Didn't 'want' a senior assistant... because we've spent all our money on payouts to sacked, long term contracted duds and are too late to get anyone he'd really want anyway so have to hold off for 12 months.

We presented the low shelf options to him and he decided he didn't want any of them.

How about admit we're going through a major, ongoing off field overhaul and that it will take more than 12 months to put the new team together

I would not believe them if their message was the last paragraph either. I think that is wishful thinking on your behalf that we might be doing that. More likely the status quo will remain the status quo.

It amazing how some still think this level of cynicism is unfair. They are utterly untrustworthy.

What dunderheads we are, appointing a guy as coach who walked into a job that he considers a needless, waste of time role. If he had the power he'd have fired himself no doubt.

So, you've invented three options so far.

He doesn't want a senior assistant because he thinks their a waste of time.

We don't want to spend the money.

We only presented him with terrible options.

None of those make any sense.

A senior assistant will be a couple of hundred grand. They'll all be close to the same. It's a tiny spend of money, compared to the financial impact of a bad season.

Why couldn't it just be the logical thing - Nicks has just landed in the job, and no one who he would want to make a long term commitment to is available?

Wow. Massive overreaction in here . We are unlikely to be in a position to attract those that we might want this year. If that’s the case then I prefer to leave vacant and ratchet up the accountability on other coaches. The head of football is a priority though and must be filled soon

Having a tax doesn’t mean you can’t be under one year and over the next.

There is not flexablity built into the soft cap you go over you pay the Tax, there not banking or credits. it just a 100% tax.

It looks ugly when you simplify it...and Fagan promised the members that the Adelaide Crows would be industry leaders. How many other clubs run that thin on the ground in terms of numbers AND coaching talent. Nicks gets a pass as he is an unknown and I really rate Marty Mattner, but gee wizz, Godden is not inspiring and Hart has been a failure as a coach. Nicks also has no senior experienced head to turn too when things are not going his way in the coaches box

Edit: I wonder if Matthew Clarke might not be the guy to sit in as a senior assistant as he has coached the women's team and he is fairly well regarded and has been around a while

Carlton - 1 head coach, 4 assistants
Collingwood - 1 head coach, 4 assistants
Fremantle - 1 head coach, 4 assistants
Geelong - 1 head coach, 4 assistants
Gold Coast - 1 head coach, 4 assistants
GWS - 1 head coach, 5 assistants and a DoC.
Melbourne - 1 head coach, 3 assistants and a DoC
North Melbourne - 1 head coach, 3 assistants and a DoC
Port - 1 head coach, 5 assistants
St Kilda - 1 head coach, 4 assistants
Sydney - 1 head coach, 3 assistants
West Coast - 1 head coach, 5 assistants
Western Bulldogs - 1 head coach, 5 assistants

Few missing because I couldn't find updated lists for them, but most are around the same mark as us.
