Don't let the chat linger on my sharing, people.

When does the NBL kick off again, and how confident should we be in the new team minus a couple of great players in Martin and Kay?

And does anyone know anything about that new bloke they signed?

Have we signed a couple? I think Badge had some insight on one of them.

I sort of feel as though if we have Cotton we're a chance, but Martin was so much more than his elite defense, and made those around him walk taller and train harder, so that's a huge void to fill now.

His podcast with Xavier Ellis is a good listen for anyone interested.

Will have to listen. Am a fan of the Wildcats.

Knew about the Mooney signing last week and have been getting more and more keen since finding out.

A few weeks ago I was very down on the roster. Cotton is an MVP calibre, single handedly getting you to the playoffs type talent. Norton the best Aussie in the league in my opinion, certainly the best guard. Fierce backcourt. Love the new import, presumably at the four. Could play the five if you go small.

Hate the Kevin White signing with a passion. Bloke is a good leader reportedly and has been in the league forever, but I cannot see any world where he contributes anything offensively. Nice defender, but a defence only point guard off the bench needs the defence to be elite to work for me. That’s a worry, but also the starting guards are so good that White is there to give them a breather.

Blanchfield - fine. In the old NBL it’d be underwhelming, but in 2020 he’s a pretty decent contributor to add. The percentage talent drop across the league is stark.

Comparing the roster this year to last year is grim, but also the Cats don’t need to beat the 2019 Cats, they need to beat the 2020 NBL opponents who all are dealing with the same salary reductions and import restrictions that are new this year.

Three imports down to two quickly drops the quality, as everybody has to step up one level of importance on the list.

Overall my gut feel is that they’ll be very good still, but I have my concerns about the lack of athleticism on the bench and a bit of a too much work left to too few approach. The biggest plus is Cotton is well on his way to getting permanent residency, meaning he’s no longer an import but rather counts as an Aussie, meaning we could see a Norton/Bryce/import wing/Mooney/Majok lineup before the season ends.

If we could bring in another import, wouldn’t it just be Big Plums?

Oooof. That's some VFL level book cooking and I love it!

Maybe? Depends when it happens. If it happens this month, why not? If it happens in January, would Plumlee have signed elsewhere by then?

Doesn’t need the cash, he came to Perth for his partner and the lifestyle. Would he want to stick around for the prospect of maybe getting another late season run, or is he the type of bloke to want to go travel somewhere. Even in the Covid landscape, there’s basketball to be played in a lot of countries, and he’s doing it for the journey not the cash nowadays.

If they could get him and run a Norton/Cotton/Steindl/Mooney/Plumlee lineup - get ****ed NBL, it’s over.

It’s happened forever in the NBL. Some seriously dodgy dealings to try and grow the league/move the success around rather than having it constantly be at the Wildcats.

Sydney last year were basically a Boomers team with four imports plus a permanent resident ex import. NBL foot the bill for Illawarra to get a potential #1 NBA draft pick there for the publicity. Book cooking is rife, this one at least requires you to put four or five years of support into one player, rather than just put your hand out to the league and say please can we have another import for free like some clubs have done.

Do you think Steindl takes the starting spot over Blanchfield? I would’ve thought Blanche had the nod for that spot, but he’s getting on a bit I guess.

I think Blanchfield would start now. In a hypothetical world where they have Mooney and Plumlee on the floor together, they’d need as much deep shooting as they could get cause those two aren’t doing anything outside the paint.

Steindl is a far far better shooter. He also works off the ball really well, not having to create any but just stay open and knock them down. Would also free Blanchfield up to be a bit of an option off the bench.

It’s one of those where your best starting five isn’t your “best” five but the best fit.

Anyone on here playing Fall Guys? I’ve just come up with a look I call “Andrew Gaff”.
