Wreck it Ralph reckon we could put Cunners or BBB on the table.

What drugs is he on?

No doubt there’d be players weighing up their future after this.

They so conveniently seem to forget that his development of young players has been abysmal.

There is one person to blame for his demise, and that is himself.

This poor Brad narrative is a ******* joke.

How many other clubs would have given the bloke 10 years to build a team to truly contend?

They also forget his mantra of not trading draft picks to ensure a period of sustained success. When we were challenging that was the narrative. Fast forward a couple of years and we’re throwing massive money at everyone as the wheels were falling off. In hindsight that’s when the writing was on the wall, he was coaching to survive.

This whole ‘North can’t afford to bottom out so he could never properly rebuild’ is rubbish. We have one (in my completely biased opinion) of the most educated fan base in the league, we will stick fat during a rebuild. s**t our membership will probably grow next year.

There has not been one genuine A grader that has been drafted and developed during the Scott era. Hard to contend without any genuine elite players.

Do people forget that in 2010 that Goldy, B10, JZ, Cunners and Sammy W were young players? By 2014/15 playing Finals.

Whose to say what Jy, Jed, LDU and co will bring come 2020/21?

I think 2021 is the year we should be aiming for a real resurgence. I think our 21 and under talent is as good as we've had for many years.

LDU, TT, Zurhar, Larkey, Will Walker, Taylor, Bailey Scott, Jai all look like they have a real future to me. Others like Crocker, Watson, Xerri, Hayden and Murphy could also prove to be quality players.

Are you reading from the same media handbook?

I am agreeing with you. I blame Scott for not drafting and developing elite talent. he has been in charge, the buck stops with him. I am sure if you went back through every draft there would be multiple elite players we could've had but missed out on.

Kingys comments about Shaw and our list was simply a big F you to Scott....

Well Shaw better produce the goods or King will come of looking like a goose. Remember this is a bloke that said he rather Carlton's list than Collingwoods after 3 rounds last year.

Yep..hes had a shocker or 2...I reckon given the opportunity Kingy would like to erase a few of his comments from the past month or so.

Exactly why we have to go young.

No doubt we have to hit the draft, but we don't need to go down the Melbourne, Carlton route and get rid of the majority of the 27+. We've got to make the most of free agency to pick up some decent 25-26 year olds, while also bringing in the kids.

* when I'm taking about free agents, I'm not talking about Martin, Kelly etc. I'm talking more value for money types.

The bitterest article by a losing fan you could ever read:

https://themongrelpunt.com/afl/2019...FZRJqply5wHFDCkuSKANCi2rxryhjiwQE0wOPpD9xnusM

Just some of the excrement contained within:

"Sir Doug Nicholls Round celebrations took a backseat as every possible connection to North Melbourne – Kelli Stevens, the family of the turn of the century butcher responsible for the Shinboners nickname, that elephant that would roam Arden St at half time joined in the team circle and celebrated an unconvincing victory and an unconvincing farewell to their senior coach."

"English, despite ending up with less hitouts than his back up in Zayne Cordy, still managed to account for nine score involvements to Goldstein’s five. Goldstein failed to register a single contested mark, any mark inside 50, a centre clearance (Grundy had four in a midfield stacked with centre clearance specialists) and just the one one-percenter for the day." So English was more influential on the game than Goldy with 28 possessions and 57 hitouts.

"Where do North see Jed Anderson’s future? He was heroic and ferocious at the contest, and constantly putting his body on the line on numerous occasions in the frantic final quarter. For the other three, he seemed very content to rack up nothing possessions that went backwards, and play out a hard-man image off the back of cheap acts on younger players. "

"Daniel, for mine, was best on ground. The bloke is <170cm and took NINE intercept marks today, which ranks as one of the most incredulous stats you’ll see all year." Seriously, he thinks a guy that was playing loose in defence, the easiest role in football, was best afield.
Stupid people don't recognise that they are stupid. That's embarrassing.

I'd read so much commentary about the dearth of mid-age players at North that I'd taken it as a given. However, today I decided to check it out for myself. For me, a mid-age player would range from 23 to 27. Fair? So, I checked our squad:-

Jed Anderson - 25
Shaun Atley - 26
Ben Brown - 26
Tom Campbell - 27
Ben Cunnington - 27
Trent Dumont - 23
Taylor Garner - 25
Nathan Hrovat - 24
Ben Jacobs - 27
Jamie Macmillan - 27
Luke McDonald - 24
Jared Polec - 26
Kayne Turner - 23
Ed Vickers-Willis - 23
Marley Williams - 25
Mason Wood - 25

Am I the only one here that thinks that's pretty solid overall?

You are missing Dom Tyson.

Cunnington about to turn 28 and the clear standout. BBB also a very, very good player. Some of the rest of them are okay but not one of them is an A grader or elite. We only have one player on our list who is 22 this year and 6 on the list have been bought in from other clubs. That represents a very poor return over a period of five drafts. Our group would be well behind pretty much every other club in that demographic.

Well Shaw better produce the goods or King will come of looking like a goose. Remember this is a bloke that said he rather Carlton's list than Collingwoods after 3 rounds last year.

Not sure that's right. Define Shaw producing the goods? The fact that we have parted ways with our coach suggests the club has accepted this season is cooked from a meaningful run at finals point of view. I would task and judge Shaw on three key areas:

1. System - instilling a game plan that is competitive against the best teams, that the players understand and buy into, and that the group gets better at executing as the season progresses.
2. Standards - there is clear set of non-negotiables for all players whether they have played one game or two hundred and fifty.
3. Development - the young players on the list are given experience at senior level and we get a proper assessment on the potential of each of them to become quality AFL players.

Any wins that come along are more of a bonus.

I still think our team is good and are dangerous when they click.
Going down a rebuild is hard to think about when we play the way we have been.
Really, really good or disgustingly lazy.

When we have basic fundamental improvements in; mental endurance, repeat efforts, ability to man up or create space, it shows how good this can be.

It's a shame Scott and the team lost Jacobs and Daw, endured all those injuries to developing kids. We had what once looked like a healthy spine, completely dissembled. However, with all the injuries and those two blow out games, we're sitting at 14th with 2 wins away from the rest of the group.

I can't help but think if Scott really wanted to back himself and his team both on and off-field, he would have gone down swinging until the end of the year.

That's fair enough now, Val. However, would you not accept that ten years ago, maybe, it would have been a very dodgy proposition for us to bottom out? Remember, the "should have gone to Gold Coast" mantra was a particular noose around our neck back then? We have made massive gains on the financial side of things since those dark days when the club was struggling under massive debt. It's very easy to forget that now, isn't it. Imagine if we'd done a Carlton or a Melbourne? Do you think we'd still be in a position to have the crack at the coaching/administration that we're having now? Let's not forget James Brayshaw and Eugene Arocca in all this. Their major focus was getting the club solvent again. They brought Brad, specifically, in to help out with that focus. We even managed to turn Caroline Wilson around, for heaven's sake! I know, every now and then, I regret that we didn't nab a couple of really early draft picks over the duration. Then, I remember the past realities. Ben Buckley is in now and he's made his move. It's time to focus on the future rather than thrashing the past, as far as I'm concerned. I prefer to remember the great finals wins over Richmond, Geelong, Essendon and Sydney. Brad gave us W80, Higgins and All Santo. Did I mention that Brad gave us W80???
