They (trade radio) asked if the first this year and first next year would do it Wells said no
This is interesting.

All the back and forth between us and the Eagles fans is just amateurish speculation.

Wells actually does this for a job. Based on his substantial knowledge, understanding and experience, if he is able to say that the first this year and next from WC is not enough, then it is likely that he is able to say this with confidence and have a strong negotiating positioning.

He's not a Dodoro type list manager. He doesn't make outlandish statements. He just goes about it quietly.

I think you are hearing something different to me... he is just playing the media game...

WCE are well aware that Danger was a FA and we could have just offered huge money that the Crows couldn’t have matched. Won’t have much impact on the trade apart from external noise.
The only people who are swayed by these fickle arguments are supporters. The professionals are aware of how exactly everything went down and if they brought up some of these ridiculous arguments that the media run (just to keep us engaged), then they'd be laughed out of the room.

He is and he isn't. He'll look foolish if he says its not enough and then has to accept it.

So if he's saying it's not enough, he has a realistic alternative to bank what he thinks is a fair deal for Kelly.

Gaz made the AA squad this year, had double the inside 50s of Rozee, 40 more score involvements, had 130 more kicks.

I agree that Rozee is about as good as it gets from the draft, but even he doesn’t get close to Gaz.
Take Rozee aside Ablett had a good year but failed in a lot of ways when it mattered, made errors turned the ball over a fair bit and at times lacked an impact, we brought Ablett from GCS to make an impact when it matters in big games, i hope he improves next year....

I sometimes find it a bit funny when recruiters get a bit too cute with these natural forward types and dismiss many of them...
Gyran Miers is a perfect example, how he slipped to us with Pick 57. A bit silly imho. Kicking +50 goals, +7 in a GF to win the game... should never have slipped so low.
Yes agree. A strange one that one. It seems recruiters & clubs want raw athletic ability before football nous . Football smarts totally underrated and obviously not tested at combine.

Don’t underestimate fogarty. His year was cooked due to injuries and shouldn’t be judged on it.

Give him a big pre season and you will start to see what he can do. As a junior he was a high possession winning aggressive tackling midfielder with good decision making.

He cops a very underserving spray on here. I rate him and can tell the coaches do also from the games his first year they gave him.

Draft year he averaged 25 disposals per game as a midfielder and 10 tackles per game.

Those are some impressive stats. Something our midfield lacks is the aggressive tackling exhibit. Him and cockatoo could really shake things up in that area next year

Wouldn’t mind seeing him come along as a first round pick. Probably lacks some pace, so he , selwood & constable wouldn’t work. But agree he needs to be given a chance this year in the middle at times.

Unfortunately he has to be a role player now with obvious smarts. Impact needs to come from the next crop. Hopefully they don’t bow down to the little master too much. The miers, Fogarty, cockatoo, Atkins etc need to be the impact players now.

Wells on trade radio:

- St Kilda will set the market for Steven and we will decide whether we are in

- No Jenkins (tight TPP)

- no interest in any other ruckmen after missing Goldstein

- any Kelly picks likely to be taken to the draft
Surely a smokescreen regarding ruckman?

WELLS: After a strong period of neg. , and all things strong considered .. Geelong decided to think of the service Kelly has give us in the last two years... He has been outstanding for us.. while the deal agreed to is not what we feel he is worth , in fact a long way short of that... we will do as we always do try to act in the socially responisble way ..thinking of more than just a player but him as a person. There is no dispute at all that the Tim has his hands full off-field and in some ways we can totally understand that inspite of all that we have attempted to do .. that they still need more. Tim will always be welcome at Geelong , there is absolutely no animosity and we wish him all the best ... the down side unfortuetly is we have just given WestCoast the biggest free kick possible with a player we rate as in the best 22 in the comp.
Int: So you are not happy with WC
WELLS: WC were as professional to deal with as anyone we have dealt with.. they acted in a totally professional manor and did significant work to try and get a better deal for us.. the fact is no deal probably replaces Tim .. but thats done now.. what more important is what we now have ..we look forward to the draft.. and the chance to bring in 3/4 players inside 25 ... it will be the first time we have done that since 2001 .. and there is talent in this years draft no doubt.
Int: so how do you fill the huge hole that Kelly will leave..
WELLS: We have in part anticipated this outcome as a possibility.. we played younger group thru the middle last year grooming our young players.. and we have strong confidence in these guys are ready to step up... plus others on our list and don't forget the last two years we have added players from the draft straight to our best22... and now this deal is done ..we will move onto other possible deals.. sorry thats the end... I have a meeting with Stk arranged to start in 10 minutes...

My thoughts are that we've kept Taylor and Ablett on because Kelly has gone (announcements made once Kelly trade was known). I still think Wells is just being tactful re: Jenkins, rather than just dismissing him completely out of hand and seeming arrogant.

Like fun you are, think l've given plenty of reasons why and stats to back it up.
You've got your own mind made up, so have l.

So I'll take that as a no and dismiss your ridiculously emphatic opinions accordingly. You don't know jack if you haven't seen them live. If you think stats give you a realistic picture then you have no idea how recruitment works!

Further to that point. I unlike you have seen them live and work in the industry so I can tell you what is important and what isn't. Your assessments aren't and rarely are on this particular stuff. Have you heard of Mitch Grigg by the way?

There is a real possibility that we have another big fish lined up and that is why the cap is tight or Wells is possibly keeping a spare 800k-1m free in case Gaff decides he wants to come to us, I still wouldn't be surprised if we got Jenkins in the last hour of the trade period for peanuts if nobody wants him.

He said he was willing to play for significantly less. Rumoured to drop to 200k.

Yet no one wants the tosser. Might end up as a rookie lol.

Nah if he doesn't get picked up he will stay at Adelaide and get his 700k even if it means playing in the SANFL. He is contracted until 2022 so he doesnt have to do anything really because Crows cant just get rid of him.
