Dale Thomas will retire with his name on a Carlton locker when his career comes to a close in 10 days’ time.
Thomas will play his 100th game for Carlton against St Kilda on Saturday and is expected to announce his retirement at a retirement press conference on Friday as part of that milestone.

Personally I think Daisy deserves another year, on form & his mentoring role for the younger players.

I am happy if the Blues feel confident that Doc/Williamson can take Daisy’s place next year but given their injury history and Daisy’s solid form I think it’s a bad gamble. Plus Daisy could play forward next year should the aforementioned get their bodies right. The small forward we desperately seek may be sitting under our noses (although a stopgap given his age).

Adelaide's first (10) and our third (40) for Martin and Brisbane's first (16) could be worth exploring. Values Martin around Pick 25. Might need a little sweetener going back to GC, but not too much - future pick swap or a fringe player.

If we're making random cause/effect assumptions - Coniglio leaving dramatically reduces GWS' chances of a flag next season, so maybe he's told the club he's going and Deledio has decided there's no flag to hold out for next year.

Occam's razor - Deledio has managed 31 games in three seasons with the giants. Most likely scenario is he's come to the conclusion his body won't last another season.

Could be cat an mouse stuff too with GWS and SOS. ie we'll make way to find money to keep Cogs.

But, I clearly remember someone stating it around trade period last year.
I can't recall who said it, but I recall it being a poster with credibility.
They never said Coniglio, they just said rabbit and that we were chasing, and we were a decent chance.

This likely has been a multi-year chase.

I bet there is a good chance that Crippa has already spoken with Cogs.

Coniglio is a heart and soul player, his leaving GWS will really set that club back, the AFL CEO knows it, but he is powerless here.

Sounds pretty definitive, I think Browne said a press conference has been arranged by Carlton tomorrow, with Daisy the speaker...that can only be to announce his retirement.

It's sad because he's playing so well, if we were contending or he was 2 years younger he'd be staying and best 22 in 2020.

Thomas not having his contract extended smells a little fishy, are we clearing the decks for a big fish. I’m a big fan of Dale, I hope he gets another year but I hope that if we don’t offer him another, it’s because we have a replacement or plan lined up.

Why so much love for Darcy Cameron? Would Archie Smit not be a better option?
Cameron can’t get a game at Sydney, who are 15th with no number1 ruck ahead of him, whilst Smith is behind a really good ruck and playing in a side that’s challenging.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Smith vs Cameron?
