Nah, everything emanating from the club suggests we're fully committed to the rebuild now so I seriously doubt that, same with Keath and Greenwood last year, accept our terms re contract term or look elsewhere.
Yes, thus they aren't offering Hartigan his desired 2 year deal.

But they are offering him one because the number of players, out of the current best 22, who will be looking to leave next year will be immense. IN: Caldwell, Hately
OUT: GWS pick (8-12), Atkins

Please and thank you.
Cant beleive someone put “thumbs down” to this..

If this was possible...

id personally drive down to sydney from the goldy.. pick up hately and Caldwell.. drive to adelaide, drop them at west lakes.. then go and get atkins drive back up to sydney on the way back to the goldy and dump him somewhere in western sydney..

I'd sooner use the pick. I'm not a huge fan of either

Roo has gone with rumours about other clubs in the past since being involved as a Director and the media didn’t give a fu**. This is only a story because he mentioned a big name player from the state rivals. Would be stupid to offer a big contract to a 30 year old, injury prone key forward who has never topped 50 goals in a season. He’s already showing signs of slowing down as the season has worn on, I find it very unlikely Dixon ever gets through a full 22 rounds.
Yes , But we are Hoping he gets thru to the end of the year un injured and performs well, forcing Port into a 3-4 year deal at good money taking up any advantage they get from Gray.

I dont think it works like that.

Guessing,

Brad - Band one compensation, pick 2

Atkins - Band four or five which for us is about the same pick 38/39 (I'm still holding out hope for a band three pick around 21, although it's an outside chance)

Hartigan - no compensation (would be great to get band five and pick 39 for him but not happening).

I think you only get 1 compensation pick based on the total net movement of free agents in/out of your club, don't you? So if Brad falls into band 2 just outside band 1 then losing Atkins might be enough to nudge the pick up into band 1. But if Brad is already band 1 then that's already as good as it gets, and we basically get nothing for Atkins. We don't get the band 1 for Brad AND another pick for Atkins, unless I've misunderstood the rules.

Trade would be better than the Pick, Also if GWS improve Luke Edwards could be around that mark and we may lose the Pick on what would have been a Free hit.
Any mail out at Central Districts whether Darwin lad Brodie Lake who has recently shifted down to play with the Bulldogs is going to be nominated by GCS or if he intends to go into the open draft, very seriously talented kid.

Are you suggesting Luke is in serious contention for a 1st round pick? I'm not seeing it.

Shit I'd jump at it both players would likely go inside this year's top 10. I'd be all over it like a rash not that it's likely of course, we'd be big winners there.

If it was possible, it is a no brainer for us. Two young kids with talent out of one pick? Yes please.

Now is it possible? In reality we are clear winners out of the deal. However, Hately is going to be stuck behind a stacked midfield and Green. Caldwell, likewise is stuck behind a stacked midfield and outside runners.

GWS might look at it and say we don't really have room for either in their preferred position. Yes they can both play other fill in roles, but what good is that?
Then GWS might look at their draft and see that they have nothing until pick 27 (I think it is). So adding a top 10 pick who might actually fill a need, could be preferable to two talented players that don't.
Add in Atkins (or even Hartigan?) to fill some experience and it just might be attractive enough. Could add some later draft pick swaps to even out a little.

GWS could do worse.

In theory, it's one pick regardless of how many players you lose. In practice, they announce the compensation pick as soon as a player signs with their new club, and that pick can be traded immediately. How they could retrospectively change a pick which has already been traded is entirely beyond me.

Then again, the AFL did turn pick 4 into pick 2 after we'd traded it, in the Carey deal, so anything is possible...

Unfortanlty I have not been able to go to the local footbal for a while, covid reasons both myself and wife are in one of the highly vanable groups and been strongly advised to say home,
Few Mates have mention him in Passing as being a Footballer And for them that a high compliment. will see if I can find out if he GCS bound.

So say in an alternate world we had 5 x Brad Crouches (we're still coached by Ayres) and they all left via free agency. We just get the 1 first rounder?

Don't forget to quarantine when you are coming into Adelaide with Jackson and Jye!

Well his management team are Adelaide based as well as having an agency in Melbourne, Gary Winter formerly had links with the Crows is a Director of the company.
Winter was chair of the ethical committee before he resigned after making a mishap in court.

You obviously know this draft talent better than I do. However, I wouldn't want to give more than a pick in 20s for either at this stage and I'm not a fan of paying a high price for two prospects bundled. As you say it won't happen anyways and my opinion is actually meaningless.

Either player may make me look silly in the coming years. Just reckon that gws pick will be situated nicely to grab a slider or trade on draft night to get another pick in next year's draft. A club could bite if they really rate some who is surprisingly on the board still. Liam Stocker trade style

Like who?

Wouldnt say large number.
Atkins would be one. Brad Crouch.
Wouldnt be surprised to see M.Crouch, Laird, Smith, Seedsman, Kelly, Lynch ask for a trade chasing a premiership or opportunity though given the club may have said they face being in the 2s next year (Seedsman, Kelly).
If list management let that much experience walk out the door you ain't seen nothing yet as to how uncompetitive we would become.

They'll choose working for a living over earning $200k kicking a footy?

Every player that has a choice will choose to go to a club that can win a flag. Every other player will go to a club that is willing to pay them to play a game.
