Sydney Uni are not going to fund a team in the VFL, they will simply go back to playing in whatever ends up as the peak level of local football in Sydney/NSW. That isn't a high enough level for our reserves to be playing.

Maybe we shall see. They wouldn’t be fully funding it themselves in any case (if we were involved) so it probably wouldn’t become much more expensive overall than their current NEAFL operation having to travel to Canberra, Brisbane, Gold Coast and occasionally NT.

Also a great selling point to their students to study, play football with them amongst AFL listed players and still give themselves a chance of being drafted at a mature age.

You and i are agreeing too much !Too be fair to Mase , he's always pushed Sydney footy . For costs sake and im biased Swans/Port is still a great fit. Good crowds will go as well. Watch Port and then walk to the Docklands to watch us smash the enemy.

I just think it’s a better overall fit for us. With Port, they wouldn’t be playing in Sydney you’d think so our squads would constantly be separated. We’d likely have less control over how our players are used and subsequently developed.

I think this league is a great concept and a much better opportunity for us than the create NEAFL without doubt but it’s less about Sydney football for me and more about what would be the ideal for the Sydney Swans which in my view is (not based on practicality): stand alone>Sydney uni (or similar)>affiliate club (port)>spreading the players around

Given we’d have potentially to contract state players to make up squad numbers, Sydney uni (should they field a team) would make more sense than stand alone.

Richmond are very unlikeable this year. Vlastuin and Grimes are both challening their staging fines.

They have both staged for frees in the past so it's not out of the ordinary for them to do it again. I don't think they're cheats or anything, plenty of players do it including Swans. But suck it up (like we and Papley did) and cop your punishment on the chin.

Sydney Uni have basically said they want in

Our commitment to providing the opportunity to play in the highest level of competition to our players will remain as we continue to work through and pursue options for 2021.”

So Grimes and Vlaustin both get off the diving charges. I don't know whether I am more frustrated at the fact Grimes got off a clear dive that cannot be justified or the fact that once again our club just rolled over on the Papley one once again accepting the bullshit from the AFL.

The second one for sure. Why we didn't challenge is a joke

But Papley did dive and rightfully got punished for it. As such, I would think the Swans did the right thing in accepting the punishment in that case. The fact that Grimes somehow got away with his dive doesn’t negate that.

Wish we didn’t just bow down and take it like we always do at the MRP

Richmond already have probly the best depth in the league. If Rance is truly returning they are a tough finals prospect.

(though they won't get a chance at playing 10+ games in a row at MCG as a lead into finals as they did last year)

Agree.. Grimes could have saved some of his credibility but by challenging he's still trying to tell everyone what we saw wasn't a dive.

I'd rather anyone than them win, I've had enough of them

Interesting discussion by Chris Doerre/Knightmare of the stats (marks, brownlow votes, success of the team ..) for Matthew Richardson aged 33 and Nick Riewoldt when they moved from forward line to wing position late in their careers.
Concludes Tim English would be of more value for Footscray on the wing
