What seperates the 33rd vs 34th song for example?
How are you able to rate so accurately?

I divided them into tiers, and then sub-tiers, according to how much I like them.
That's kind of what I do for the song thread. Still, it must be hard to seperate to each place over 50 positions.
I'd find it hard, when down to that level, mood would have a big impact.

Oh for sure.

But when you've been listening to a band for over 35 years, the first tiers have sorted themselves anyway. From there it's just fine tuning. Over time a natural pecking order establishes itself.

When you put it like that, I suppose there are a few bands I could potentially do it for.
Problem is that I'm different now to what I was then, songs that had a great impact on me might not resonate as much anymore. I suppose it depends on the weighting you give them too.

Bingo. You listen to more of what you like most, and you like what you listen to more. Look at the bottom of the list - it's filled out by the remainder of songs on my favourite album of theirs, even though the top 5 is split over 5 different albums.

Yep. If I looked all of the Top 50 lists I did a couple of years ago I'd make changes to all of them.

Not too many, mind you, but a handful that change with my mood.

If only there was a third person to make their own top 50, we could make a definitive Song Contest 'Best of Oils' playlist out of the overall top 20 or 25 or so.
I can do others, but not the Oils.
