Been at work, someone give me the run down of the night? Would be mucho appreciated.
Sydney bucked plaudits straight away by picking Stephens at 5.
We then went Henry, matched.
Then green, matched.
Then swapped our pick for 17 and 22 with gc.
Got Kemp.
Then swapped pick 22 and 55 for pick 20.
Picked philp. Expected to pick Robertson.

I will be honest, I have had a very rough evening health wise, nearly 2 hours ago I had a really bad panic attack (thought it was a heart attack) and the fine ambos had to come check me out, i am now okay, but this draft and the players and haul SOS trawled in did really lift my spirts and helped to erase the negative/fearful thoughts that were racing through my mind.

I cannot thank Mr Silvagni and the Carlton Football Club enough, this has been another wonderful night for the club, and was the placebo I needed the most. #GratefulElmer

A bloke with a bung knee and a mid nobody rated remotely close to the first round (wasn't even good enough for a mediocre Metro team).

Seems Carlton enough.

Finbar II tomorrow.
Kemp is as good a gamble as we could get at this point. Watch the Philp highlights on the AFL website. Tantalising.
I'm very happy with our haul and we can grab a forward with our later pick. And Martin coming in for free this week. In SOS we trust, if not f or much longer. Hope the rest of the team were taking notes.

Certainly looks quick, but from that highlights package he seems to lack power in his kicks. Hopefully that can improve with a couple of full preseasons. I’m wary of picking guys on speed alone. LOB is slowly coming along, but is proof that elite runners do not always make the best footballers.

Well, neither do shit runners either really. Not sure there's a correlation worth mentioning there.

Solid night's work.

Talk of a pick swap with Adelaide, presumably an attempt to grab one of Young or Serong. Suppose Adelaide wanted too much for us to agree to it.

Instead, forced Freo and GWS to pay up for their academy players, then flipped our pick anyway. Savage.

Kemp, a top 5 talent, slides to us at 17 due to his injury. Will walk through the door on Monday and have immediate support from Sammy Doc and Andrew Russell in rehabbing it. Best thing for him, and I fully expect he'll repay the faith with interest.

Clearly had pace in mind with the next pick, and looks a lot like Richmond had their pocket picked. We sneak in ahead of them, take Philp, they scramble and take Dow who is just a less clean, slightly slower version of the same.

Not fussed about passing on Robertson, for the same reason I'm not fussed about passing on Flanders. Think we need more dynamic players where possible.

Tomorrow night will be interesting. Won't be surprised if we package up 44 with a future third to buy back in to the second round for a specific player. Give me Taheny and I'll be chuffed.

Was it the "perfect draft" that saw us get every player we wanted? Nope. But with the way the other picks panned out, it looks like we've gotten on the front foot and addressed some needs anyway.

Pick 4 and some 3rd/4th rounders we didn't need for Stocker, Kemp and Philp. That's crafty.

Almost the perfect draft by SOS, sure we wanted De Koning, and just made the mistake of trading too early before seeing if Geelong took him, should have waited another 2 minutes.

Took a backup choice, but was not our first choice, could have kept later pick and maybe bundled with our next one to move around etc.

My perfect round was Kemp and Robertson, which I was almost sure SOS had pulled off - was praising him out aloud (seems I, like SoS went a little early as well).....

Oh well, we will just have to do the best with what we got !
Pretty unlikely that we wanted tall defender De Koning with Jones, Weitering, Marchbank, B. Silvagni and Goddard back there. Suspect that it absolutely went to S.O.S.'s plan.

Personally I would have picked Robertson.
Average kick or not, that kid is a footballer first, athlete second, and he's a damned good athlete.

I think a lot of teams will regret overlooking him and he will lead his new club as captain within 5 years. Massive team player. I also would have picked Dow instead of Philp but what the hell do I know.
I am thinking and hoping that Graham Wright will try to do a trade and get back into the draft early tomorrow night and snare Robertson before a bid comes on Finn.

I agree with you that a lot of clubs were spooked by his kicking skills the same way a lot of clubs were spooked about Worpol, but that turned out pretty well for us.

Kicking just isn't there, though he's an impressive player. I'd forgotten how bad it was until I sat down and watched a bit more of him.

I kept hearing he bolted 'late', so I'll defer to track watchers. I'll sit down and look at his NAB League footage in an hour or so. His kicking earlier in the season was patchy, but he looked a bit raw so perhaps he hadn't be training more along the lines of that which he played?

We had that pick before today, as it started out at pick 57. We're still going to use pick 67 at this rate (now 70).
I mean pick 22... wasn't hoping for much at 55

Other clubs gutless to bid on Tom Green and Henry earlier to make those clubs honest.
Of course SOS had to show all how it is done and bid on those to make those clubs honest.
Then he split our first pick into two other picks with Serong and Young not lasting to our pick 9.
He made the right call so brilliantly as I was a little scared Kemp could slide to a pick so deep in teen picks but SOS seems to read the order of others so well and indeed we still got Kemp and another pick to end night out with speed merchant.

Not everything is going to work out for someone who openly puts his balls on the line, but you're not going to get far not being able to.

SOS looked like a train wreck at around our pick, put the 'misfortune' behind him and got straight back onto the wagon and made good...really good.

You're not going to find these types so easily. If I wasn't pissed about him going earlier, I am now...
Nice to have you back, Harks.

SOS and co went to school on live trading in the NFL.

Some interesting reading that may explain the way we have gone the last 2 years.

Having all of our key positions filled helps in this regard to.

Live trading has probably come in at the right time for us as we can fill the less important positions with multiple mid range picks.

Freo fans are filthy with us :)

Funny how Lloyd was ex Freo and Sos ex GWS and who was bid on???

some major farkery going on here

Just a thought, maybe we picked up Philp as the alternative to Papley? Or maybe as a replacement for Betts when he hangs up the baggy shorts?

I thought if we picked up Robertson then we wouldn't go for Wines next year.
But now we picked Philp, I'm wondering if we leave Papley and potentially go after Wines?
