Why wouldn't it be serious?
Both the club and management have denied they have ever entertained a trade to Carlton and both say, with just 2 days to go until the trade period ends, the Blues still neck deep in other trades and likely to have just a future first round pick to work with, that Wines is going to continue to Co-Captain Port in 2020.
So unless Port and Wines management are completely out of the loop, prepared to look f00lish by completely reversing their strident position within 24 hours or the rumour is not true.
I am confident it's the latter.
Looks like we're getting a fab four with Pittonet, Papley, Betts and Martin
Well done SOS.

Not sure it will change us all that much:
1. Pittonet - doesn't play if Kreuzer is fit
2. Betts - Will kick 20-30 goals but if we don't recruit a small fwd for him to mentor then a wasted opportunity
3. Martin - upside is massive but could be a bust quite easily
4. Papley - good get
Haha you'd have to be a pretty shit footballer for your highlights not to get people excited.

The centrepiece of the Kane Lucas highlight reel was a handball to advantage. Not even joking.
Exactly, so why are people still claiming the trade is on?If he was to say he wants to come it would cost us more than what we have to give. Hence the reason carlton turned the idea away.

It is also worth noting that Carlton, Port and Wines management have now denied the story is true.
Ast year Lang played 8 games for 5 goals, Polson played 3 for 1, Fasolo played 3 for 2, Garlett 2 for 0, Deluca 6 for 4, Kennedy 10 for 11 & Gibbons 21 for 16 so that is 52 games for 39 goals. I am tipping we get closer to 100 out of Martin, Papley & Betts.
- Betts is a 2 year max player so wont be around for when we are going for a flag
You are right they choose their words very carefully;Carlton have denied that Port or Wines manager made contact, Port has denied Wines has asked for a trade and Wines management has denied they made contact with Carlton. Clubs choose their words carefully. I have no doubt someone called Carlton out of the blue on Wines behalf to see if they would make a trade.
You are right they choose their words very carefully;
Port Adelaide;
“Port Adelaide is aware of recent media speculation relating to Ollie Wines’ future at the club.
“As a principle, the club is generally reluctant to respond to rumours involving its players throughout the AFL trade period.
“However, in this instance, given Ollie is the current co-captain of the club, Port Adelaide believes it is important to confirm that at no stage has Ollie requested a trade from our club.
“Equally, at no stage has Port Adelaide contemplated trading Ollie to any other club and he remains a required player.”
His manager
“These reports are completely untrue, Ollie is very happy at Port Adelaide, where he is captain and contracted for another three seasons.
“He certainly did not ask me to investigate the possibility of a trade and nor did I scope one out on his behalf.”
Both are incredibly definitive.
Even if the reports were true, and at some stage some random contacted the blues, the simple fact we don't have enough trade capital to secure a club captain with 3 years left to run on his contract (especially not with less than 2 days to go) to actually make the trade happen. So if Port haven't contemplated trading him, we don't have the capital to trade, Wines is very happy at Port and neither the club or Wines management has contacted the blues surely we can call this rumour dead.

I am saying that even if Wines approached us (strangely through a source that wasn't his manager), the ITK posters made it clear over a week ago we turned him down, both clubs and Wines manager have now stated the reports were untrue so clearly it would be impossible to do an about face in 24 hours and we simply don't have the capital or in fact the time to make a deal happen so it is clearly not happening now so the multiple people still posting we are a chance of getting Wines should move on.Are you seriously taking that press release to be more truthful than the multiple posters on here who get good information and say that it happened (including before it hit the press)?
Not according to multiple posters on the no discussion thread.It is a dead rumour that he is a chance of coming to Carlton - we hit it on the head. The story is a club captain has in a round-about-way made contact to make a move to another club. That's a big story

Again focusing on part, not the whole, time & currency are 2 factors - the others are definitive statements from all 3 parties involved that are incredibly hard to back away from and maintain credibility. On top of which we need the Papley deal to fall through which the same ITK posters are saying is unlikely and even if it did won't happen until late.There's plenty of time.
It won't happen due to the lack of currency (and perhaps fit), but that's a different thing. If Papley falls through, we would have the currency, and at least the potential, to do the deal.
