Any one of you campaigners who can look at this preseason ladder and tell me that we shouldn’t fold the club can meet me outside right now.

Carlton playing ducks and bloody drakes!

• Ainsworth one on one kicking practice with Rosa as everyone else practicing goal kicking

Recalling Rosa’s skills by foot (helicopter, flour bag punts) - this bit of information does not fill me with confidence for Ainsworth’s long term prospects at WCE.

I don't see a way in for Allen right now.

Gov/Barrass are locks and Schofield has given no reason for them to overlook him.

Won't take Branders' spot as he's not a winger.

NN/Bailey were too impressive together to overlook.

They would be reluctant to pick him ahead of Waterman, as that would be 3 KPFs (too stylistically similar) in the same team.

Waterman provides more of a point of difference .

He'll have to wait for a bit longer imo.
If fit (and that is questionable at best after missing such a chunk of preseason) he comes in for Waterman.

Sure, the role is slightly different, but I think we can cover Waterman's run with a rotation of Allen and Darling into the roaming role while the other plays CHF.

Ahh yes the coaches are geniuses when they agree with your point of view.

I think the coaches get a bit of respect when they win a flag.

I dunno, something about two seperate premiership coaches dealing with entirely different playing lists and still coming to the same conclusion 215 times in a decade is just a bit too much of a coincidence for me. I think I’ll take their word with more weight than “people who have an email account”.

I'm worried that if brander, sheed and redden are all in or around the.midfield we may lack the ability to chase.
Weve got some awesome offensive mids and id rather not use yeo in a purely defensive role.the way brander is being pushed this preseason i think redden could be on the outer

Would be no different to having Hutchings, Redden and Masten in the same side pace wise but Redden is a far superior player to Hutch in terms of skill and could play the defensive mid well if we need one.

Brander is no worse than all of them mobility wise either but offers a different dynamic on a wing. If he can get the k’s up I don’t see why it won’t, at the very least, be a breakeven on Masten and Hutch.

Not really sure we can fit Waterman. Even then it's a bit of a stretch for mine. That 3rd tall might get the call up because we don't have Rioli and Venables available.

Ahh so you don't know why he is picked you just blindly follow. Gotcha.

How nice it is when you can't defend your own viewpoint you just run to an authority figure to back you up.

Ooof. My stance on Masten is pretty well publicised, it’s only been the main point of contention on this board since Priddis retired. I know why he’s been picked, it’s been stated publicly many times why he’s picked, I’ve stated why I’m happy for him to be picked many times.

The Masten debate doesn’t need restarting, he’s retired, a 200+ game premiership one club player with his boyhood club. It should be celebrated but alas. For the sake of it though, since you’ve gone hard on the huge sweeping statements without providing any substance yourself, why don’t you tell me why you think Simmo and Woosha both consistently picked Masten if he’s such a liability?

Not once in a while. Not when injuries struck. Picked him over 200 times including on two Grand Final days. Why is that do you think?

I was hoping they might turn Redden into our tagger and then we don't need Hutchings.

Simple. We had no one else.

I have said this multiple times: Masten is the best of the worst. He is too good for WAFL but is fringe for AFL. We have been struggling for a full rotation of mids for years. Is it any surprise that once we got Kelly we dropped Masten quick smart?

With Kelly in Masten would be 100% in the WAFL. Whats the point of playing a 30 year old player in the WAFL?

And if you want an argument to authority so bad why didn't anyone pick up Masten for free this year? Even GC who want some senior players didn't touch him. I guess the other 17 AFL coaches and recruitment teams must not know better then a genius like you eh?

As of right now we have arguably the best midfield in the comp. If we have a fit NN, Shuey, Yeo, Kelly, Gaff, Sheed and Redden and we still struggle in the middle in 2020 then its not a talent problem, its a coaching one.

If this team can't make top 4 then maybe we need a bit of a shake up coaching wise.

We had nobody else for 12 years. In 12 drafts, trade periods, our own training and development - at no point could we come up with someone better?

215 times, a pair of Premiership coaches shrugged their shoulders and went “I guess he’ll do” and never thought to stop doing that and try someone else.

It’s certainly a take, I’ll grant you that.

Nobody ever claimed he was elite or some dynamic, game changing player. But my word, we should all be so lucky to be selected by an elite football team 215 times by default.

And if we had nobody better than this player, such that he got 215 games due to our dire lack of options, should the criticisms not fall on the players below him unable to break through? If he was as awful as some seem to think, I’d assume a decent WAFL kid would be worth a shot eventually?

Anyway. He’s retired with a flag and more appearances than all but 17 players in the history of the club. It’s a boring debate that died long ago, onwards and upwards.

Nice try.

He was good in 2012.

So its been about 7 years of meh. Strangely enough that conicides with a rather poor series of midfield drafts.

Sure some questions should be raised over those under him but the recruiting team needs to take some heat as well.

But yes keep spouting that games played number just further reinforces the idea that you don't think for yourself.

Isn't Masten being replaced by Brander?

Why tho? Hutchings has proven elite as a tagger and doesnt mind sneaking forward and kicking the odd goal too

If 7 years of meh for us results in 2 grand final appearances and 1 flag I'll take it.

I'd prefer more, but that is a pretty good result for the team.

At the end of the day, I could care less how many kicks, handballs or contested marks Masten got (the answer to the contested marks in 2018 is 1, which happened to be in the GF although he missed the set-shot) - the team result matters and he was a significant part of that.
