If he is banned for the season does his working visa get cancelled and he gets deported?

I’d imagine that’d be decided by whether or not he’s paid.

You can’t throw the book at McKenna just because he got Corona virus. He went to a open house inspection (Grey area in the rules) and visited his foster family (violation of the rules). You think he deserves a more significant punishment than players like Pickett and Spargo who attended a house party just because contracted the virus.

What is likely:

Looks like the whole squad will have to quarantined for 14 days. Only mistake was not doing it straight away as a precautionary measure.

The Pies match can be moved a day or two so it is after the 14 day period.

Dees and Blues will be awarded 4 points each. Dons to forfeit.

This is what SHOULD happen

Wont happen because it then has a flow on effect regarding other teams and the season. You lose the players that were close to him and are at risk via the directions of the WHO of getting Covid 19 while replacing them with players that are available and the season rolls on. It is no one elses fault Conor disrespected the rules from what we know currently and the Demons are already being inconvenienced through no fault of their own and we are next most likely.

Time to take the medicine the AFL prescribe.

Of course the club will it's what the club does best no back bone

yes of course it is a worse offence! If someone actually catches it and gets a game postponed plus whatever other repurcussions it is obviously worse. That's like saying you should get the same penalty for drink-driving but not causing an accident, as a drink-driver who killed someone

Yeah if we can field a side we’ll play no point complaining and would rather play with fewer players over the next two weeks than try and make up 3 games over 12 rounds.

We may not like it but the club has to wear it & the sides we are due to play shortly have every right to be pissed if the reports around McKenna are accurate. We should still be able to field a competitive side so it's not all doom & gloom.

My hope is that McKenna is the only player that misses.

What if the rest of the team comes back negative they should be allowed to play right?

I believe that outcome should dictate punishment.

Good point about the two Melbourne players recently suspended for breaching protocols.

McKenna allegedly also breached protocols, though should the suspension be greater (potentially deregistered) given he actually contracted the virus?

Not sure if the AFL has specifically set out personal punishments for testing positive to coronavirus. Assuming the player survives the virus of course (and Mckenna will no doubt)

the incubation stage can be up to a fortnight. They could test negative on a Friday night and have COVID on the Saturday. Realistically those in contact with McKenna should self quarantine for 2 weeks

Sounds like the half dozen he trained with on Friday have to go into quarantine so we lose most of the backline for the next couple games, not great but better than not being able to field a side at all. Guess we'll know more in the next few days.

'The Herald Sun understands McKenna, who is asymptomatic, had trained in a small group with fellow defenders Adam Saad, Cale Hooker, Michael Hurley, Matt Guelfi, Jordan Ridley and Mason Redman.

The AFL had encouraged clubs not to stack their training groups with players from the same line.

But the AFL will tell Essendon it needs to play next week even if its starting back six are not available while in quarantine.'

The same will happen for the Collingwood game.

So Essendon were told to split their training groups and they had their entire backline training together.

They should definitely play then.
