ATO will take into account year on year income variability:

‘Where a business was not in operation a year earlier, or where their turnover a year earlier was not representative of their usual or average turnover, (e.g. because there was a large interim acquisition, they were newly established or their turnover is typically highly variable) the Tax Commissioner will have discretion to consider additional information that the business can provide to establish that they have been significantly affected by the impacts of the Coronavirus.’

I’m going to apply and my income is highly variable. I can’t even be certain I would have gotten any work through this period, but clients I was speaking to about work starting in April or May have emailed me to say it’s definitely not happening because of knock on effects caused by the virus.

If in doubt, apply for it. Register your interest at the ATO website. I’d provide a link, but of course it’s down right now.
Cheers for that. Pretty much my summation as well.

Quick question.

How long do you envision this way of life for?

My view: I say 6 months. Forget all sport this winter. The virus whilst contained is here. People have improved behaviours but there are still some crazies out there.

Interested in your thoughts.
Quick answer.

Forever. Well at least it will never be the same again.

Other option is the big players demolish the capitalist system and restructure governments and we end up with progressive countries seeking change and then the rest that desperately try to go back to what we had (fiscal control)

Forever is a long time isn’t it?

Correct. Trying to prove that 30% when your income fluctuates from month to month is the grey area. Point being, why is the government paying more for unemployed and casual workers than they already receive ? Georgie may be able to enlighten us ?

Two reasons that I can think of - firstly, paying employees more than normal will help offset those who are suddenly getting less than normal and therefore provide some help to the economy.

Secondly, it will be easier to administer a set amount like $1,500 when they're dishing out the jam.

Interesting. I have 3 casual workers who have been with me for over 5 years. Apart from Easter we are extremely quiet and they earn between $300- $500 a week and much less when it is quiet. This suits their lifestyle. With the jobkeeper payment I have put in place for them, they are earning $1500 a fortnight, way more than they would working for me. I know lots of people in the same situation. Weird . However, because my work has dried up 99-100 percent, I have to go on job seeker payment, which is far less. Like I said, weird. All these new policies materialised basically overnight. Normally takes years to get through parliament. Almost like they were ready to implement these policies , with no opposition from the opposition . Anyone heard anything from Albo ? Mods, feel free to chuck this in with the lizards . Just weird eh.
The 18.7 billion dollar stimulus package in under 48 hours was my favourite.
We had less than 200 cases but clearly they knew shutdowns were coming.

My wife is from new York. Her family and friends are all there, very tough for her right now. There government recently sent out that us citizens should come home now a they won't be able to get back home and the government won't help

Yes. Like all things they never go back to the good old days.
Footys a good example. Anyone who reckons its better now than 30 years back is either in the industry or lying.
After this our social freedoms will likely never been the same.

Certainly easier to dish out a certain amount, ( couldn't possibly assess every individual case ) but there is no pay back no nothing. Where is the money coming from ? Incredible times indeed.

4 more deaths in NSW and +87 cases.

the deaths are a given and a lot of cases that have been diagnosed will potentially end up as deaths. but it is extremely encouraging that NSW is in double digits now, those triple figures were not doing them any favours. still a long way to go

hopefully we get some zeros soon

Oh forgot to add -1 in ICU 👍🏽👍🏽

Not really relevant to this thread but we should consider making that street pedestrian-only. From the Brass Monkey to the Northbridge Piaza - no cars!
Or just bomb the whole place

There's no payback because there's no point giving people a bunch of money to get through this and then force them to pay it back just as the economy gets going again. The government want people to have money to spend at the end of this because otherwise the economic fallout will be even worse.
We'll likely end up with a levy to pay it back through taxes at some point.

Good to see rates going doing but I don't it's a reason to celebrate until testing criteria has been expanded.

Good that WA has begun that early in the week. Hopefully will see these results come through soon.

The government has already said it will take 20-30 years to recover economically . Just amazed at how generous and how swiftly everything has been implemented .
