If we bring in Martin, Papley and Butler I can't see much game time going forward for Matty Kennedy, should the club and himself look at involving him in the Martin trade? He'd get regular game time up there. Does Kennedy and one of our later picks get it done?

Nah, happy to keep Bam Bam. As Richmond have shown, you can never have too many of these types.

Despite the relative abundance of decent medium/tall defenders we have, this year alone has shown that there were depth problems due to injuries. Not sure we can afford to let one the quality of Marchbank go. It's good the Swans are interested, because it shows they are keen to get a trade sorted, but we should make it happen without losing someone we really need to keep until it's absolutely necessary.

100 percent this. Marchy has shown way more than Willo. Despite the first 2 games he also played every game till he fractured his neck which makes me think Russell has his body sorted. Macreadie can't get a game, Willo's body is a serious concern, people assume Doc will be a walk up start despite not playing a game in 2 years, Levi could be out the door, No Daisy, Simmo probably in his last year, Goddard awfully slow...I wouldn't be rolling the dice on someone of Marchy's quality

If Sauce had a medical at Carlton, then that suggests 3 things to me;
a) we'd rather Jacobs as a short term fill in for TDK. (Something I suggested months ago).
b) we are no longer chasing Cameron, or see him only as a steak knives deal.
c) Casboult will choose GC

If Casboult is staying I can't see why we would put Sauce through a medical.

Is anyone else worried by what * might do with picks 4 and 8? That’s a fair bit of ammunition and I don’t see them hitting the draft that hard. Wonder who they’re after?
I'm not worried, they can do what they like, we will get the players we are after, and don't really care what anyone else does with their list or picks.

Knowing Dodo, he will just waste them on Vanilla Half Back Flankers anyway.

Not so sure. 4&8 might shake loose a Grundy or a Fyfe. Dopers aren’t that far off contending.

Or given the age demographic of their list, they could easily fall off a cliff.

I don't think either of those players makes them a contender. I'd be staggered if Grundy didn't lock into Collingwood and they'd surely want to make him their most expensive player he's that pivotal.

A lot. They'd want pick 8 easy if we enquired.
i reckon a pick 8 swap would be fair
Out: Marchbank, Pick 8

In: Laird, Papley

.... yeah, I'd probably consider it.

Two All-Australian HBF'ers in Docherty and Laird.
laird - martin - docherty
with SPS rotating through 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

If given the opportunity I’d give any and every opposition player a medical.

1. You never know what’s going to happen be prepared
2. If you don’t take him, he goes somewhere else, you might eventually be playing against him and have a great idea where his body is at
3. Chat to him, he might let something slip about an opposition team or one of his current teammates that might come in handy

Apparently Whatley said on SEN that Norf would have gotten pick 9 as FA Compo if Goldstein left. Although I think that is nonsense, massive lol to Norf it was true:)

^^ before you go jumping on the sheep. The draft pick rules are apparently an issue because we are apparently after another decent player that may need a first involved.
Could it be that if we use our first round pick this year (the Adelaide one, say on Papley) then we need a second round pick this year as we currently don’t have one?

We are ok as I understand it to use either our first round pick or our second round pick next year on a trade, but not both (unless we get another first or second round pick back).

Thats just crazy.

He's 31 years old. Despite his salary there is no way they could have been given band 1 compensation.

Don't think anyone, even Brisbane, were expecting a top 2 finish.

GC would have been hoping for a top 10 pick, which is understandable. That's the nature of future pick trading - forecast where you think clubs will end up, but take the risk that they overperform and make you look a bit silly. On the flip side, a few injuries to key players at Brisbane and it could have been a top 5 pick for two early seconds and a pick in the 40s.

From memory, the trade was very lopsided?

Ie there were far fewer scenarios where GC would win the trade vs Brisbane winning the trade. Like 15/85 kind of outcomes...

How does he work that out when the AFL don't even have a formula for compo picks?

Small forward for a key defender - yeah nah .....well I'll leave it at that!
Small fwd who's just kicked 37 goals in a bottom four side, about to hit his prime, never played less than 20 games in a year and plays in a position we desperately need quality in - against a key defender, albeit young young and talented, with injury issues and averages about 14-15 games a year.... I'll take the small fwd.

Context is important here. The 'key position players are more valuable than smalls' mantra can't be applied to every situation...
