Definitely a major contingent on our board when something doesn't go Carlton's way

Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Ill take your word for it, it doesn't matter anyway, they wont draft him
Cochrane is using a proven management tactic. Make the other guy think you’re crazy enough to do anything

That makes sense. I don't think the AFL would penalise either team in this instance, though. In this case it would be tampering with the draft by artificially altering the draft pool
The apology was from the AFL - not quite Gil but close. Ultimately it means we get Martin for free and keep our picks, but as a reasonable & fair trading partner, it wasn’t our preference. We are always happy to pay a fair price.
They argued a future 2nd and 3rd were useless to them given the concessions they’d received, not bothering to consider that they could be packaged to move up. Truly bizarre behaviour.
Still a bit surprised that we had no plan to fall back on particularly after all the hints we were getting from ITK's about a mystery player but there doesn't (at least from the outside) seem that there was a lot of gettable options to replace Papley.
I'm still really disappointed that we de-listed Daisy, can never understand why we went so early on that and I'd love to see him rookied but that's a pipe dream as I reckon that is just too much humble pie for us to eat. Seems we may still be a little short in senior players who really were the main catalyst for our second half of the season.
Just my two bobs worth.
2 won’t happen because 1 will sort it out. The AFL won’t agree on a contract where a player doesn’t have to play that’s just ridiculous.1.
Melbourne draft him. He can refuse to sign a contract. They have to pay him whilst arbitration handles it.
2.
Melbourne draft him. He refuses to play. They have to pay him that year before trading or delisting or arbitration.
Martin has options. None are ideal or nice. But he has them. Risk is all on Melbourne.
Why would someone at Melbourne know Ollie's plans a year from now?

If this is true and it most likely is because we know how it works, it's a terrible look for the AFL as an organisation.
i.e. No one can really do their job because when it comes down to it, the AFL holds all the cards and if one doesn't do what the AFL tell them to do, then there will be repercussions but if you're a good little boy, then more 'favours' will come your way.
It's getting hard to take this whole thing seriously and someone/somehow has to put a spotlight on the blatant corrupt organisation that has hs now taken hold of what we called 'Our great sport' but maybe it's too late for that now, as once you've exposed yourself to crime it becomes the standard. Can't turn back.
They might. Huge, huge risk for them if they do.
We've done everything we could possibly do as a club if that occurs.
I think they'll steer clear. They had enough problems this season.
Nobody does but it’s better to look crazy than come out yesterday and say “No, we won’t take him in the PSD. Carlton can have him for free.”I'm not sure anyone in the industry is silly enough to actually believe him.

Today we talk DFA.I was on BF what felt like 24/7 over trade period
Then I was on BF all day yesterday to soak in all the fallout
What am I doing here today?

The AFL has to get involved. Forget about us fir the moment that redneck Cochrane can’t force a 24 year old uncontracted player to play for a club that he doesn’t want to play for and which he thinks, whether or rightly, has not allowed him to reach his full potential. At the very least Martin’s management should brief a barrister with expertise in restrictive trade practices to give an opinion About his prospects of having the relevant AFL rules declared invalid as an unreasonable, and therefore illegal, restraint on his trading rights.According to today’s article in TheAge, Suns intend to re-draft Martin in the PSD even if he puts a high $ value on his head. They say they are willing to shuffle payments with other players to stay under the cap.
I’m not sure how realistic this is for Suns to do and what scope they have with their Salary cap situation. But they are certainly playing hard ball all the way and Melbourne are apparently intending to swoop too in PSD (not sure if they could afford though).
Wonder how high the $ value would have to be to block Suns and Demons?
Think the mystery player was Wines. Hopefully we can get him in next year.
Daisy finished on a high, but is not going to help us improve IMHO. Looks old, slowing down, less agility and spring, etc. Time to find better not just for 2020 but for 2021+ Newnes, Sam Gray, Holman, etc. have more upside over those future years and potentially could come free...
I don't think we need to worry about Melbourne pinching Jack Martin, just from the player welfare perspective. He's made it clear he wants to get to Carlton and a large part of that is Eddie Betts mentorship, also his relationship with SPS has played a role as reported on here.
Bennell is priority 1. Let's make it happen.
