Booing is neanderthal behaviour, but crowds like to do it, so whatever.
Much like Izzy and his contract - was quite simple for both to not publicly state their opinions. But they did, and doing so publicly opens you up to criticism.
There are those that agree with them, and those that don't.

Personally, this is all avoidable if we could check our beliefs at the door and try and be nice to people even when we don't like them until it gets to a point behaviour needs to be pointed out and stopped.
Intolerance and persecution breeds hate, hate breeds violence. None of it is needed.

He brushed it off in the interview with Abby Holmes. If he's happy to do so, good on him. I reckon it's been a lesson in what the general public will tolerate these days.
And picking on groups within society whose behaviour hurts no one (though i'd argue drunks do pose a bit of a threat at times) isn't really up to scratch.

Ablett put himself at the mercy of the public when he chose to support a hatred-inciting social media post. If that’s his version of ‘free speech’, he should have no problem with people voicing theirs about him.

I hope you took the same stance over Adam Goodes who repeatedly chose to focus on only one half of his ancestral roots and showed a willingness to claim he was a victim of racism in a society which has provided him with enormous power and privilege. Like Gazza, he must understand that such a public stance was bound to cause friction and hurt and he should have been willing to face the consequences. Perhaps all those Gazza haters didn't boo him over his support of Folau, but simply because they hate bald men. Who can read the minds and motivations of thousands of people?

True, but as I said, many sections of many religions still believe and teach homosexuality is a sin. Followers of these faiths may not express it in the public domain, but the view is still there.

Well it is a case of a person can have horrible views, and if those views are kept to themselves then they will not suffer the consequences of those horrible views. If however that person says those views out loud then while they may not be in any trouble from a legal standpoint it means everyone knows what that persons views are now and everyone else can use their free speach to attack those views.

All of us already knew Ablett was super religious, but it wasn't until we learned for sure that he was also homophobic that people started genuinely speaking out against him as a person. No one could ever doubt Ablett's playing ability, but what most of us are doubting now is his quality as a person, because right now he looks to be a truly ugly person on the inside.

I am not sure how Geelong fans feel but if a Swans player expressed views like that I honestly would want them gone. I would not be able to cheer for them.

Ever since Goodes spoke out we have seen more and more Aboriginal players refuse to accept racism in crowds. Plenty of fans have been banned for racism in recent years because players, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal have spoken out. Goodes helped make speaking out more okay, more accepted.

If you search BF there is thread after thread on here about what a flog Goodes was well before his stand against racism. People dont like being told who they can support and who they cant. Once booers were labeled racists it was always going to explode

He only said they would not enter a heaven HE and followers of his religion believe in. Yes, choosing social media to express those views is insensitive, but if he was asked in an interview should he deny the beliefs of his own faith?

He said that all gay people (and a lot of others) are going to hell and that is an important distinction than just saying they were not going to heaven



Whether you believe in hell or not (I personally don't) does not matter as Folau and Ablett do, and since they do believe in it by posting this, or liking it, they are saying that they want the above groups to go to hell, they want the above groups to go to a place where they will experience unimaginable pain and suffering for eternity.

To me, wanting that for almost anyone is pretty close to evil.

Why, there's no equivalency between inciting hatred online and calling out racism against you like Goodes
