The number of possessions is completely irrelevant. Its what you do with your possessions that is far more important to the team. Give me a 15 possession player with hurt factor every day of the week over a 25+ possession stats padder.

At a micro level (player on player yes).

But overall to control the contest and stop teams scoring quickly you need players that can put their hands on the ball consistently. This is why you need 25+ possession mids.

Perhaps you could shed some light on him. Is he injured?

Because, if not, I would hope he comes very cheap. Drafted as a 21 year old and has had 3 years on the Swans list for one game. Unless injured he sits behind (judging by their team selection) Alir Alir (at 195cms) and Mclean (a 20yo rookie at 197 cms). Hard to see him being any upgrade on Phillips on the surface.

They were only playing Aliir lately because Cameron was/is injured.

Ruck who can go forward if needed. Highly rated, talented and coming into the age bracket where rucks start to blossom. Question is less whether he is an upgrade on Phillips next season and more whether he will be in 2-3 years when Matty is done.

This was PM'd to me and the poster would like to remain anonymous:-

Papely - No chance 2 x 1 st round draft picks.
Grundy - Zero Chance.
Cameron (Darcy) - Locked In.
Martin - Locked In.
These two above will happen VERY early in the trade week.
Cogs - more and more likely still a bit to play out.
B Crouch - 65% there, for Carlton the final decision will be made by Russell and his confidence to get his body right.

What a lovely way to start my BF day..........

If he's been injured that may allay my concerns.

Problem is you can only have so many high possession one way midfielders that don't pay any respect to their opponents. Don't think Crouch is what our midfield needs.

I doubt GC would get a 7 spot upgrade and pick 40 for Martin. To me that is totally unacceptable if I am the Suns. I think maybe our firsth next year with a third coming back? I wouldn't pay that but I think they will ask it. Though perhaps Martin is so on the nose they just want him gone. We can hope.

WOuld the Crows take 17 for Crouch? I would have thought they would want a top 10 pick.

I don't mind trading out of this draft. It is supposed to be average.

Values Martin around 25, which looks right to me. They may want more, and I'd be happy to throw in a fringe player or two if they want some more mature depth. Lang and/or Polson can head north and see what they can make of their careers. Presuming that GC will put more value in high picks as well, another top 10(ish) pick would be appealing.

Crows might not want to take 17 for Crouch, but if they're shopping him around they may not get what they want. Good player, not elite, injury history - he's a mid/late first rounder for mine. GWS got the equivalent of a third rounder for Devon Smith in amongst the pick swapping, and there's some similarities there. 17 for Crouch is, in my view, a pretty reasonable deal if Adelaide want to clear some space.
