It was at this moment the young, idealistic, and ambitious Whateley said to himself.....”If ever I’m fortunate enough to have my own radio show I will use John Farnham’s You’re The Voice as my theme tune....”

The worlds gone mad when it falls to Dermie to be the voice of reason. Good on him though, the only one who bothered to think from the fans perspective.

David King did too

Response by footy’s elite to booing controversy is a little rich
Eddie McGuire, Nathan Buckley and anyone else pointing fingers at fans for booing on ANZAC Day need to have a good look in the mirror.

Buckley also contradicted himself by wanting fans to control their emotion during a presentation ceremony when he failed to curtail his.

Magpies president Eddie McGuire, while making it clear the Bomber fans weren’t targeting Pendlebury or his club, said it was time to “get past booing” and “get it out of the game”.

Worth a read.
Eddie who thought that Goodes could be used to promote King Kong the musical is now dictating the standard of a good society to the general population now.
I mean it's not like that comment was even a one off for him he has doubled and tripled down since then, probably more if I could be bothered to look into it. Maybe after his recent slip he just lets this one slide or passes it in to someone else to be fake outraged about it.
Meanwhile we should all support GAJ in spreading intolerance and ignorance because he is entitled to his free speech.
Regardless of your thoughts of booing in general or a specific times the general lack of insight or simple understanding and finding a worst case scenario to be outraged about by the media is remarkable

He's getting paid $500k a season, I'd be crying in my car too, just not from mental stress.

Hope he's over it now and in a better mental space.
I think getting paid more just makes you *feel* worse. At least for many people it does.

Definitely beats getting paid **** all and not being able to afford basic sbit though.

It certainly can. I have a feeling Mayne was suffering from imposter syndrome which makes sense being in a new club environment and being paid quite well.

The first thing most people know about Australian politics is that the people are pretty racist and we killed all the aborigines.

Technically, it was the British who killed all the aborigines.

I am going to sleep. I hope I can have some good news in the morning.

That is by a long way not the best part of that article. Jerker steps in and takes the cake.

Forward Josh Jenkins is yet to push his way back into the side after being dropped ahead of the Crows' 73-point win over Gold Coast.

Jenkins revealed in a media interview last week that he made his displeasure known to Pyke in a phone call between the pair when he was informed that he had been dropped.

Pyke said he had no issue with Jenkins making the details of that conversation public.

The key forward will play in the SANFL again on Saturday.

"He's really clear in terms of what he needs to do, and last week he was solid without being outstanding," Pyke said.

"He was after some clarity around the why, and that's fine. We had a good conversation, and now it's about performance getting back into the team.

"That's Josh's decision (to make that conversation public), and the reality was it was a conversation between a player and a coach."

I'm shocked that Jerkins is apparently so bitter about being dropped when during the week before that game he was all over SEN forecasting that very possibility (as well as throwing half his team mates under the same bus). Sound like Jerkins has lost the coach - he's in the leadership group so that could easily become toxic.

Andrew Faulkner of the Australian (Adelaide based) has found that great twitter site Aussie Rule Infographics
https://twitter.com/AussieRulesInfo

that try and adjust for pre AFL ie pre 1990 footy records to reflect that there wasn't a national comp before 1987. The 3 transition season of 1987-88-89 seem strange to be ignored and if you want true national comp it should be 1991 when SA had a team not just a name change.

Anyway hear is his article and graphic that went with it.

Soon after the VFL adopted its AFL alias in 1990, it set about shanghaiing Australian football’s history. So much so that the game’s records — games played, goals kicked, attendances and suchlike — are routinely “VFL/AFL” statistics. When the outer states joined the national competition, they did so at the cost of their heritage. But from a secret base way out west, one footy boffin is fighting back. Operating under a cloak of anonymity — no doubt in fear of the AFL dispatching a pacification team to Perth from its Docklands HQ — the statistician is de-AFLing the AFL. Or rather putting the A back into AFL. He (although it might be she, such is the security surrounding the heretic) is crunching data to create national “first-class” football records on a Twitter feed.

“The code becomes a much more compelling proposition when presented as a national sport, not just a Victorian one,” Aussie Rules Infographics told The Weekend Australian yesterday. Under the first-class football method — the term first-class being appropriated from cricket — state competition records count until the AFL’s formation. “These competitions were the premier sporting competitions in their respective states until unequivocally superseded by the evolution of the VFL into the AFL.” So the post-1989 state league records are set aside in favour of the AFL numbers.

“Our code is far richer than just the VFL. Everything before the AFL was amateur and semi-professional anyway. Every player had a job. The standard between states was not significant enough to completely ignore the rest of the country outside Victoria.” Indeed, as Aussie Rules Infographics shows through its tables. Western Australia, for example, is the land of the spearheads. Four of the top 10 sharpshooters (goals per game) are from the west. Unsurprisingly, no contemporary players come close to the five-goal-plus averages of South Australia’s Ken Farmer, Tasmanian-cum-Victorian Peter Hudson and Essendon legend John Coleman. That the league’s leading goalkicker is presented with the Coleman Medal underlines how the AFL is essentially a rebranded VFL. “VFL/AFL records to the exclusion of everything else is revisionist history,” Aussie Rules Infographics says. “The VFL was a suburban amateur/semi-pro state comp for its entire existence until the mid-1980s.

“Conflating the national competitions with it are disingenuous and born out of parochialism. Include everything or only include AFL from 1990.” Lance Franklin has just passed Matthew Lloyd to go to the top of the goal tally for the AFL era (1990 onwards). But under the first-class criteria, Franklin is 16th.

If WA is the domain of the spearhead, South Australia is the land of the long tooth. The games-played list has three Croweaters in the top five. Craig Bradley’s 98 games with Port before he was recruited by Carlton count in his overall tally, taking it to 473.

Has anyone outside of Anthony Miles and Jack Hombsch played for both GWS and GC?
