game time, I'm not sure why we'd bother including them rather than giving them full games at VFL level.

I’m still trying to get over Roos comments that Walsh should play maybe 12 games and the rest in the VFL because Tom Mitchell. Even if we were the best side in the competition, Walsh would be playing round 1.

It has some merit, but I dare say he'd be in 15 - 20 game bracket this year.
