Ah right, cheers - I clearly don't understand the system like I thought I did! They'd have to match with six but any points surplus would net them an extra pick later in the draft.
Likely Essendon has pick 5 - they need a big bodied mid.
Is that right or is it next available pick and then they’d get a late pick back for the extra points. For some reason I’m thinking it’s the latter but could be wrongThe 20% discount means they wouldn't need to match with pick 6. A bid would need to come at pick 3 for that.
Yeah ignore me sorry, I'm wrong. Read up on Mofra's post.Is that right or is it next available pick and then they’d get a late pick back for the extra points. For some reason I’m thinking it’s the latter but could be wrong

Don't think it works like that. If someone bids at 5, they have to use their next available pick (if they match) and get lower picks back as change. The 20% discount means they wouldn't need to match with pick 6. A bid would need to come at pick 3 for that.
They would lose pick 6 though, as the points would be taken from that to match the bid then the leftovers would see GWS slide back into the draft in the third (or whatever it equates to) round. The 20% discount means they wouldn't need to match with pick 6. A bid would need to come at pick 3 for that.

That’s why Sydney did their shady deal last year, right? Traded out their pick in the 20s for a future pick, used their now-next picks for Blakey, then traded back in to the 20s after the deal.
Yep - the AFL has now closed that loophole though. That’s why Sydney did their shady deal last year, right? Traded out their pick in the 20s for a future pick, used their now-next picks for Blakey, then traded back in to the 20s after the deal.
Simpson sucks and doesn’t fill a need. No thanks.
And I’m not interested in 13 and 32 for Bruce and 18.
If I’m freo, and st Kilda don’t include their 2020 first (which it sounds like they won’t), I just keep hill, the way geelong did with Kelly. Worked out ok for them.....
Can’t see how the deal gets done without the 2020 first because without it freo are accepting a pic that just gets burned on Liam Henry when they wanted to take 2 kids early and then use later picks on a Henry bid
Presume the St Kilda 2020 first is well and truly off the table. Don’t think St Kilda will put themselves in a position to sabotage a potential Ben King deal. Could be a stalemate this one unless Fremantle want a player. Acres is always linked back to WA. Maybe pick 12 + Acres + 2020 second?
Not sure. Felt like pick 6 was about on the mark
What value does a deal of 13 and 43 for bruce and 18 give to bruce?
Rather just give up pick 32 tbhPick 31
Our 3 x 3rd rounders equal 839 points.
Some teams need points - GWS (they'll have nothing after the first round), but Hawthorn, Port & Freo have second round picks
Hawks pick 30 (629 points)
Freo pick 26 (729 points)
Port pick 29 (653 points)
I would hope we're talking to each of those three about pick swaps.
Honestly I don't know why St.Kilda is so confident about getting Ben King.Presume the St Kilda 2020 first is well and truly off the table. Don’t think St Kilda will put themselves in a position to sabotage a potential Ben King deal.

Fremantle really doesn't need to trade him. His value isn't going to be any less than it is now next year either.Simpson sucks and doesn’t fill a need. No thanks.

The value is there but it's sort of irrelvant in this situation. It's all dependent on who we are targeting at the draft. If the player we are into is expected to be there at 13 but not 18, then we wouldn't really entertain that deal. What value does a deal of 13 and 43 for bruce and 18 give to bruce?
